Dr. Mordechai Kedar is Research Associate at the BESA Center for Strategic Studies at Bar Ilan University, a renowned expert on radical Islam, and served for 25 years as Lt. Col. in Israeli military intelligence (and still in the reserves as part of the Northern Command.) He joins Yishai in-studio to spell out the religious motivations of Islamic State terrorists, President Obama’s outsourcing of Iran as a tool against ISIS and future scenarios for the Middle East.

Then, Alex Selsky, the newest and one of the youngest members of the Jewish Agency’s Board of Governors — who is also the CEO of the World Forum of Russian-Speaking Jewry and formerly served as adviser to PM Benjamin Netanyahu — joins Yishai in-studio to talk about the Israeli Russian-speaking electorate and how its voting patterns and political allegiances have changed over the years. He also delves into the workings of modern Russia, President Vladimir Putin and the murder of former Russian Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov.

A Pre-Nuclear Iran and California Anti-Jewishness

Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

Michael Doran, Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, and former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, joins Yishai to review the impact of PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s Congress speech. He demonstrates how the US administration’s creation of a “small band” of issues (i.e. how many centrifuges and how much uranium) limits the discussion of the real danger posed by Iran. Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic shows its local Middle East audience that it is a rising power and now possesses long-range rockets that can deliver their would-be nuclear arsenal.

Then, Ethan Bearman, nationally syndicated American radio talk-show host and one of Talkers magazine’s 2014 “Heavy Hundred,” joins Yishai live from San Francisco. He discusses the fuss over Rachel Beyda, a candidate for a student board position at UCLA who was challenged with the question: “Given that you are a Jewish student and very active in the Jewish community, how do you see yourself being able to maintain an unbiased view?” Do Jews and friends of Israel have a right to speak out and push back on the tide of liberalism?

Purim Politics: A.B. Yehoshua on the Meaning of Zionism

Friday, March 6th, 2015

Israel Prize-winning novelist, essayist and playwright A.B. Yehoshua (“Buli”)– author, most recently, of “Ahizat Moledet” (Homeland Lesson) — was called the “Israeli Faulkner” by the New York Times. A left-wing intellectual, he has recently called on Europe to recognize Palestine as a independent state. He joins Yishai to talk about the meaning of Zionism, and give literary depth to the Scroll of Esther.

Then, Knesset Insider Jeremy Saltan joins Yishai in-studio to dissect the politics behind the Purim story. Why did the king never leave the palace? Why was Haman so thin-skinned? How did the politically sharp Esther out-maneuver Haman’s advisers and create an inner political circle that enabled her to accuse Haman, right to his face?

Celebrating Jewish Survival and Strength

Thursday, March 5th, 2015

(((CLICK BELOW TO HEAR AUDIO)))

Across Eastern Europe, more than a million Jews were killed by Nazi paramilitary death squads called “Einsatzgruppen,” and their bodies were thrown into mass graves. Many of these grave sites remained unmentioned and untouched for decades, and they probably would have continued to go unnoticed, if not for the efforts of a French priest, Father Patrick Desbois, who has devoted his life to researching the Holocaust and fighting anti-Semitism. On the Fast of Esther, Father Desbois joins Yishai to convey a message of Jewish strength.

Then, VOI’s Binyamin Nakonechny joins Yishai in-studio to tell stories and play music in preparation for the Purim holiday — and in keeping with the verse from the Book of Esther: “The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor.”

Pro-Israel Arabs, AIPAC Speeches, and Israeli Debates

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

Fred Maroun — a Canadian of Arab origin, who lived in Lebanon until 1984 (including during 10 years of civil war)– supports Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. He also favors a liberal and democratic Middle East, where all religions and nationalities can coexist in peace with each other and with Israel. He tells Yishai the ironic tale of how Israel brought him back to a relationship with the Arab world, and the sad reality of how pro-Israel Arabs cannot speak freely in Arab countries.

Then, Paul Miller — executive director of the Salomon Center and a highly regarded writer and political consultant — joins Yishai from the AIPAC policy conference in Washington, and reports on PM Netanyahu’s speech in preparation for his big Congressional address. He also describes the electric talk given by Democratic Sen. Bob Menedez of New Jersey in favor of a strong Israel.

Finally, VOI’s Jeremy Saltan join Yishai in-studio for an analysis of Israeli debates and the lead-up to PM Netanyahu’s speech before the US Congress.

The Canadian Reverend/Biker/Radio Show Host, and the Israeli F-16 Pilot

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015

Rev. John Counsell is a pastor, a radio show host, a biker and an Israel-lover. Together with one of Ottawa’s top rabbis, he is leading a tour of the Holy Land for his listeners. John joins Yishai to talk about living an inspiring biblical life; hosting a religious, call-in talk-radio show on a secular station in Canada; ministering to bikers; and supporting Israel with all his heart.

Then, Yishai hosts Brig. Gen. Avi Yaakovi, recently retired from the Israel Air Force, after flying more than 4,000 hours on an F-16 — thereby setting an Israeli record and becoming part of an exclusive international club consisting of only a few dozen elite pilots. He claims that no matter how fun flying is, the IAF’s real mission is the defense of Israel. He also says that he will now focus on his job as a human resources manager at a company that manufactures 3D printers, with 3,000 employees.

These ‘Cynical Elections,’ and the Moses-Amalek Face-Off

Friday, February 27th, 2015

(((CLICK BELOW TO HEAR AUDIO)))

The worsening housing crisis, the worsening Iran crisis and other problems that Israeli politicians can’t seem to solve — and with Knesset elections taking place a mere two years after the previous ones — are causing many Israelis to be cynical about the political process. The voter has a desire to see something different, but will they be disappointed again? Dr. Seth Frantzman, op-ed editor of the Jerusalem Post, joins Yishaiin-studio to discuss the state of the Israeli electorate.

How can the most famous man in history also be the most humble? Why are we commanded to remember to destroy the memory of Amalek (Israel’s arch nemesis)? These and other conundrums are the topics of discussion between Rabbi Mike Feuer and Yishai on the segment that gets you ready for Shabbat.
