An envelope containing checks worth more than half a billion dollars was found by a man praying at the Western Wall on Wednesday.
The envelope was leaning against the Wall, where Jews traditionally leave notes in the crack of the stones.
The envelope contained 507 checks from around the world – each worth more than a million dollars. Each was signed but without a recipient’s name.
The man who found the checks told the Jerusalem Post he had come to the wall to pray for financial security. Still, he turned the checks over to the Jerusalem police, who have opened an investigation into the checks and their authenticity.
The Rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinowitzy, told the Post many of the checks were Nigerian.
