Sir Martin Gilbert

The historian, Sir Martin Gilbert, has died at the age of 78.

Gilbert was the official historian of Winston Churchill, but for more contemporary readers, his Routledge Atlas of the Arab-Israeli Conflict can be found on many Jewish bookshelves.

Gilbert authored some 80 history on Jewish and Israeli history, as well as on Churchill and World War 2.

Gilbert was born in London in 1936.
