Ivanka Trump Says NYT Distorted Facts of Father’s Treatment of Women [video]

Wednesday, May 18th, 2016

Ivanka Trump accuses the New York Times of distorting the facts about her father’s treatment of women in a story she says is “pretty disturbing, based on the facts as I know them.” Trump’s daughter, an Orthodox Jew, spoke to CBS “This Morning” show host Norah O’Donnell in an interview to be shown Wednesday.

“And obviously, I very much know [the facts], both in the capacity as a daughter and in the capacity as an executive who’s worked alongside of him at this company for over a decade . . . I was bothered by [the story],” Ivanka Trump says.

The New York Times Magazine on Sunday reported interviewing dozens of women who had worked with or for Donald Trump over the past four decades, in real estate, modeling and pageants, women who dated him, interacted with him socially — more than 50 interviews over six weeks. “Their accounts,” the report suggests, “reveal unwelcome romantic advances, unending commentary on the female form, a shrewd reliance on ambitious women, and unsettling workplace conduct.”

Those interactions took place in his offices at Trump Tower, at his homes, at construction sites and backstage at beauty pageants. And even though to him they were probably unimportant moments, the NYT story suggests they left lasting impressions on the women who experienced them.

But the NYT report is not entirely negative, which is often the case with the Republican presidential hopeful. “What emerges from the interviews is a complex, at times contradictory portrait,” it says. “Some women found him gracious and encouraging. He promoted several to the loftiest heights of his company, a daring move for a major real estate developer at the time. … He simultaneously nurtured women’s careers and mocked their physical appearance.”

Shortly after the magazine article had been published, Brewer Lane, one of the central figures being cited, who told of a humiliating episode where Trump displayed her before his guests at a pool party and forced her to put on a bathing suit, said in a Monday interview with Fox & Friends: “The New York Times told us several times that they would make sure my story that I was telling came across, they promised several times that they would do it accurately, they told me several times and my manager several times that it would not be a hit piece and that my story would come across the way that I was telling it and honestly and it absolutely was not.”

Lane said, “They did take quotes from what I said and they put a negative connotation on it. They spun it to where it appeared negative. I did not have a negative experience with Donald Trump.”

The NYT report’s authors, Michael Barbaro and Megan Twohey, told CNN, “We really stand by our story, we believe we quoted her fairly and accurately and that the story really speaks for itself.”

Ivanka Trump told CBS the Times distorted facts about her father to fit its “strong thesis” about him, and cited the “backlash” against the story since it published. “It’s been largely discredited since….Most of the time, when stories are inaccurate, they’re not discredited, and I will be frustrated by that. But in this case, I think they went so far. They had — they had such a strong thesis and created facts to reinforce it…. And, you know, I think that narrative … has been playing out now.”

Palestinian Authority Government Incites Arab Women in Media Campaign

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

The Palestinian Authority government is now actively targeting Arab women in a new media campaign, the Palestinian Media Watch organization warns.

In this latest campaign, according to the PA Minister of Women’s Affairs, women in the Palestinian Authority are “different” from all others. Minister Haifa Al-Agha, herself a woman, extolled their “uniqueness” in an interview translated by PMW.

The Arab woman living in the Palestinian Authority is differentiated “from the women of the world as [only] she receives the news of her son’s Martyrdom with cries of joy,” Al-Agha told the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida in its November 7 edition.

“By praising mothers for their ‘cries of joy’ Minister Al-Agha is sending a message to PA society to attack Israelis without fear of death because Martyrdom for Allah is said to be the highest value and highest achievable status,” the PMW pointed out in a bulletin.

The minister also added the such women are noteworthy not only because they celebrate death, but because they also fight, praising their “significant presence in the field and battle arenas.”

In the current wave of terror, there have been a number of cases – including one this morning (Tuesday, Dec. 1) – in which Arab women and girls have attacked, or attempted to attack Israelis. Some, including those as young as 14 years old, have succeeded and a few have managed to murder people.

Ayelet Shaked Has Armed Escort following Death Threats

Monday, May 11th, 2015

A personal armed guard now is escorting Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) Knesset Member Ayelet Shaked following death threats.

Shaked is slated to be the Justice Minister, an appointment that has riled up the left-wing, which usually goes to bat for women but not if they are on the “wrong side” of the road.

The decision to escort Shaked with a guard was made by Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.

Supreme Court: Hareidi Papers Can’t Be Forced to Advertise Hareidi Women’s Party

Monday, March 16th, 2015

Hareidi newspapers can’t be forced to publish elections ads for the first all-female Hareidi (ultra-Orthodox) party, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.

A lower court had ruled that the Hareidi daily Yated Neeman was wrong in refusing to publish an ad for the female party U’Bezhutan.

The court found that Yated Neeman had unfairly discriminated against U’Bezhutan by refusing to publish its ad solely because the party’s members are women, while publishing ads for other Hareidi parties.

U’Bezhutan was formed in protest of the fact that existing Hareidi parties exclude women from their party lists.

Yated Neeman’s editors argued that their rabbinic leadership opposes the U’Bezhutan party, and that a paper cannot be forced to print any party’s ad. The courts would not force a newspaper written for the Arab public to run ads for a Jewish nationalist party, they argued.

The Supreme Court accepted their argument and overturned the previous ruling.

U’Bezhutan has faced considerable difficulty getting its message out. Hareidi communities in Israel tend to eschew television and the internet, preferring to get their news from hareidi daily papers – but those papers have refused to give publicity to the women’s party, even in the form of paid advertising.

Israeli Officials Out of the Country to Cast Election Ballots on Purim [election]

Tuesday, January 13th, 2015

An Israeli Supreme Court judge rejected on Tuesday an appeal by women to allow Israeli officials outside of the country to cast their votes in the Knesset elections in March on a day other than Purim.

Justice Salim Jourban ruled that the Knesset knew the law, or should have known the law, that sets the election date for officials out of the country 12 days before the election  date in Israel.

The appeal was filed the director of the agency for the advancement of the status of women and by Knesset Member Ruth Caldron.

They argued that voting on Purim would be very difficult for women.

Presumably, they would be with their children on the holiday but why that would stop them from voting is not clear, presuming their husbands did not get drunk at a Purim party the night before.

Muslim Teen ‘Wants to Behead Jews’ in Netherlands

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

A 14-year-old Muslim teen of Balkan descent has been suspended from De Spindle high school in the eastern Netherlands city of Hengelo uploaded a video in which he threatened Jewish women.

“Hi, I am from ISIS and I would like to cut off the heads of Jews,” “Ilhan M.” is seen saying, according to a report published Saturday in the De Telegraaf daily newspaper, quoted by JTA. He followed up that announcement with a string of profanities about Jewish women.

“Ilhan” was suspended after police discovered via a faculty report that he owned a prop gun. “The big question now is, how seriously should we take him?” said a ‘terrified’ student quoted by the newspaper. “What if he really means it? He will not be the first extremist Muslim youth in the Netherlands in the grip of ISIS….” said another.

While police played down the incident, calling it a “misguided action,” they nevertheless did not dismiss it despite anxiety by the students that their fears were being taken lightly.

Security officials in the Netherlands are becoming concerned about the number of Dutch citizens who have traveled abroad to fight for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Approximately 100 such people were fighting in Syria as of this summer, according to an estimate by the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service, AIVD.

Concerns are growing about the battle-ready jihadists who may then return and carry out other, similar attacks on local citizens, including Jewish targets.

Similar issues are being raised in other European countries across the continent, as well as in other nations around the globe – including Australia and Canada. Both recently enacted legislation to prevent the return of those who decide to leave their countries in order to fight with the jihadist terror organization.

ISIS Living High Life in Raqqa, Using Yazidi Females as Human Shields

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

Terrorists from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are preparing to defend areas they captured in northern Iraq after scores were killed last week in U.S. and French air strikes. The group has evacuated command-and-control centers in Mosul, Iraq and in Raqqa, Syria, according to a report posted by The Telegraph. They have also begun to use Yazidi women captives as human shields in other places, according to the report.

Raqqa is the informal “capital” of the ISIS “caliphate” and the site where the group has carried out three high-profile beheadings in recent weeks.

But it also turns out that in Raqqa, ISIS terrorists are still pretty much living the high life, when they are not busy with mass beheadings and capturing territory. It’s not a privilege they share with the locals, however.

The terrorists have taken over the governor’s ornate palace, and they are enjoying Western comforts brought to the palace by foreign fighters.

“Although there is a war on, Swiss chocolate is very popular with them,” one resident observed. “And you see some shops reserving Western food for the jihadists. I know that one of them asked a store to get an iPhone 6 for him. It cost $2,500 and was brought in from dealers in Turkey.”

Meanwhile, up to 100,000 Kurds and other local residents in the northern city of Kobane have fled to the Turkish border, where at least 70,000 had made it across by Monday morning in advance of a takeover of the city by ISIS.

Kurds who were moving in the other direction, however, to fight against ISIS, were equally concerned about the air strikes – not wanting to become targets themselves.

Abu Mohammed, a local activist quoted by the National Post and who runs the “Raqqa is being slaughtered silently” website, said, “People are afraid of the air strikes, that they might be used as human shields or be bombed.

“Many people fled to the countryside or to Turkey… When small planes for reconnaissance appear, the jihadists hide. They even lock the doors of their headquarters. They also moved their families, their women and children, outside Raqqa.”

Abu Mohammed added that locals don’t trust America any more than they trust ISIS. “If the U.S. is really against ISIS why did they leave them all that time, and why did they turna blind eye to Bashar al-Assad? He is a terrorist who is bombing us,” he asked.
