MK Betzalel Smotrich

MK Betzalel Smotrich won the chairmanship of the National Union faction Monday night.

Smotrich earned the right to lead what will be a merged group that includes the remnants of Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) and possibly others as well. into the next elections.

Members of the central committee chose Smotrich over his contender, Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel, in a vote of 83-40, with 123 out of 129 members participating.

The group resumed voting, to choose a list of candidates standing for the Knesset election.
