Yet Another Hamas Terror Tunnel Opening in Israel Discovered

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

IDF operations in recent days along and inside the southern Gaza Strip have revealed yet another tunnel, quite spacious, that had been dug by Hamas and leads into Israel, the IDF Spokesperson’s office said in a statement Thursday.

According to the statement, the discovery of the tunnel was the result of extensive, high quality prevention and protection efforts of many different forces led by the IDF Southern Command and the Gaza Division since the end of the 2014 Israel–Gaza war, also known as Operation Protective Edge. The efforts are undertaken on a daily basis to guarantee the peace and safety of Israeli civilians in border communities.

According to the IDF, the tunnel was dug by Hamas in order to carry out terror attacks inside Israel, against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

The process of locating the tunnel was interrupted for two consecutive days by Hamas gunmen who shot at IDF forces in attempt to slow down and frustrate the search effort. The Israeli Air Force last night responded by attacking several Hamas terror targets.

The IDF views the Hamas terror activities as an affront to Israeli sovereignty and a threat against Israeli citizens, and assigns complete responsibility for these violations to Hamas. The IDF plans to proceed with its program of discovering and destroying Hamas tunnels.

Hamas Shoots Mortar Overnight at Tunnel Detection Force

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

Hamas shot yet another mortar at IDF forces working near the border fence in northern Gaza Strip. No one was hurt and there was no damage to equipment.

Later on the same night, an IAF aircraft targeted four Hamas terrorist infrastructure sites in the northern Gaza Strip in response to Hamas sporadic shootings at the IDF forces since Tuesday.

On Wednesday, a Hamas spokesman claimed that Israel had capitulated to the Hamas attacks and removed its heavy equipment and tanks 150 yards away from the border fence.

According to Israeli media, the IDF force is locating and destroying terror tunnels.

Owner of Gaza Smuggling Tunnel on Trial in Israel

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Israel’s Southern District Attorney (Criminal) on Sunday submitted to the Be’er Sheva District Court an indictment against a Hamas terrorist on 18 counts of acts against state security. Among other things, according to the indictment, the accused, Medhat Ben Fawzi Abu Snima, 24, a resident of Gaza, in 2014 joined a partnership that ran a smuggling tunnel from Egypt to the Gaza Strip.

The tunnel is 0.6 miles long, leading from Egyptian Rafah to the Gazan Rafah. The buy-in cost was $7,000. Over the period between early 2014 and the end of 2015, the accused and his partners smuggled through their tunnel military uniforms for the Hamas naval commando unit, as well as weapons which were delivered to merchants in Gaza. The return the accused collected on his investment was $2,000 a month. That success story ended when the Egyptian military flooded the tunnel and demolished it.

According to the indictment, Abu Snima joined Hamas in 2007 and collaborated with other Hamas members to cause harm to IDF soldiers as well as to Israeli civilians. He conducted observations of Israeli military targets near the Gaza border and planted explosives against IDF jeeps in order to cause the death of IDF soldiers.

In 2012, following the end of Operation Pillar of Defense, the accused and others shot rockets at an IDF post and shot mortar shells at the Kerem Shalom crossing. He also participated in Hamas military training as well as in a course to become a professional sniper.

The indictment also contains counts of contacting a foreign agent, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, communicating information to the enemy with the intention of harming state security, illegal military training, membership and activity in an illegal association, and weapons violations.

Smugglers’ Cross-Border Tunnel Discovered in San Diego

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

It’s not only Israel contending with tunnels, although for Israel tunnels pose an existential threat.

For the third time this month, a cross-border tunnel was discovered Wednesday (April 20) leading from Mexico to California. Authorities seized seven tons of marijuana and more than a ton of cocaine.

The tunnel, measuring nearly half a mile, is believed to be the longest ever found in California. It was equipped with a rail system, ventilation, lights and a large elevator, making delivery of the smuggled goods much easier and more efficient. Some tunnels along the U.S.-Mexico border have been discovered with hydraulic lifts and electric rail cards, according to Fox News.

The exit on the U.S. side was about three feet wide. Six people were arrested last Friday in San Diego and charged with constructing tunnels and other drug-related crimes. They were not identified and their affiliation is not known.

There are numerous drug cartels doing “business” throughout Latin America, including a number who carry out transactions with Lebanon’s Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization.

Agents found 1,600 pounds of marijuana inside the tunnel. Another 11,000 pounds of cannabis and 2,242 pounds of cocaine were found in the truck that had been collected from the handy trash bin strategically placed to hide the mouth of the tunnel, as a pickup site for smugglers. In addition, another 1,430 pounds of marijuana were found in the bin.

Another Hamas Tunnel Collapsed in Gaza Strip, 7 Terrorists Missing

Monday, April 18th, 2016

The Hamas tunnel collapse fiasco continued on Monday, as, just following the IDF announcement of discovering and destroying a terror tunnel reaching 90 feet into Israel, there were reports from Gaza of yet another tunnel collapsing, this one on the Egyptian-Gazan border, News 0404 reported. The collapse happened after the Egyptians performed another one of their routine flooding of the area with sea water. Seven Hamas terrorists are missing.

According to News 0404, Hamas officials are convinced Israel has developed new technology to detect the tunnels, and that it feeds the relevant data to the Egyptians.

Forces Found New Hamas Terror Tunnel Reaching Into Israel [video]

Monday, April 18th, 2016

Security personnel have released for publication the fact that a new terrorist tunnel was discovered leading from Gaza well into Israeli territory.

The tunnel, dug after the completion of 2014’s Operation Protective Edge, was identified about a week ago in the area around the southern Israeli Jewish community of Holit.

“The IDF has uncovered and neutralized a Hamas terror tunnel in southern Israel,” the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement Monday morning.

The tunnel extended approximately 150 meters into Israel, emerging between Kerem Shalom and the site from which IDF soldier Gilad Shalim was abducted by Gaza’s ruling Hamas terror group in June 2006, sources said.

“This tunnel, the first to be found since Operation Protective Edge, was built by Hamas in order to infiltrate Israel and execute terror attacks against the people of the southern communities,” IDF Spokesperson Lt. Col. Peter Lerner noted in a sharply worded statement Monday morning. “The IDF will continue its counter terror efforts to uncover and neutralize Hamas’ offensive tunnels.

The tunnel was discovered late last week by IDF soldiers and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) intelligence agents along with engineers who were using specialized technological equipmentk. The forces “uncovered and neutralized an offensive tunnel infiltrating Israel from the Gaza Strip,” Lerner said.

“The ugly truth is that Hamas continues to invest millions of dollars to build tunnels of terror and death,” the spokesman continued.

“The tunnel uncovered in Israel demonstrates once more Hamas’ warped priorities and continued commitment and investment in tools of violence. This tunnel exposes Hamas’ abhorrent intentions to attack the men, women and children of southern Israel.”

Residents of the Jewish communities in the Gaza Belt area have been deeply worried for months, pressuring defense officials to search the area around their homes and communities due to the digging noises they kept hearing under their floors.

IDF Prepares for Gaza Tunnel War in Next Conflict

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

The IDF is preparing its soldiers to contend with terrorists in the next conflict who suddenly pop out from tunnels — anywhere.

Gaza’s Hamas terrorist organization has nearly completed its tunnel network, despite work accidents and “acts of Allah” that cannot be prevented, such as this week’s rain pouring down from the skies, which buries both diggers and the tunnels they dug.

Heavy rains are continuing to pour down on to Israel, a blessing to the land and to the security of the Jews living in the Land as well. The soft sands in Gaza are easy for diggers to tunnel through, although they become a digger’s grave when the tunnels collapse from the weight of the water-logged mud in the rain. Still, Hamas forces its diggers to continue, using stolen concrete to shore up the walls of the tunnels against the damp, while callously leaving its people without homes.

The rebuilt Hamas tunnel infrastructure beneath Gaza is rapidly regrowing itself and possibly extending even deeper into Israel than before, security sources say.

Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committees have been cooperating to dig tunnels that could reach up to 10 kilometers deep into Israel, according to the Middle East Newsline.

But IDF and Shin Bet intelligence agents have been coordinating efforts for some time to foil infiltrations into Israel by Hamas and other terrorists via the tunnels.

During Operation Protective Edge in summer 2014, Israeli defense officials discovered plans to carry out a terror attack in Israel around the time of the High Holy Days that would have killed and or abducted hundreds.

In July 2014, Hamas was preparing a murderous assault on Israeli civilians during the Jewish new year holiday of Rosh Hashanah, Israeli security sources told the Hebrew-language Ma’ariv daily.

Some 200 terrorists were to be dispatched via the tunnels dug under the Gaza border to Israel. They would have emerged to seize hostages from kibbutzim and other Jewish communities, while killing other Israeli civilians.

Thousands of Hamas terrorists meanwhile would have been swarming across Israel wearing IDF uniforms, complicating a military response to the attack.

Reports at the time indicated that Hezbollah terrorists may have planned to join the attack as well, opening a second front in the north. The destruction of the tunnels – Gaza’s “underground terrorist city” – during the 2014 war thwarted the plan.

Over the past six months, Israel’s Home Front Command has held a number of military and civil defense drills aimed at preparing the IDF and civilian population for an upcoming war launched either by Hamas in the south, or by Hezbollah from the north.

IDF troops have been deployed along both fronts for several months, particularly since October, when the current wave of terror began. The 2014 mini-war with Hamas in Gaza resulted from a similar wave of terror, as did all prior operations, including that which morphed into the two-front 2006 Second Lebanon War.
