Palestinian Authority (PA) officials are seeking to obtain overseas posts at any cost, TPS has learned, another sign of the PA’s deteriorating state.

The PA’s Clerk Union on Tuesday held a conference in Ramallah that was attended by hundreds of government employees. It became apparent during the event that hundreds of employees had requested to be posted abroad in PA embassies and consulates around the world.

A source within the PA told TPS that the requests are for diplomatic, security-related or administrative positions, but PA head Mahmoud Abbas has denied all the requests.

It is of significance to note that not all appointments abroad entail higher pay or improved work benefits.

One of the attendees noted that this phenomenon is another indicator of the PA’s deteriorating situation, and especially of a prevalent fear in the PA of the pending developments. He called it “the silent migration of the PA clerks.”
