A rare meeting took place Monday in Ramallah, between Rabbi Menachem Chai Shalom Fruman, Nachum Pachnik, chairman of the Eretz Shalom movement, the movement’s director Rabbi Tzuriel Krispel, Rabbi Michael Melchior, and Adina Bar Shalom, daughter of Rav Ovadia Yosef, and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), Kikar HaShabbat reported.

The rabbis came to the meeting in order to encourage a series of meetings between rabbis and clergymen and senior Palestinian officials.

Abbas addressed the Iranian threat against Israel, and, surprisingly, expressed his objection to permitting Iran to possess a nuclear bomb, thus dragging the entire region into great danger. “I hope there won’t be a war, because any bloodshed is forbidden (Haram).”

Further astounding his guests, Abu Mazen added, “The State of Israel was established in order to remain in existence and not, like some extremists claim, that it’s necessary to annul its existence.”

But he added that alongside Israel “there is a country that’s missing – Palestine.”

Rabbi Krispel requested from Abbas’s blessing “for more meetings between rabbis and sheiks, to form a connection. We believe that we can broaden these circles and create an environment of co-existence between Israelis and Palestinians.”

As reported, Mrs. Adina Bar Shalom, Rav Ovadia Yosef’s daughter, also participated in this meeting. Rabbi Fruman introduced her to the Palestinian officials and even called her “Rabbanit.”

“We did not bring the Rabbanit because of her opinions,” said Rabbi Fruman. “Even though she is a ‘rabbi’ in her own right and I do address her as Rabbi Bar Shalom. She is here because she is the closest person to her father, closer than the reporters whom you rely on.”

“Rav Ovadia Yosef is not what the newspapers make him out to be. Rav Ovadia uses his influence on the Israeli public and also on the Israeli government,” Rabbi Fruman told the Palestinian officials.

At the end of the meeting, Abu Mazen requested to convey his greetings to Rav Ovadia Yosef and even expressed hope of a future meeting with him.

Nothing like reading propagandists for the enemy in a Jewish paper.

    • Yori Yanover says:

Thank God we're a website, not a paper. Also, I've known Rabbi Fruman for a long time — interviewed him for Arutz 7 when it was a radio station — and I don't believe your accusation holds water.

    • Thank's for telling us that someone is being maligned.

Too often simplistic thinking clouds out complex situations.

After Abbas' speech denying the Jewish in Jerusalem, I wanted to slap his face. But after reading endless points of view about him, I still am not sure about the value of his being removed from office.

He is overdue for an election, but will Hamas win? If so is that better?

    • Hadar Israel says:

Yori Yanover, satraps need useful idiots like Fruman and people with a short memory who don't remember his visits to Hamas terrorists in Hebron… See no evil?…

  2. Mark Bernstein says:

They paid a visit to the money man for the Munich massacre who still celebrates naming town squares after murderers of children, and who wrote his PhD thesis arguing for Holocaust revisionism. But he said to these few naive guests in private (not to anyone else, mind you) that Israel has a reason to exist and violence is "forbidden". Wow, what a nice man! Who knew? Let's break out the champagne. He's right up there with the great Arafat who said that he condemned terrorism (well, to the Western media, anyway). Abbas is in desperate need of support from any quarter, given that Hamas is making him more and more irrelevant, so why not tell these people anything they want to hear. Jews like these act like shmatas without any self-respect, and so Jews get treated like shmatas. It's a funny thing, the Satmar Rebbe has been vilified for being so anti-Zionist, but even he said, when asked to meet with Arafat: "I don't meet with murderers." But that issue is no problem for this group, so long as they are not the ones being murdered. Prime ministers are under great pressure to meet other "leaders," and see if anything can be done, but these people went there freely and will achieve nothing except lend credence to our enemies. Rabbi Fruhamn davened for Obama to be elected and held him up as some ideal. A long beard, a soft voice, and truly clueless.

  3. A lesson in statecraft and realpolitik: A politician tries to be all things to all people. Abbas will utilise every tool at his disposal in order to realise his mandate.

  4. Hadar Israel says:

Does someone remember Mr. Fruman's DELIRIOUS interview (one of many and also part of Steve Emerson's movie "Jihad in America" in the early nineties, if I remember correctly) in which, while enjoying the company of an infamous Hamas leader in Hebron who is, B"H, no longer among he living, said the hallucinated phrase about Hamas: "If from our heart we give them love we'll get back love…we get back what we give".. Which is a DELIRIOUSLY ANTISEMITIC STATEMENT…
He is the same guy who in the Spring of 1996, when rabbi of Teqoa, was pelted with rotten tomatoes by the yishuv youth, including his son, when he invited into Teqoa Yasser AraBfaRt's spokesman Ahmed Tibi…
These people evidently smoked too much in their youth to realize that Israel is not Woodstock and that "peace and love" is fine when you are not facing muslims whose reason for living is to die for Allah taking with them as many infidels as possible.
HE is the same guy who promised good tidings to Israel at the time of Oslo, a real PROFESSIONAL FALSE PROPHET! Just like the Ovadia Yosef who promised good tidings supporting Oslo with the FALSE NOTION that giving land to terrorists would bring peace!

  5. I am surprised and disappointed that you are giving so much kavod to that false prophet Rabbi Fruman. And the fact that Rabbi Ovadia's daughter met with Abbas simply shows that intelligent people don't always do intelligent things. Also, this was a private, non-televised visit, was it not? But the Jewish world now knows about it.

THEREFORE note the probable result: now the Jews are weakened in their resolve to see Abbas as the enemy he really is; while the Arabs, happily ignorant, remain tsammud, steadfast, in their resolve and hatred of Israel. Thank you (for nothing), Jewish Press, you (and Tuvia your ace reporter) have served as useful idiots!

  6. Chaiya Eitan says:

. Rav Ovadia uses his influence on the Israeli public and also on the Israeli government,” – This is part of the problem! They should have no say when it comes to the security of the country! They don't even realize they're being 'played' by Abbas!

    • Robert Stark says:

Is his daughter a leftist or something? I mean, not that its a bad thing necessarily, but maybe she is the rebel in the family?

If Rabbi Ovadia Yosef would have gone, then I'd be totally shocked.

    • Chaiya Eitan says:

And what's with her kissing him on the hand?? He's her father! Maybe I just don't understand this culture.

  7. Anonymous says:

Why "even" Rabanit? What else would a rabbi call her?

  8. god save us from our idiotic leaders and our pathetic rabbinim and their daughters too. this is so wrong on so many levels, selling out to the enemy instead of being like king david and killing them. dead they don't make trouble for us. I am sick to death of our leaders whining and giving in and looking weak when am ysrael is not like that and hates all this pandering to liars. what does it say about these rabbinim meeting abbas when its all known about the corruption he is involved in. same attracts to same.

    • Dina Moskowitz says:

Amen, it's just sickening, you just can't trust anybody in any sort of leadership or authority position in this country, including rabbis!

    • The american presidents aren't any better.

    • Jonathan Engel says:

Rabbis should be better than American presidents, but aren't. The rabbinate has no rights to our respect. They have to earn it.

    • Remind me…what religious organization voted to expel our people from Gaza?

    • we need Moshiach for who puts order here!

    • Zvi Zimri says:

I'm with Ruth on this except one reservation. Looking and sounding weak has been widespread among Jews at least since the early 19th century. Unfortunately our poor excuses for leaders did not invent it, even if they've taken it to new lows.

    • well if the weak willed idiots will just move aside and let us who actually have power and courage do the job, we would not be in this mess. but they are so glued to their chairs and lining their pockets that they are not willing to let go. even if they take all of us down with them. better start to uproot the chairs then so that some of am ysrael will be saved.

  9. Cathy Sherman says:

"Abbas addressed the Iranian threat against Israel, and, surprisingly, expressed his objection to permitting Iran to possess a nuclear bomb"-nu? Arabs living in or near Israel would be just as affected by a nuclear bomb as we Jews. “I hope there won’t be a war, because any bloodshed is forbidden (Haram).” Bloodshed is forbidden? He’s kidding, right? They celebrate it.

Further astounding his guests, Abu Mazen(why don't you say Abbas?) added, “The State of Israel was established in order to remain in existence and not, like some extremists claim, that it’s necessary to annul its existence.” Sure, as long as it’s in New York.

But he added that alongside Israel “there is a country that’s missing – Palestine.” Wrong again- it’s not missing, it’s in Jordan. Not to mention that Palestine is really Israel, but let's not get sidetracked by historical facts.

Rabbi Krispel requested from Abbas’s blessing “for more meetings between rabbis and sheiks, to form a connection. We believe that we can broaden these circles and create an environment of co-existence between Israelis and Palestinians.” Gag me- give one piece of evidence for this. Abbas just lied to you many times and you believe he can be your friend? You're all dangerously wrong.

  10. Mark Bernstein says:

Abbas admits he has ordered terrorists to launch attacks on Israelis (as if this is a question. Only people living in fairytale land don't know this.) See this video where he says it:

As for this Rabbi Fruhman (or Froman), do people know who he is? He drafted a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, known as the Froman-Amayreh Agreement. This agreement was so extreme and unhelpful to Israel that it was endorsed by the Hamas government and Hamas leader-in-exile Khaled Meshal. Of course, it was rightfully rejected by Israel. He wants Jerusalem to be made into the religious capital of Islam and Christianity as well as Judaism. Froman has close ties with Palestinian leaders. In a letter he sent to Abbas, he wrote about his last conversation with mass murderer Yasser Arafat (may his name be blotted out):

'I remember my last conversation with him, close to his death, when he answered me with emotion: "You are my brother!" and of course it is possible to explain his emotion, that he wanted to tell me, close to his death, that the two nations – the Israelis and the Palestinians – are brothers, that if the fate of one improves so does the fate of its double. The president customarily would thank me for these blessings and would order that these blessings be publicized in the Palestinian newspapers so that the Palestinian nation will know that there are Jewish rabbis who are blessing them with blessings of peace.'

So, with dangerous and foolish Jews like these, who needs enemies? His actions are as revolting as those of Neturei Karta.
