I’m not sure which is worse. That someone gave a real pistol to a child wearing an army uniform in Gaza… or that the child is holding up a loaded gun with his finger on the trigger in the middle of a crowd.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat caused a minor storm yesterday when he was spotted in the Beit Hanina neighborhood, next to Shuafat, armed with what appeared to Israel’s Channel 1 as a mini-assault rifle, which the reporter misidentified as a variation of the Galil. The Arabs have been violently rioting in Beit Hanina and Shuafat.
Channel 1 was very concerned that the mayor was walking around Jerusalem without a proper license for the weapon. It’s still difficult for the average Jerusalem resident (and Israeli) to get a gun license.
In fact, Barkat, who earlier this year caught a terrorist mid-attack in Jerusalem has a proper license for a .40 caliber Glock pistol (personally, I recommend the CZ P-07, but to each their own). He was using it with a RONI carbine conversion kit, which allows quick conversion of a handgun into a carbine rifle (it’s very cool). The conversion kit increases shooter accuracy.
The mayor’s office released a photo of the gun in the RONI, and the mayor’s gun license.
The mayor should know, his gun license expires at the end of the month. It’s renewal time.
The Channel 1 report:
An Arab terrorist tried to steal a policeman’s gun in Kiryat Arba on Thursday evening, according to 0404 News.
The policeman shot the terrorist in the leg. The terrorist was then arrested and brought in for investigation.
A man reported that he lost his gun in the Rami Levy supermarket in Gush Etzion.
The gun was apparently lifted from his holster without his being aware of it.
Update: The gun, initially thought to have been stolen, was inadvertently left at home before the man left for the store.
A Nevada middle school student shot and killed one person, critically wounded two male students and then committed suicide in a Sparks City, Nevada middle school after classes started Monday morning, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
A 13-year-old eyewitness said he was shot after telling the student to put the gun down after he aimed at his teacher. It was not known if the teacher or a student had been killed.
Children were evacuated from the middle school to a nearby elementary school after an initial lockdown.
Noam Glick (Noam bat Michal), the 9 year old girl shot in the Psagot terror attack on Saturday night, is currently listed in an improved light to medium condition following her surgery at Sha’arei Tzedek hospital.
Doctors were initially unsure if she was stabbed or shot based on her wounds. But with the discovery of the improvised gun that appears to have been used to shoot her in the shoulder/neck and through the back, it is clear why the weapon type was not immediately clear.
At one point, residents of the town reported that the terrorist was captured, but the IDF is currently stating that the terrorist escaped into a nearby village.
On Monday, the IDF cleared for publication that on Sunday night IDF forces arrested an Arab terrorist, right after he shot at the gate of Kibbutz Migdal Oz, in Gush Etzion.
IDF saw the terrorist shoot at the south gate with an improvised gun, and began a 10 minute chase, which resulted in his capture.
Over the past few weeks, there has been an increase in Palestinian terror attacks in Gush Etzion, including shooting at buses, roadside bombs, firebombs, and of course stone throwing. Kibbutz Migdal Oz has been a particularly favorite target of theirs.
It is not known at this time, if the terrorist is linked to other shootings in Gush Etzion.
