Illegal African Infiltrators Violate Detention Conditions Again

Thursday, December 19th, 2013

Illegal African infiltrators continued to violate the terms of their administration detention Thursday and marched to demonstrate their demand for asylum as refugees, which is not granted to people who leave their home countries simply because they want a better standard of living.

They also demanded the release of other illegal infiltrators who were arrested in Jerusalem on Wednesday after they left the new Holot detention center near Be’er Sheva and stayed away at night.

Police arrested dozens of the protesters and took them back to Holot, where they are required to stay at night and must report during the day, when they are otherwise free to leave.

The influx of the Africans the past few years was a major headache for the government, which did noting to stop them until thousands of them began hanging out in Tel Aviv instead of the Negev. Official sprang into action and built a fence along the Egyptian border that has reduced infiltrations to near zero, but now the country is left with the headache of what to do with the tens of thousands who remain and do not qualify for the status of refugees.

Police Put an End to Protest by Illegal African Infiltrators

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

Immigration police, backed up by Border Police, broke up an unauthorized protest by illegal African infiltrators in front of the office of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Tuesday and put them on buses that took them back to a new administrative detention facility near Be’er Sheva.

The infiltrators were demonstrating against last week’s law passed by the Knesset that allows holding them for one year without trial. The Supreme Court earlier this year struck down a Knesset law that provided for their detention for up to three years, but the judges said they might consider permitting a shorter time period.

If investigations determine that the infiltrators are not refugees and simply entered Israel to seek a better life, they can be deported.

Left-wing volunteers have been assisting the Africans to claim to win international sympathy based on the claim that they are refugees. Most of the infiltrators are from Sudan and Eritrea.

Illegal African Infiltrators March for Refugee Status

Monday, December 16th, 2013

Hundreds of illegal infiltrators from Africa fled from their detention facility in metropolitan Tel Aviv Sunday night and marched on a highway in southern Israel on Monday in a demonstration to demand refugee status.

The illegal immigrants are allowed to leave the detention center in the day and return at night. Instead of going back to the center Sunday night, they traveled south to Be’er Sheva, camped out at the bus station and starting marching north towards Jerusalem in the morning.

They are protesting last week’s law passed by the Knesset that allows them to be held in a detention facility for one year without trial. The Supreme Court recently struck down legislation that they could be held for administrative detention for three years, but the judges suggested they might agree to a shorter term.

If the government wants, it could take advantage of their violating conditions of detention as cause to try to deport them after having determined that they came into Israel looking for a better life and not to escape conditions where their human  rights were being violated.
