IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz has dismissed Lt. Colonel Liran Hajbi, a Givati battalion commander, from his position, following an investigation that Hajbi sexually harassed female soldiers under his command.
There are those in Israeli left that have been trying to use Hajbi’s alleged crime as a means to attack his superior officer, Colonel Ofer Winter.
When the story first broke, anonymous voices from the Left claimed Winter tried to cover up the story.
When it was discovered that Winter, not only did not try to cover it up, but was helping investigators, they changed their tune, and then said Winter didn’t do enough in the first place, and he should have known more about what was (secretly) going on under his command.
Winter, a religious senior officer, has been under attack by the radical left who do not want to see an unabashedly religious officer becoming Chief of Staff, which is the career trajectory every believes Winter is on.
