The government cabinet voted Sunday at its weekly meeting to briefly extend the use of technological monitoring (the ‘Haskamon’ app) for Israelis returning from overseas who are required to self-quarantine after their arrival.

The monitoring program will continue until this coming Wednesday, Feb. 9.

The ministers also voted to cancel the Purple Badge program that was required in commercial facilities and shopping malls as a means of prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The move comes as the government updates its Green Pass regulations, which by and large were also canceled with the decision.

As a result, shoppers will no longer be required to show the Green Pass – which documents proof of vaccination or recovery from the virus – in order to enter a mall or any other commercial facility.

Unvaccinated people will be allowed to enter malls to obtain essential goods, such as pharmaceuticals and food.

Those who test positive for the virus, however, must continue to quarantine for a five-day period, and then test negative prior to leaving isolation.

The Purple Badge decision is to take effect at midnight Wednesday into Thursday, February 10, 2022.
