PRIME MINISTER and POPE FRANCIS

A Jew and a Catholic went to Congress kind of sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it is what will be played out over the next few months. The Jew of course is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Catholic Pope Frances. Each was invited to speak under the same circumstances, but the reaction to the invitations was totally different.

Speaker Boehner invited two people to speak to a joint session of congress. The speaker didn’t check with the President before making either invitation (nor did he have to). Each of the two speakers has something important to say to the members of congress.

The Premier of the Jewish State didn’t accept the invitation until the President was informed he was roundly criticized for accepting. The head of the Catholic Church was invited and when he accepted no one asked if the President knew…everyone just cheered.

Only the Jewish man’s visit was criticized. I am not saying his visit was bashed only because he is Jewish—I’m just pointing out a fact.

When the Jewish man was invited without checking with the President even though Obama was informed before the Jewish man said yes, the White House called it a breach of protocol. On the day the head of the Catholic Church accepted the invitation the President didn’t call it a breach of protocol, he said he was eager to welcome the pope to the U.S. “Like so many people around the world, I’ve been touched by his call to relieve suffering, and to show justice and mercy and compassion to the most vulnerable.”

It was strange that he praised the leader of the Catholic Church but called the Jewish leader’s acceptance a breach of protocol. I am not saying the Jew’s visit was a breach of protocol only because of his faith; I’m just pointing out fact.

A few months ago the President blasted the same Premier of the Jewish State for allowing Jews to purchase homes in certain areas of Jerusalem. It was a very unique criticism. That President had never criticized people of any other faith for buying homes in any other spot in the world.

Now I am not saying the President hated the home sale because the buyers were Jewish—I’m just pointing out a fact.

On Thursday, Nancy Pelosi said that many members of her caucus would be too busy to show up when the Prime Minister of the Jewish State spoke before Congress. “I don’t think anybody should use the word ‘boycott,'” Pelosi said. “When these heads of state come, people are here doing their work, they’re trying to pass legislation, they’re meeting with their constituents and the rest. It’s not a high-priority item for them.” Just a few hours earlier when she heard that the leader of the Catholic Church was going to speak before congress Pelosi said in a written statement that she looks forward to “hearing his call to live our values, to protect the poor and the needy, and to promote peace.”

Why was Pelosi’s reaction different for the Jew and the Catholic? I am not saying it had anything to do with the Jew’s faith; I’m just making a statement of fact.

Reps. John Lewis (D-GA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), and G.K. Butterworth (D-NC) all said they wouldn’t attend the Jews speech because they were too busy. They haven’t said whether they would attend the Catholic’s speech.

Just because they will show up for the Pope plan to be too busy for the Jew, it doesn’t mean they made they made the decision based on religion. I am just pointing out what is happening.

Essentially both leaders will be delivering a message about how we should be treating each other. The Pope is going to Congress to deliver a message of peace; his teachings are usually about how mankind should be nicer to each other no matter who they are. He speaks of a Savior who saves souls. The Jewish Premier is going to congress to talk about preventing one evil nation from creating a super weapon to kill millions of people, both in his country and in this country. People of both parties share his opinion.

One of the speakers is talking about saving souls; the other is talking about saving lives. But only the Jew’s message is criticized in the mainstream media as a “slap” at the President. I am not saying its because he is Jewish, I am just point out a fact.

Two leaders invited to speak before a joint session of Congress, both were invited without first asking the White House, the president was aware of the invitations before each was accepted. Each of the leaders were close friends of the United States, each will deliver an important message designed to make this world a better place. But only the Pope is being welcomed.

I am not saying the Prime Minister visit is being criticized because he is Jewish and he leads the only Jewish country in the world, a country which is threatened by terrorists and by Iranian nuclear weapons, there must be a more logical reason—I just can’t think of one right now.

  1. The reason that Netanyahu is being invited is because Obama is pursuing a course with Iran that is dangerous and unproductive. John Boehner invited Bibi to "enlighten" Congress and the American public on the situation there in Iran. Since Pelosi and others have planned to snub Netanyahu the Leader of the Democratic Middle East then the donors need to make note of all of this treachery and disrespect to the Leader of Israel. Obama wants Bibi out; so he can further his agenda in the region. So far it is heavily tilted to the Muslim Brotherhood. Cries of racism are coming in saying the President is being undermined because of his race. The real fact he is being held accountable because of his Treachery!

  2. Obama doesn't like jews because he is a muslim,Obama fidn't want Netanyahu to speak because he would tell congress about the bad deai letting Iran keep there nuclear .but with the pope he wants to act like he cares what h got to say ,If democrates doesn't go to Netanyahu speech and goes to the popes i will never vote 4 another democrate ,Netanyahu speech is more inportant then the pope because we know te pope loves his muslims that should work with Obama ,Netanyahu is trying to keep a crazy Iran from getting nuclear to save Israel and the jewih people

  3. Why is it OK for Obama to invite anyone he likes at anytime to the White House but the Speaker of House, a coequal branch, can't do the same thing. When was the last time Obama asked permission from Boehner when he has actual enemies of US at the White House for dinner. The only reason the Dems are upset is because their annoited "fearless leader" hates Jews and loves Muslims.

  4. I am so sorry that our government and his followers are being so rude to the Prime Minister of Israel. I and many Americans like me stand with Israel and our prayers are with y'all.

  5. Penny Bywaters, just because the congress is an equal branch of the government does not mean the US Constitution granted them equal powers. Foreign affairs are a matter for the executive branch (the President) and in fact there is a law that forbids Boehner from interfering with foreign heads of state. All spending needs to be approved by the congress. War is declared by the congress but waged by the commander in chief (the executive branch – the President) There is no law that forbids the President from inviting anyone he wants to the White House and except for foreign heads of state, the congress can invite anyone they want. You should make an attempt to know what you are talking about before you look like an ignorant idiot!

Making a disgusting comment that you have no knowledge about in fact makes you look like a stupid ignorant idiot for President Obama is not a Muslim and anyone with even a tenth of their brains intact knows. Furthermore he does not hate Jews at all and that is why some of his must trusted advisers are Jews and in fact he has appointed more Jews to his inside counsel than any other President. Attempting to insult the President confirms what everyone already knows about you – that you are a stupid ignorant person!

  6. Alan Kardon, the pope is not the head of a foreign government and as such Boehner can invite him to speak. President Obama will of course invite him to meet at the White House either before or after the Pope addresses the congress. Of course Boehner could be shocked at what the pope might have to say to the republicans as the are very bad Christians and the pope is not above telling them so!

  7. Let's face the truest fact of all: Obama is one of the worst presidents this country has ever seen. He is not a leader and some of his fellow Dems have blinders on their heads. We are all unique and true to our own causes. We should listen to everyone. It is so unfair to call someone an idiot for their point of view. However, it is your right in this country. Not nice, but your right. The Jews are the best fighters of freedom in this world: Don't forget it!

  8. Edward Lobel Isn't it nice that we have the likes of you to enlighten us all. Actions speak very loud and the actions of this very weak and impotent president is indisputable. He has a history of releasing dangerous Al Queda prisoners back in to the active war theater, he bows and kisses the hand of a Saudi King, and he has been a practicing Muslim in the early part of his life before he understudied with "Uncle Frank" the avowed Communist and Pornographer. It is no wonder that he funded the Arab Brotherhood and Al Queda to overthrow Qadauffi? Liberal Loons always go for personal attacks to try and marginalize anyone that disagrees with their position. They have no other basis to argue it is obvious how weak and pathetic your attempt really is… At a minimum Obam is an extreme Muslim Sympathizer and the real truth is; he is a devout supporter! Keep drinking the Kool Aid pal!

  9. I am very sorry for the behavior of any congressional members who choose not to attend the Prime Minister's visit… I think they are behaving in very poor taste– shameful… I do like the style of writing in this piece; "I am not saying its because he is Jewish, I am just point out a fact."

  10. So what does running for re-election have to do with anything, when you are being an advocate and a statesman for the preservation of your people from danger they face every day…God wil save the Jewish people in spite of you, Mr. Hammer.
