Lapid Says He Doesn’t Trust the Palestinian Authority

Yesh Atid party chairman Yair Lapid, Israel’s favorite chameleon, declared on Wednesday that he does not trust the Palestinian Authority and would not depend on it to keep Israel safe while having full control of the Jordan Valley.

He took what he said is a centrist view – against annexing Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and against giving away the Jordan Valley to the Palestinian Authority.

He wrote on his Facebook page, “The time has come to separate from the Palestinians. We are not dealing with ‘peace’ but rather with the need to separate in peace….

“We can only depend on ourselves…. The Palestinians have proven time after time they do not deserve to be trusted.”

Kerry is a mad man— The Jordan Valley? Once we do that we are fu**ed.
At that point we are rendered helpless. There are no people in it, so why would we give it to them, we have at least as good a claim on it as they do, and the best part, we are not occupying a people by holding it.

It is also a vital military use for iSrael. It prevents our enemies from establishing a beachhead.

We need the equivalent of the Monroe Doctrine which says there will be no foreign powers not he West bank. No power other than the IDF on the West Bank. Not that the WB will be demilitarized but that the IDF shall remain there.

It appears that even Yair Lapid is getting cold feet about giving else this territory.

While Lapid isn't exactly a strategic genius, he'd have to be a complete idiot to trust the PA. So far, only Livni and Kerry -who have to join to reach a double digit IQ- have been caught trusting Abbas.
