The Jewish Press joins Klal Yisrael in mourning the passing of Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum, rabbi of Brooklyn’s Congregation Bnai Israel of Linden Heights, director of the Igud Harabbonim-Rabbinical Alliance of America and longtime Jewish Press columnist.

An accomplished Talmudist, he was also noted for his keen sense of Jewish history, particularly that of Jewish communities in pre-war Europe and he served as an important link to the lives and work of several chassidishe rebbes of that era.

For many years Rabbi Tannenbaum covered the chassidish and yeshivish communities for The Jewish Press and collaborated with Jewish Press Torah Editor Rabbi Yaakov Klass on a weekly column analyzing current Daf Yomi topics.

Committed to the welfare of his fellow Jews, Rabbi Tannenbaum spent much of his day involved with the shidduch and agunah problems affecting so many in the Jewish community.

May his memory be a blessing.
