Calif. Rabbi Arrested On Child Sex Abuse Charges From N.Y.

By: JTA

A rabbi was arrested at the Beverly Hills, California Jewish youth center for child sex abuse charges in New York,  the Jewish Journal of Los Angeles reported.

Menachem Tewel, known also as Mendel Tevel, worked at the JEM Center, and a police spokesman said he will  be extradited to New York under an outstanding warrant for his arrest charging criminal sexual acts there. The charges date back as far as the mid-1990s and as recently as 2004. The rabbi has no previous convictions, the Journal added.

Tewel is married to the daughter of Rabbi Herzl Illulian, director and founder of the JEM Center.

“God will help that it will show that it’s all false and will clear up, and people will see while we will still continue our good job for the community,” Illulian told KABC TV.

  1. Take the most severe steps possible.

  2. Our religion teaches us not to delight or revel in the downfall of another and not to do loshan huirah. So maybe this should not be so publicized.

  3. Dan Silagi says:

Find him guilty as charged first.

  4. I AM ASHAMED TOO AS I ALWAYS BELIEVE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE HAVE TO SELP PEOPLE. GOD FORGIVE HIM AND GIVE HIM A HEART TO REPENT FOR HIS DIDS IF HE BELIEVES HE DID WRONG
