‘Injustice Ministry’ Clears Police for Using Stun Gun on Settler

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

The so-called Justice Ministry of Israel has cleared the police in its use of an electric Taser gun to arrest Boaz Albert, even though he was lying on the floor at the time and presented no clear and present danger to officers trying to arrest him in his home in Yitzhar, in northern Samaria.

His crime? His presence in the family home contravened an order barring him from Yitzhar.

His other crime is that he is a settler. You know who they are – illegitimate Jews who live where their ancestors once lived but where the Obama administration says is reserved for Arabs.

The internal investigation by the ministry admitted that police used the Taser gun “only” twice and that a video documenting the arrest was edited to fake the police brutality and use of electric shocks through Albert’s body.

Albert’s crime, besides being a settler, is that he was resisting arrest by lying on the floor. Mind you, he did not assault any police officer and did not try to harm them, as the video clearly shows.

“Based on the investigation of the incident, Israel Police Special Patrol Unit forces used the Taser weapon on Albert in only two incidents during the arrest,” said the report.

The probe supported the police officers’ use of electric shocks because Albert did not obey the police.

For that sin, he was drilled with electric shocks. The ministry’s probe concluded that Albert resisted arrest and fled to his children’s room while his family tried to bring in reinforcements to foil the arrest.

Resisting arrest is indeed a crime, but let’s compare it with other crimes for which Taser guns are used in the United States.

A quick Google search today of police using the weapons comes up with these headlines:

“Police fired a Taser gun to bring a ‘mad’ illegal fighting dog under control after the animal attacked a man” in Britain;

“Gardaí [police] have used force to gain access to a house in Co Laois [in Ireland] where a stand-off with a man armed with a knife had been ongoing since just before midday. A Taser gun was used to subdue the man”;

“Sheriff’s deputies facing a suicidal man who pretended to have a handgun used a Taser to subdue him behind their Lakeside strip mall office Thursday night” near San Diego;

“An Aberdeen [Maryland] man who allegedly had suspected cocaine in his possession was subdued with a stun gun by Aberdeen police last week after he allegedly tried to flee while being arrested, according to charging documents.”

Albert was not suspected of using cocaine or any other drugs. His crime was violating an administrative order, and the Justice Ministry whitewashed the complaints against police by saying it is perfectly okay to send electric shocks through the body of a settler who does not like being arrested but did not react violently.

The United Nations Committee against Torture reports that the use of Tasers can be a form of torture, due to the acute pain they cause, and warns against the possibility of death in some cases.

Violent Riot Police Extract Settler from Home in Under 5 Hrs.

Wednesday, September 25th, 2013

Around 8:30 PM Tuesday, after four and a half hours of hard work, a force from the Home Front Command managed to break through the locking construction set up by Boaz Albert, Hakol Hayehudi reported.

Albert is a resident of Yitzhar, a Jewish town in Samaria, south of Sh’chem. An executive order has been issued against him by the military, to stay out of Yitzhar, an order which Albert was defying. And to make good on his defiance, Albert locked himself up with this iron gizmo, making it impossible to remove him without cutting off parts of his body – something even our violent riot police does not do.

Dozens of riot police (their official name, YaSaM, stands for “special patrol unit”) showed up at the Albert home at 4 PM Tuesday, surrounding the home and fighting through the crowd of locals and additional supporters who had arrived in a long caravan of cars. The riot police did what riot police do everywhere, from Istanbul, Turkey to Oakland, California: beat the daylights out of unarmed civilians and sprayed hot pepper into their faces.

A woman and a 9-year-old boy were among the more severely beaten. Police and civilians also exchanged rocks and eggs (civilians) for stun grenades and tear gas (police). The locals also sprayed the cops with water, it being the eve of Hoshana Rabba, when we pray for water for the entire year. In fact, throughout the event the locals continued to sing holiday songs and raising wine glasses from the Albert family vinyard.

Our friends at Women in Green sent out a press release calling on the government to stop persecuting Boaz Albert and to devote the vast resources spent on tearing him away from his home to look for the Arab terrorists who’ve been murdering soldiers recently.

Boaz Albert has become the cause célèbre of the National religious camp after an incident in August in which riot cops showed up in his house and tasered him several times while hauling him out – despite the fact that Albert was passive and offered no active resistance. That unmitigated cruelty marked a new low in the behavior of Israel’s riot goon squad, and received condemnations from politicians, including from the left.

All this attention also made Albert a favorite target of the riot police, whose career paths may have suffered on account of that August night of electric shocks. Hence the repeated attempts to force Albert to comply with the executive order – and the persistent resistance on the part of Albert and the Jews of Judea and Samaria.

Mind you, the executive order was not issued – back in the winter of 2006 – for things Boaz Albert (and 18 others) have done. It states that the group of 19 settlers are forbidden to enter Judea and Samaria because the GSS, based on “solid intelligence,” believes each one of them is likely to “act clandestinely and violently against Arabs and Arab property.”

The GSS and the riot police tend to make everything personal, and to them making sure this settler is kept away from his home and his family is far more important than chasing after killer Arabs. Angry and brutal – two qualities they prize in cops in hotspots like Moscow and Kuala Lumpur – mark Israel’s special police unit’s treatment of Israeli Jews. They are a stain on Israel’s democracy, much like that executive order that punishes a man for things he will probably do in the future.

The Time to Stop Netanyahu Is Now

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

I watched the video of the violent arrest of Yitzhar resident Boaz Albert with deep shock. It looks like the government is planning the following strategy of “mental preparation” in advance of the results of the Israeli-Palestinians peace negotiations: trampling and negating the basic protest rights of the residents of Judea and Samaria as a precursor to expulsion or abandonment.

The ministers and Knesset members from all political camps must demand Boaz Albert’s immediate release and the immediate dismissal of the commander of this brutal arrest. The political debate must be conducted with respect for the civil and human rights of every individual. Government violence, which begins with administrative orders against Jewish citizens – distancing a person from his home, family and work without trial – will ultimately lead to more horrific pictures similar to the ones we saw of the brutal arrest of a person in front of his small children and cruel physical abuse perpetrated against him with a Taser.

I turn to the representatives of the national camp with a special request: The time has come to place a stop sign in the path of this government. A government cannot be called “nationalist,” and there is no reason for its existence, if it is transferring Israeli sovereignty on the Temple Mount to the Jordanians, releasing terrorists, negotiating with those whose declared goal is the destruction of the state of Israel, and trampling the most basic rights of Jews like Boaz Albert. The time to stop the march off the cliff is now – not when it is too late.

I am not calling on anyone to resign. On the contrary, it is imperative to use all the political power that we have to forge a new direction and to compel the “nationalist” government to carry out the policies that it was elected to implement. The vote on the budget, a powerful tool for leverage, was already wasted. But at this stage we must use all the political power that the national camp has, including obstruction of the government and Knesset’s work so that it will not be business as usual for Netanyahu.

Netanyahu must be stopped now. The red line has already been crossed. Any lingering makes the national camp a partner in these crimes and erodes its ability to stand against the program being led by the prime minister – as we experienced with former prime minister Ariel Sharon.

The Shomron Settler’s Committee is selling wine made by Boaz Albert in order to financially help him and his family. I will be buying 52 bottles of his most expensive wine – one for each Shabbat of the year. I urge you to buy Albert’s wine as well, and to do your part to help him weather this storm. This is the link to the order form.

We are all in this together and must help each other. Here’s to am Yisrael, which can be proud to have a son like Boaz Albert.

Israel Police Ban Taser Guns Until Further Notice

Sunday, August 18th, 2013

In response to the shocking video of Israeli police repeatedly zapping a passive, non-resisting Boaz Albert with a Taser gun, police chief Yochanan Danino has ordered a temporary halt to the use of the weapon.

Danino has ordered the review of the weapon and how the police use it. Until the review is completed, all use of the weapon is frozen.

The decision was made after the court determined that there was absolutely no need for the massive and repeated use of the Taser gun on Thursday by the police against the helpless victim.

Leftist Leader Appalled by Police Gratuitous Tasing of Settler (Video)

Saturday, August 17th, 2013

“How can you be nauseated when you watch the riot police using the taser again and again on the settler Boaz Albert who’s lying on the floor screaming in pain,” writes on her Facebook page MK Zehava Gal-On, chair of the left wing Meretz party, who has no love lost for the settlement movement. But the level of abuse and brutality on the part of the police in this case has cut through political dividing lines.

A video produced and distributed by the Yitzhar outpost spokesperson’s office shows local resident Boaz Albert being subdued by a team of policemen who arrested him for breaking an administrative restraining order banning him from setting foot in the settlement.

His wife and children are living there. He sneaked in to see them. Somebody called the cops.

In the video, police barge into Albert’s home, the screen goes dark and we hear him screaming in pain. Then a police officer is seen holding a stun gun and threatening to use it against Albert who is begging not to be tasered again, crying out that he’s emphatically not resisting arrest—while one of the cops is saying:”Electricute him already.” Then four police carry Albert out in a manner that could not possibly enable him to resist them – then, in the dark we hear him screaming in agony as some cop apparently shot him full of volts just for the fun of it.

“There is no justification in the world for using this cruel weapon on a man who is not acting violently and does not present danger to the four cops who hover over him and who could easily arrest him without a problem.”

Gal-On said that she is fighting for the rights of settlers against police abuse, just as she’s fighting on behalf of Palestinians who are arrested without trial. She called on the right to join her in condemning both kinds of police violations of people’s civil rights.

Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar of “Women in Green” also condemned the “scandalous arrest of Boaz Albert, a resident of Yitzhar, a father of six, in a violent military operation in which security forces shot him and his brother with iron arrows from a Taser gun and wounded him. All this because of Albert’s ‘crime’ of refusing to obey the immoral and anti-democratic edict of expulsion that was given him.”

The Women in Green contend that “these expulsion orders are used solely against Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria and not against Arab stone-throwers nor against the European anarchists that attack soldiers.”

Katsover and Matar call on the “Eretz Israel” lobby MKs to intervene in the case. Meanwhile, Albert has been set free by a district court judge in Lod on friday afternoon.

A demonstration is planned for 10 PM israel time, in the Beit El area, to protest police cruelty against Boaz Albert.
