Crown Heights Jews Remember: Prayers for Yankel Rosenbaum, z’l, Hope for Peace

Friday, August 19th, 2016

Exactly 25 years after a young Australian Chabad-Lubavitch rabbinic student was stabbed to death on a Brooklyn street for the crime of being Jewish, his brother, Professor Norman Rosenbaum returns to the site to recite prayers marking the attack.

Rosenbaum is to attend private memorial prayers at the scene of the attack on his brother, Yankel Rosenbaum, at 10 am Friday (Aug. 19) at Brooklyn Avenue and President Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Earlier this week the professor reunited with Carmel Cato ahead of the event to denounce violence of all forms, and to discuss healing between the two communities.

Cato’s son Gavin, 7, was struck and killed in 1991 while fixing his bike, by a car driven by a Jewish man that careened on to the sidewalk after being hit by a bus. His cousin Angela, also 7, was injured but survived.

The accident sparked three days of rioting in Crown Heights, between August 19-21. In less than an hour, mobs roamed through the streets, egged on by screaming anti-Semites who coined the battle cry, ‘No Justice, No Peace.’

Yankel Rosenbaum was the first casualty; an Italian man who was mistaken because he “looked like a Jew” was hauled out of his car next and beaten within an inch of his life. A bearded family man was chased down the street and into his apartment building, up the stairs and trapped against a wall, where he too was beaten by a mob, because he was a Jew. Gangs roamed the streets of Crown Heights for three days, until finally police were allowed to rein in the chaos.

But those who lived in the neighborhood have never forgotten the rage and fear that gripped the streets. Leaders of every community in the neighborhood were summoned to the office of then-Borough President Howard Golden to form what later became the Crown Heights Coalition, led by Rabbi Shea Hecht and Dr. Edison O. Jackson. The group spent 10 years reaching out to all members of all communities in the neighborhood, sharing each others’ culture codes and building bridges where lines of communication didn’t exist.

The effort paid off with increased funding for community projects and a new look for the neighborhood, community leaders more committed to mutual efforts where city hall is concerned and better cooperation with the NYPD.

“Things aren’t perfect,” said Chana L., a Jewish Crown Heights resident who spoke with JewishPress.com late Thursday night, “but the situation is better than it was. Our hope is to build on that and keep improving from there.”

On the Jerusalem Pogroms

Wednesday, September 30th, 2015

Israel is celebrating the Succot holiday and I wish I could share happy pictures and videos from Israel but there are pogroms happening in Jerusalem and you probably have not heard a thing from your news channels.

Over the past month Muslims have been attacking Jews throughout Jerusalem and have been showing their real anti-semitic face.

A Jewish man who was returning from his Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) dinner was stoned to death by Muslim terrorists, Jewish men and women visiting the Old City of Jerusalem  are attacked with stones and molotov cocktail bottles and Jews whose only wish is to pray on the Temple Mount are harassed, kicked, stoned and assaulted by Muslim terrorists.

Let’s stop beating around the bush and call what the Muslims are carrying out in Jerusalem by its real name; a full fledge anti-semitic pogrom against Jews!

It started with Muslim men, women and children screaming their heads off at Jewish worshippers and threatening them.

There were those who said, ‘no big deal’ all they are doing is screaming and there are those who even had the audacity to defend the Muslim behavior as freedom of speech.

The Muslim crowd had no pity on anyone and Jewish women and children were their next targets. The screaming turned to spitting and specific threats. Notice the Jews who were attacked in the video below were not holding any Israeli flags! In fact, they were Ultra Orthodox Jews who are not Zionist! They were on the Temple Mount simply to pray. This is exactly what anti semitism looks like for those of you who still have a hard time identifying the behavior of the Muslims on the Temple Mount!

People were still excusing the fanatic Islamic anti-semitic behavior and claiming it was just the radicals. Then then Muslim officers on the Temple Mount attacked Jews who were looking to just take a drink from a fountain on the Temple Mount. It is simply unreal how there are those around the world who claim Israel is an apartheid and then excuse this blatant demonstration of Islamic racism and anti-semitism.

In case any of you are still under the impression that these Muslim terrorists are just a fringe sect, watch a Muslim ISRAELI Parliament member assault Jews who came to pray on the Temple Mount.

This Arab, Muslim Israeli parliament member who has more freedoms and rights in Israel than he would in any Islamic regime assaults Jewish worshippers telling them to go to hell and that they have no right to pray on the Temple Mount!

Of course when the IDF finally reacted to these acts of terror, the world press pointed a finger at Israel! I am so sick and tired of the blatant anti-semitic behavior of the world! It happens every time and nothing ever changes! Israel is attacked and there is press silence, Israel responds and then the entire world gets up on their hind legs to blame the Jewish State for defending itself and winning!

The videos above were horrific to watch but there were those who excused the terrorist’s behavior with the excuse that Jews praying on the Temple Mount (the holiest place on Earth for Jews) is a provocation. If the videos above made you upset, the two that you are about to watch will infuriate you. Unlike the videos above that took place on the Temple Mount, the videos below took place in Jerusalem. The Jews who were attacked below were not walking to pray on the Temple Mount but were walking to pray at the Western Wall! Please do not tell me that the hatred aimed towards Israel is not anti-semitic. Watch the videos below and explain what settlements, occupation or any other of the other justifications used by the Arabs to murder Jews have anything to do with the attack below!

Watch this Jews get attacked as he walks to the Western Wall wearing his prayer shawl.

Don’t think for a second these Muslim terrorists are a branch of Hamas. They are the fruit of the official PA headed by none other than Abu Mazen himself who last week commented on the current attacks that are taking place in Jerusalem. Israel’s “peace” partner did not condemn the fascist behavior of Muslim terrorists but rather justified them.

Taken from the Palestinian Media Watch website Abbas: We won’t allow Jews’ “filthy feet” “We bless every drop of blood that has been spilled for Jerusalem… blood spilled for Allah… Every Martyr will reach Paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded by Allah” PA: Jews are filth, they desecrate and defile Jerusalem When anti Israel activists use fake quotes from Israeli leaders I always demand they bring their source and video of the quote they are faking. My demand is usually met  with four letter words instead of facts, so here is the video of the man the world calls a “peace partner”

Yes! He did say pure Muslim blood and yes he also claimed Churches are theirs as well.

JUST in case you thought these attacks were random, watch and listen to Abu Mazen explain his solution to the Jews who seek to pray at the holiest place in the world for the Jewish religion.

The audacity of these Muslims knows no boundaries at all. In one case, a Muslim woman assaulted a Jewish man and the man was just not going to take it so he reacted.

Here is the picture of a Jewish man who was covered as assaulting an innocent Muslim woman in Jerusalem.

He sure looks like a crazy Jewish man attacking a very innocent Muslim woman, doesn’t it? Now take a closer look at what this woman is holding in her hand!

So what really happened? Watch the actual video below and see just how far Islamic Taqiyya goes!

Jerusalem is under attack and the press is silent!

Listen To Sarah

First published: Jewish Business News.

I’m writing this about half an hour after having heard the news of the murder of at least four Jews who were praying in a synagogue in a Haredi neighborhood in West Jerusalem. If anyone has had any delusions about this not being a religious war, and anything but a religious war, one need only connect the images that are emerging from this morning’s massacre of four Jewish men in the middle of their morning prayer to the images of Jews massacred in Hebron, in 1929.

In both instances, and in so many others, many of them in just the past few weeks, it was always an enraged, maddened Arab attacker, having been stuffed to the gills with hate by his environment—real and virtual—who exited civilization to become the avenging angel of whatever god he imagined was blessing this horror.

Being a pragmatic person, I, like so many of you, immediately started thinking of, well, what to do next. One really has to be nearly as mad as this morning’s two grocery workers-turned murdering butchers, to suggest they went on their murder spree to advance the cause of independence for their downtrodden Palestinian brothers and sisters. Clearly, they were out to kill as many Jews as they could before some policeman managed to shoot them dead. They were driven by religious hatred, determined to strike at the conquering enemy, wherever they could find him.

They must have talked about it beforehand. Schemed just how to acquire a gun, collect and hide butcher knives, coordinate their attack so as to inflict maximum damage before the unavoidable end. They were seeking only one thing: kill as many Jews as they could, while they still could. They had no concern for their own well being or even their lives. They sought death, willingly, lovingly.

Over the past two decades, the imaginations of a billion and a half Muslims have been ignited by a call to arms the likes of which they had not experienced since the crusades. With 9/11, followed by the emergence of Muslim zeal everywhere on the planet, and recently with the undeniable rise of the new caliphate in Syria and Iraq, Muslims young and old are awash in orgiastic fantasies of the rebirth of their old glory.

This is not a conspiracy, nor is this the actual wish of most Muslims in the world, it’s a fantasy. And the longer Western countries, including Israel, continue to respond to events around us as if they were localized emergencies, to be solved, managed, contained – the fantasy will grow more powerful.

Already we hear the president of Egypt accusing the Turkish secret service of supporting Muslim terrorists. And we’ve known for years of Pakistani secret service support for the Taliban and, by extension, Al Qaeda. The secret services of Muslim countries represent the vanguards of these nations. They’re not only living the fantasy in their everyday lives, they also know how far it can be taken if only they could master whole countries and their weapons.

Left unchecked, this Muslim fantasy will only fester and grow beyond anything our leaders in the west can imagine. I suspect that every erupted murder episode like this morning’s attack on Jews in prayer represents hundreds, perhaps thousands of others, yet unquenched.

Unfortunately, the only way to end this fantasy before it becomes so big it will envelope whole countries, is to crush it.

Which brings me to our beautiful matriarch, Sarah.

Sarah saw through Ishmael, the offspring of her slave girl Hagar and her husband, Abraham. He was up to no good, either plotting to rape her son Isaac or kill him, depending on which interpreter you prefer.

At another point, an angel of God told Hagar exactly who her son, Ishmael, father of all the Arabs was: “This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives.” (Gen, 16:12)

Biblical prophesies can be so annoying when they come true right in front of your eyes.

Sarah was no fool. She was, actually, the greatest prophet of her time. So she ordered her husband, Abraham, to get rid of the kid and his mother. Chase them out, she told him, in no uncertain terms.

She had no delusions about Ishmael.

This was the hardest moment in Abraham’s life. He just couldn’t being himself to do something this cruel. He resisted. He wouldn’t do it.

And so, according to our biblical account, God intervened:

God told Abraham, “Do not be upset over the boy and your maid. Do whatever Sarah tells you.” (Gen. 21:12)

And so Abraham, finally, obeyed his wife. There was no discussion of rehabilitation for the boy, no talk of cultural assimilation. He had to go.

I have no idea what will happen next in our war-torn Middle East and in the rest of the world. I suspect Sarah’s command still seems too harsh to most of us, myself included. It’s one thing to chase a woman and her son out into the desert, but what do you do with millions of Muslims? How do you recover from something like that? It’s one mad fantasy touching on another, evoking a third.

But if you’d like to know what our great grandmother Sarah, if she woke up today, would have told us, I can assure you, she would have said: “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.” (Ge. 12:10)

Jewish Man Escapes Taibe Lynch, Car Torched [video]

Monday, November 10th, 2014

A Jewish man, identified as Moshe, visiting friends in the Israeli-Arab town of Taibe escaped with his life, but not his car.

Around twenty masked Arab men from the town surrounded his car and attacked him as he was leaving.

One decent Taibe Arab managed to extricate the Jewish man from the “Allahu Achbar” yelling lynch mob before it was too late, and drove Moshe away in his car.

Without a human target to kill, the rabid Islamic mob torched the man’s car instead.

MDA ambulances were also damaged by Taibe Arabs.

As a result of this pogrom, police prohibited all Jewish traffic on Road 444, north of Kochav Yair (the town where Ehud Barak used to live).

MK Dr. Ahmed Tibi lives in Taibe.

Video from the entrance to Taibe:

In other locations, including Jerusalem, the Galilee, as well as Judea and the Shomron, Arabs attacked Jewish drivers with stones and firebombs.

A woman travelling near Maaleh Shomron with her 5 children came under attack by firebomb and stone throwing Arabs on Sunday. Everyone is safe, but the car suffered damage.

In Jerusalem, a man was lightly injured when Arab stone throwers hit him with stones while he was driving near Neve Yaakov. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

Excellent Work Plan

Friday, August 23rd, 2013

Some Palestinian speaker detailing his view on negotiations over “Palestine,” and meanwhile offers a very good and reliable plan for Israel to deal with his kind. Just change the name to “Israel” and act accordingly, the situation would be resolved in under a day.

As a good friend of mine pit it, once you place yourself outside the law, you cannot continue to receive protection from the same law. This is a superb example of this axiom.

Last night, after someone in Lebanon shot four Katyusha rockets at Naharia, I expected a couple of IAF wings to get over to South Lebanon and return a large swath of land to the 12th century. Instead, we saw a proportionate response, an attack on some target south of Beirut which killed no one and didn’t even damage property.

We need to appoint this Palestinian man as our prime minister and follow whatever he says – except apply it to the enemy. Trust me, we will be immeasurably successful.

Oh – and watch the two Neturei Karta guys with the anti-Zionist sign. Do they recognize a pogrom in the making? I wonder.

Faces of Israel: Mazal Elijah, Immigrant from Iraq

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

Mazal Elijah and her family had a very difficult life. As members of the Baghdad Jewish community, Mazal’s mother endured much suffering during what is known as the “Farhud Pogrom” or just “Farhud” in Baghdad, June 1941. Within 24 hours of the start of the pogrom, 250 people died. Mazal claimed that some Arabs were decent and tried to save Jews from the Farhud, yet other Arabs behaved horribly and sought to do the same to the Jews of Iraq as Hitler did to the Jews in Europe, yet they were fortunately stopped by the British. Thus, upon getting married around that period of time, her husband was drafted into the army, thus forcing her to move in with her parents so that she wouldn’t get killed. Eventually, he managed to escape from the army, yet for a while things were very uncertain.

After the Farhud, there was a period of calm, yet right before Israel became a state, things became unbearable for the Jewish community in Iraq. “It was impossible for children to play outside for there was a fear that the children would be kidnapped,” Mazal conveyed. “The Arabs hit Jews and there was no police to report it to for the police were corrupted. You could not report abuse to the police.” In Iraq, there were no social rights for Jews. According to Mazal, “All of the Arabs were against the Jews. Jews became like trash.”

Mazal

Yet as if all of this were not bad enough, Mazal asserted that whenever there were weddings or bar mitzvahs in Iraq, one had to bribe the Iraqi Police in order to ensure the event went ahead peacefully. Otherwise, Arabs would show up and start abusing Jews at the event. Mazal asserted that during this period of time, right around Israel’s independence, continuous massacres against Jews occurred in Iraq and during these massacres, Arabs broke into Jews homes, stole whatever they wanted, and then flooded the homes, so that Jews would not be able to live in them anymore. Furthermore, Iraqi Jewish women traditionally would make preserved foods so that certain types of vegetables would be available in the winter months. The Arab thieves would eat up all of the preserves that the Iraqi Jewish women worked very hard to prepare, thus leaving Iraqi Jewish families with nothing.

The situation was especially dire for Iraqi Jewish women. Mazal asserted that rapes occurred all of the time and that if an Arab barged into your home and demanded to marry your daughter, it was impossible to refuse him. Iraqi Jewish women were forced to wear the face veil for their own protection. Pretty Iraqi Jewish girls were hidden by their families, so that Arabs would not demand to marry them. Women could not leave the home without an escort and they weren’t allowed to work, except to sew, knit or do beauty jobs for women. It was not even possible for Iraqi Jewish women to go out for a movie.

Yet as if that were not bad enough, sanitary conditions were horrible, as was the medical care. As a result, Mazal’s mother lost 14 children in Iraq due to these atrocious health conditions. She only managed to bring her four living children to Israel. Yet, even the children who lived didn’t have an easy life. Children’s dolls and games didn’t exist in Iraq during that period of time.

Mazal2

However, despite all of these atrocious living conditions, Mazal’s family hesitated to leave because they had many belongings that they didn’t want to part with. For this reason, they didn’t cross the border with Iran and from there go to Israel illegally, like other Iraqi Jewish families did. In the end, they left only when they were expelled from the country. Mazal and her family arrived in Israel without any clothes or food. The Israeli authorities provided them with food, yet her family struggled to eat it because the food given to them seemed too foreign and strange. For example, European-style tea was not dark enough for Iraqi Jews and thus originally they thought it was urine, implying undrinkable. Hot dogs seemed bizarre and not kosher as well.

Yet food was not the only problem. For their first three years in Israel, Mazal and her family lived in a tent instead of a house. This meant that for three years Mazal and her family were exposed to atrocious weather conditions. Sometimes the wind would blow the tent over. When her family was finally given a better place to live, it was a hut without a solid foundation. There were also no paved roads around where she grew up. Another child would be born in that hut under those conditions.
