Report: Hamas Terrorist Killed in Tunnel Collapse During ‘Mission’

Monday, October 24th, 2016

A member of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military wing, was killed in Gaza on Monday after an underground tunnel collapsed on him, Ma’an reported. The al-Qassam Brigades released a statement saying one of their fighters, Amir Jaber Abu Tuima from the town of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, died during a “mission” when the tunnel collapsed.

The announcement did not specify the nature of the mission, which was most likely digging a terror tunnel.

On Saturday another al-Qassam terrorist was killed in a tunnel collapse. Ma’an acknowledged that a considerable number of Gaza Arabs have been killed in the “vast tunnel networks that lie below the besieged enclave,” which is dedicated to commercial and military smuggling in the south and future terrorist kidnapping in the north.

Last Saturday morning, the head of the Egyptian army’s Ninth Armored Division was assassinated for his role in destroying tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip by filling them with water.

The smuggling tunnels are used by Hamas as a source of tax revenue and flow of weapons and commercial goods from the Sinai, including food, medicine, and infrastructure materials. The latter are being used mostly for digging military tunnels into Israeli territory.

The Institute for Palestine Studies reported in 2012 that Hamas suffered 160 deaths under collapsing tunnels since 2007. In August 2014, al-Jazeera cited 400 as the updated figure for tunnel collapse casualties.

Ma’an cited a UN report from September suggesting the damage from the three clashes between Hamas and Israel since the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip, including the destruction of local water, sanitation, energy, and medical facilities, together with a slow reconstruction (as Hamas is usurping the building material for building terror tunnels), will render Gaza “uninhabitable” by 2020.

Egypt’s Tunnel Destroying Officer Assassinated

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

The head of the Egyptian army’s Ninth Armored Division Major Adel Ragaai was assassinated on Saturday morning, the army media office told Daily News Egypt on Saturday. Based in Dahshur, Giza, on the west bank of the Nile, the Ninth Armored Division was assigned the mission of destroying tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip by filling them with water.

Major Ragaai was attacked by heavy shooting from anonymous militants in front of his residence in Al-Obour City near Cairo, according to army sources.

Ragaai’s wife, Samia Zein Al-Abdeen, a defense correspondent for the state-owned daily Al-Gomouria, told her newspaper she hurried outside when she heard a burst of gunfire from a private vehicle as it sped down their suburban street.

The group Lewaa Al-Thawra, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, is blamed for the attack. Ragaai’s death is the first political assassination of a military figure since the ousting of Mohamed Morsi from office in 2013.

Over the past three years, the Egyptian military has destroyed more than one thousand smuggling tunnels connecting the Gaza strip with the Sinai peninsula. The tunnels serve both for cross-border commerce and arms smuggling for Hamas.

According to The Medialine, Ragaai oversaw a massive operation to dig a canal parallel to the Rafah border, flooding the frontier with sea water which seeps into the tunnels, preventing their use. Hamas officials in the town of Rafah have complained that Gaza’s limited fresh water aquifer is being rendered undrinkable as a result.

Suspicious Object in Tunnel Near Western Wall [video]

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

Security personnel were summoned to the underground tunnels near the Western Wall at around 9:20 pm Thursday night to examine a hafetz hashud — a suspicious object — that was identified by local citizens.

Bomb squad experts were called to the scene and brought with them the robot, which was deployed to examine the item, which turned out to be a false alarm.

Detonating an explosive of any kind anywhere in that area is extremely risky, both from a human perspective and from a historic and archaeological one. The suspicious package was located right in the tunnels beneath the ancient stones of the retaining wall that supported the Second Holy Temple of Jerusalem.

The Western Wall Plaza was not crowded but there were still several hundred people in the area as the High Holy Days approach.

Bennett Rebukes Netanyahu on Misrepresenting Terror Tunnel Record

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

Education Minister and Habayit Hayehudi Chairman Naftali Bennett on Tuesday morning tweeted a response to the statement by Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu Monday night, that the security cabinet discussed the Gaza terror tunnels before the 2014 Protective Edge Operation. Bennett said Netanyahu should accept responsibility for the ramifications of his decisions, not try to conceal them.

“Any company commander in the army learns his lessons at the end of an exercise, to avoid making future mistakes, and what’s true for an infantry company is doubly true for the political and security leadership of the State of Israel,” Bennett tweeted. “In preparation for the next war, we must learn from the mistakes of the past and not deny them. Drawing real lessons is a sign of strength and self-confidence. He who does not learn from the mistakes of the past is doomed to repeat them,” Bennett concluded.

Netanyahu has been saying in closed sessions that the IDF had been seeking operational solutions to the terror tunnels since 2013, and the security apparatus had dealt with it numerous times. The PM was responding to the harsh attacks on his administration’s conduct of the 2014 Gaza War.

On Sunday, 32 bereaved families of fallen IDF soldiers in Gaza demanded in a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Liberman that a state commission headed by a judge investigate the government’s decision-making process throughout the war.

Bennett stood out during the war weeks as the most stubborn advocate of sending the IDF in to demolish the Hamas terror tunnels, and was behind the popular notion that the Netanyahu security cabinet was unaware of the tunnel threat. But Walla, which in recent years has emerged as Netanyahu’s other favorite media outlet, reported on Tuesday that the cabinet held at least eight debates on the tunnels, and hosted 20 professional discussions with IDF and Intelligence officials to examine ways to locate and demolish the tunnels.

2 Islamic Jihad Terrorists Dead in Work Accident

Monday, July 25th, 2016

Two Islamic Jihad terrorists were killed in a “work accident” Sunday.

The two operatives were apparently working on something in a tunnel beneath the streets of Khan Younis in Gaza.

“Last week they lost another man in a tunnel collapse in the same area,” said security analyst Daniel Nisman, co-founder of the Levantine Group in a post on the Twitter social networking site.

The terrorist group said in its announcement the operatives were carrying out an unspecified “jihad operation” in southern Gaza at the time of the incident.

Numerous tunnel operations take place in Khan Younis, not far from where a Hamas operative taught a group of young women on Sunday how to shoot guns at a human target.

Gaza Terror Tunnel Collapses, Kills 1

Sunday, July 10th, 2016

A terrorist with the Islamic Jihad terror organization in Gaza died after his terror tunnel collapsed on him today, according to Arab sources on Social Media.

Seven other Islamic Jihad members in the tunnel were saved in a rescue operation that took 3 hours.

The dead Gazan man was identified as Ibrahim Al-Masri (28) from Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigade.

According to Israel’s Galei Tzahal radio, the terror tunnel was located near the Erez border crossing, which is at the northern end of Gaza.

This is the first time that it’s been publicized that an Islamic Jihad tunnel collapsed.

As an aside, the last name “al-Masri” indicates that the Gaza man’s family had originally emigrated from Egypt.
