Brooklyn College OKs Boycott Event but Welcomes Opposing Views

Brooklyn College has stood by its decision to co-sponsor an event featuring speakers in favor of an academic boycott of Israel because of the presence of Jews in Judea and Samaria, but the college added it would host similar events that present opposing views.

Karen L. Gould, the president of BrooklynCollege, said in a statement, “Over the next two months, with the support of the Wolfe Institute for the Humanities and other campus units and community groups, we will provide multiple opportunities for discussion about the topics and related subject matter at the heart of this controversy.”

Speakers from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement are to speak at the college on Thursday, and Gould emphasized that their right to speak overrides her personal opinion that opposes the boycott movement.
