At times the entire nation reaches the edge of despair and national suicide, when Judaism can no longer survive, Hashem bestows on the community individuals that change Jewish destiny. They are the redeemers. Such an individual understands the suffering of the individual and the community. Hashem addressed the Decalogue to such an individual.
