Fire started by Hamas arson attack in southern Israel

A large fire broke out Monday close to Kibbutz Ashdot Yaacov, south of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), near the Jordanian border.

Officials in the Jordan Valley Regional Council told the Hebrew-language Ynet site that authorities suspect that arson was involved.

Firefighters battled the flames for hours, working to prevent the blaze from spreading to the community’s banana plantations.

Gaza-based terrorists have continued to carry out arson terror attacks against southern Israeli communities even after the start of a ceasefire early Monday.

At least two large fires were set off by incendiary balloons that were flown across the Gaza by Hamas terrorists in defiance of the agreement worked out with Israel by Egyptian mediators.

Despite the violation of the truce, there have been no attacks in retaliation by Israel.
