Guns seized from smugglers at Mizmoriya crossing checkpoint near Jerusalem

Officers with the Border Guard Police and Military Police Border Control division prevented smugglers from transporting weapons from Judea and Samaria into Jerusalem on Monday.

The officers were stationed at the Mizmoriya crossing when they spotted a suspicious vehicle that arrived at the checkpoint.

When the driver was asked for identification, it was discovered that he was, in fact, a fugitive wanted for questioning, and without a driver’s license.

A search of the vehicle turned up two guns, FN pistols, and a Beretta, all of which were removed from the car. Five suspects from Sur Baher were arrested and held for further questioning by security personnel, including one minor and four individuals in their 20s.

“Due to the vigilance and professionalism of the Border Police fighters and fighters of the Crossings unit, weapons were seized and thus the public was protected,” said a spokesperson for Israel Police. “Border Guard Police officers and security personnel will continue to operate throughout the year at the crossings around the Jerusalem Envelope to protect the public.”
