New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has told voters in Sioux City, Iowa that he is mulling a run for president.

The mayor told Democrats Saturday at Rebos bar in the city that working people would “answer the call of the Democratic party” if they hear the party is “resolute in defense of their interests,” according to a report by the Sioux City Journal.

De Blasio, who was hosted by local party members at a meet-and-greet, continued to push for the same progressive agenda he has maintained over the years in New York City.

He told those gathered that he believes a new progressive era may be dawning in the United States, referencing a group of liberal Democrats advocating health care for all, and free college education, while looking back towards Roosevelt’s New Deal of the 1930s.

But he declined to say definitively whether he would toss his hat into the ring for 2020.

“I have not ruled out a run for president, obviously,” he said during his remarks, according to SCJ. But he told reporters later that he wants to discuss the prospect with his family before coming to a final decision.
