Poll: 45 Percent of Britons Favor Banning Shechitah

By: JTA

About 45 percent of 1,900 Britons polled favored banning Jewish ritual slaughter and 38 percent said they favored banning non-medical circumcision.

In the poll, which was conducted last week by the YouGov polling agency for The Jewish Chronicle of London, 45 percent of respondents backed banning ritual slaughter, or shechitah. Another 28 percent said they were undecided and 27 percent opposed such a ban.

When asked about “male circumcision for religious reasons,” 38 percent supported a ban, 35 percent opposed a ban and 27 percent were undecided, The Jewish Chronicle reported this week.

Among 18-24 year-olds, 41 percent would ban both non-medical circumcision in underage boys and ritual slaughter of animals for food.

  2. Ah yes, times they are achanging and Jews need to give up the uncivilized ritual mutilation of little boys as they did slavery and stoning and, and, and. The fundamental law of the universe – change or become extinct.

  3. Ah yes, but we are not extinct. Circumcision helps prevent many sexually transmitted diseases. In the U.S. it is done almost routinely for health reasons. Besides, uncircumcised members are pretty gross. It sounds like you are an idiot!

  4. Well aren't you a pleasant person.

  5. If we could have had an adult conversation, I would have said that what adult men want to do with their bodies is their business, but cutting off healthy parts of infant's bodies is a felony if the victim is a girl and boys should have the same legal protection from molesters and mutilators.

  6. Brothers & Sisters it is TIME TO GO HOME!

  7. Yechiel Baum says:

with the Britis exporting horsemeat, which is being returned to them and do not like Kosker competition, let them eat their own horsemeat and stop looking into out superior, healthy cooking pots.

  8. ..there is no clear health incentive to perform routine circumcisions.

That's the policy statement of every medical society in the world, including the American Academy of Pediatrics.

  10. Intelligent Jews worldwide should be leading the repudiation of this primitive Bronze Age rite of passage ritual, not resisting it.
