The terrorist shouted “Allahu Akbar!” (God is Great, the Islamic war cry) and lunged at a Border Guard Police officer stationed near the entrance to the Temple Mount, at the Cotton Gate entrance to the Old City, brandishing what appeared to be a knife.

It was later discovered that he was not brandishing a knife.

Israeli forces on the scene shot the attacker, a man in his 20s who lives in the Palestinian Authority, seriously wounding him. He was taken in critical condition to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in the city.

There were no injuries reported among Israeli forces.

Three days ago, an Arab terrorist stabbed a Border Guard Police officer at the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City. The attacker was shot but not killed by security forces at the scene.

The 24-year-old police officer was taken to nearby Hadassah Mt. Scopus Medical Center in fair and stable condition.

That same day, an armed Arab terrorist jumped the security fence around the Gush Etzion Jewish community of Tekoa.

A member of the Tekoa security force whose home was being targeted by the terrorist opened fire and shot the attacker, killing him.
