At least two people were injured and six others suffered shock and trauma on Wednesday evening when Gaza terrorists launched a rocket attack on southern Israel.
Eight rockets were fired at southern Israel, according to the Hebrew-language 0404 military website, which reported that four of the projectiles landed in Sderot. Two were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.
Israel Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld added that sappers were at the scene.
A number of homes and vehicles were struck in the barrage, including a house where outside gas balloons were struck and exploded, igniting a fire at the home.
“A 23-year-old man is being treated for shrapnel wounds to his right foot,” said Barzilai Medical Center spokesperson Ayelet Kedar, “in addition to a second male victim, age 42, who arrived in shock. Six others are being treated for stress-related trauma, and two pregnant women who have begun labor as a result of the attack.”
Members of United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit treated numerous people at four different locations around the city for emotional and psychological shock following the attack and resulting Code Red incoming rocket alert sirens.
Israeli civilian engineers were attacked earlier in the evening by Arab terrorists who opened fire as they were working on the security barrier along the border with norther Gaza.
An IDF tank shelled a Hamas terrorist position in Gaza in response to the attack, which damaged engineering equipment but caused no physical injuries.
Several hours prior, Israeli soldiers spotted Hamas operatives evacuating bases and outposts, leading to a decision to close roads adjacent to the border due to a concern that a cross-border could be imminent.
