In this week’s parsha, we go through lists and lists of animals – but why is there is no mention of dinosaurs, and other prehistoric animals, in the Torah? Did they just never make it onto the boat? In this week’s video, Rabbi Fohrman argues that when we ask questions like these, we misunderstand the fundamental nature of the Torah as our guidebook.

  1. It has always seemed to me that the creation timeline (which indeed mentions the progression of life from the seas to the land in which the dinosaurs are an integral part) is the foundation of the evolution timeline. Man can dither narrative, but not change the substance or truth of G-d’s works.

  2. Johannes Lee Nielsen I do not think it is intentional. That is why I told you. If uncertain, just “the Bible”. Job is part of the Ketuvim, the writings. The Bible as a whole is the Tenakh. I apologize if my tone was rude.

  4. Joshua Harris, What you cal the Torah, we call the first five books of the old testament. They are not different. Christians just dont
call the first five books the Torah. We call al rhe boooks the old trstsment. We divide into grouos. Such as the prophets, the laws. Geneology, and just like this said, we see them as many srories also. Get over how different we all think. Actually, on a lot of things we think just the same, sorry if that offends you..

  5. So Joshua Harris, just to be clear. Maybe I didnt understand. Jews dont read the books like Exodus, , Numbers, Psalms, Job, Levitus, etc ? Is that what you are referring too? I thought they did. Humm,

  6. Oh Joshua Harris, I see your answer down below. We call it the Old Testament which is rude because Jews call the books under different labels. Nope, hristians wouldnt kmkw those names or labels, We just call it all the Old Testament but we hold it as the spiritual word of God, inspired by God. It is still held Holy in our eyes. So we never would ever disrespect it.

  7. Sorry my mind just keeps wondering on this subject. But according to this rabbi the torah seems to be not just the 5 first books. But all of the books. Someone tell me, please. What exactly are the books in the Torah. Im confused. I find this site very educational. Thanks

  8. So, the Torah is now only a “guide book. Actually, its a HISTORICAL record of creation and the origin of all living creatures, including humans. And the HISTORICAL record of the nation of Israel. The Torah also mentions dinosaurs, including the fact that creatures of that category are still living today, crocks All you need to do is go to the website creation.com and type “dinosaurs” into the search engine.

  16. The Torah technically is the five books from Genesis to Deuteronomy. Then comes Prophets and then Writings (through Chronicles). Together these are called Tanakh, which combines the first letter of each of these in Hebrew. However, when we say we are studying Torah, we often mean we are studying ANY of this, using Torah as an overall term for meaningful study. We actually don’t think the same on most things related to theology, but that doesn’t mean that ideally someone who believes in the essential goodness of creation isn’t a good person regardless of how that person arrived at that belief.

  17. Martha. What I meant was it startswith crarion of man and the world. Then you have Noah, then Moses and the exodus. The stories of the kings and the wars between them. The prophets, etc. You have genological lines. I thought it was all about the life of the Jewish people in order of events in their lives, i guess.

  20. You show a profound lack of understanding of the vocabulary involved. I suggest googling it or using Wikipedia as I doubt that any further discourse would be fruitful at this time.

  22. The dinosaurs was probably on the Art The Bible does not say what kind of animals were on it. Just how many of each kind. But they were here after the flood. The Bible speaks of them. Th tent of the first tabernacle was make with the skin of 1 (one) animal. So, the animal had to have been huge..
