Israeli Border Guard Police foiled an attempted terror attack by a Palestinian Arab at the Tapuach junction in Samaria.
Had that attacker escaped, he could have entered a Jewish community or even reached Jerusalem and there possibly have perpetrated an even greater attack.
The 20-year-old terrorist, a resident of Shechem (Nablus), approached the security personnel standing guard at the site, pulled out a knife and attempted to stab an officer.
Another Israeli officer raised his weapon and the wannabe attacker fled, but was caught a few seconds later. He was taken into custody and transferred to security personnel for questioning.
Company Commander Superintendant Roi Amos praised the quick action of the IDF fighters whose alert actions saved the lives of their fellow officers and others at the site.
“The soldiers were alert and prepared,” he said. “This is precisely the reason the incident ended this way; we’re talking about a situation of a few seconds.
“Vigilance and operational preparedness are the only manner in which one can cope with such incidents. First and foremost things went as expected from each Border Guard Police officer during an actual terrorism attack when he is tested and must protect his life and the innocent lives of others.”
