But for the person who lacks that self-initiative, the verse emphasizes the importance of helping by stating, “I am God.” It is as if God is saying, Even if you don’t find it important, I find it important. And this isn’t simply a nice piece of advice, one to follow when one has the time or the motivation: It is a mitzvah.
