Absolutely no one drive their cars on Yom Kippur in Israel, at least not in major Jewish population centers, such as Netanya, Tel Aviv, and in the picture above Jerusalem. So Secular Israelis take advantage of the holy day’s unintended consequences and ride their bikes and skateboards on the streets and even on the highways. Nothing to fear.
It’s amazing to think the Egyptians thought it would be to their advantage to attack Israel on Yom Kippur. I suppose they had visions of themselves on Ramadan, weakened by the fast. They attacked on the one day where all of Israel’s adults were either in shul or at home, and easily reached by the army roundup guys.
Friday night was quite noisy on Jabotinsky Street in Netanya. You’d be amazed how much noise a group of ten skateboards can make when there are no competing traffic sounds to drown them out.
Go build your Sukkah.
