We note that after 36 years of serving in the New York State Assembly, Brooklyn’s Dov Hikind last week announced he will not run for reelection on November 6th this year. His 48th Assembly District includes Boro Park, which has one of the largest Jewish communities outside of Israel, and also part of Flatbush, which also contains a large Jewish constituency.

An unabashed supporter of Israel and a critic of anti-Semites and anti-Semitism, Hikind emerged in the last few years as a very vocal and forceful supporter of the Jewish state and efforts to combat anti-Semitism in New York and succeeded in keeping those two issues on the public agenda. We doubt we will see that sort of advocacy matched any time soon.
