Federal authorities have cleared all floors of all the buildings at Washington DC’s Navy Yard Thursday, saying no shooter, no weapons and no wounded were found, according to reports by numerous international media.
Police on the 911 dispatch switchboard received reports of a suspected shooter in the Naval Sea Command Building 197 at about 7:30 am Thursday morning.
The call sparked an immediate response from a full complement of DC-area law enforcement agencies, NBC News 4 reported. Among the responders were officers from the local police department, U.S. Park Police, Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) and more.
As of 9 am, a nearby elementary school was also placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of those around the area.
Staff working in Building 197 told friends by telephone the situation “feels like an echo of 2013,” when a gunman shot and killed 12 people before shooting and killing himself.
Police have found the person who made the initial 911 emergency call and are conducting interviews to obtain further information.
Surveillance video showed unidentified two people jumping a fence near the location from where the first 911 call was place, according to a report by The Associated Press.
Although there have been no gunshots and no suspects have yet been seen or found, security officials took no chances and performed a double sweep of the campus.
