The iconic Israeli department store Hamashbir Lazarchan is reportedly going to open an online branch with Amazon Israel, according to sources quoted by the Globes business news site.

The move is being made in addition to starting its own ecommerce website, which was announced to investors at a presentation last week. Currently Hamashbir’s online activity is being conducted through the azrieli.com ecommerce website.

According to the report, not every category of merchandise in its stores will be available for purchase online via Amazon; just those items in which Hamashbir Lazarchan is the official exclusive marketer, in order to minimize local competition.

The chain hopes to move 10 percent of its sales turnover – approximately NIS 100 million per year – to the online division within the next three years.

Amazon is charging a 17 percent commission in fashion merchandise and 15 percent in other categories, plus NIS 30 per delivery.
