IDF soldiers foiled an attempted terror attack by a Palestinian Authority Arab terrorist Monday at the Tapuach junction in Samaria (Shomron), north of Jerusalem.

The terrorist attempted to stab a Border Guard Police officer who was standing guard at the junction, approximately the same location where a Palestinian Arab terrorist stabbed another soldier this past Saturday.

“A short while ago a Palestinian suspect approached the forces guarding the Tapuach junction, asking for help and medical assistance,” the IDF spokesperson’s unit explained in an SMS text statement to media.

“When he got within a close range of the forces, he pulled out a knife and attempted to stab an officer. The officer was lightly injured and managed to fight off the assailant. The forces on site responded immediately, firing towards the attacker.”

The terrorist reportedly died of his wounds, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Shomron Regional Council Yossi Dagan responded to the event with a strong statement of appreciation to the military and a call for the government to publicly support security forces as they enforce law and order in Judea and Samaria.

“We thank the security forces for their swift action,” Dagan said. “I call upon the prime minister to publicly support the soldiers for their decisive moves that without doubt saved the the lives of many — both civilians and soldiers — who were present at the scene [of the attack.]”
