Much of What You Think You Know about Islam Is Wrong (Video)

A Response to an Antisemitic Video of Egyptian Cleric Mahmoud Al-Masri.

Sinem Tezyapar

Editor’s Note: Some of the terminology used by this Muslim author to describe the relationship between God and people is foreign to us. Notions of God “cursing” people for their actions have long been cast off by our own Rabbinic tradition. But restraint and openness are essential if we are to admit into our intellectual environment Muslim voices that seek to dialog with us. In your comments, we encourage you to challenge any point you wish. But we ask that you not denigrate the character, honesty, sincerity and courage of Ms. Tezyapar.

This article is a response to antisemitic notions common among some Muslims, and expressed in a vile video made by Egyptian Cleric Mahmoud Al-Masri.

Yori Yanover

It is important for people to understand the context of the verses and hadiths regarding the Jews, and it is particularly important for Muslims to understand them properly. Taking verses or hadiths out of context leads not only to poor understanding, it leads to prejudicial attitudes and outright hatred of people who have done nothing wrong. Perhaps even worse is the hypocrisy of those who wish to impose their extremist views by selecting particular verses and hadiths and deliberately distorting the meaning.

Thus it is important to stand against such despicable tactics and to speak out when these are used as a way of incitement. Here are a few of the main examples that cause a prejudiced mindset among many and are frequently misused as political propaganda by certain Islamic groups.

Why It Is a False Statement to Say Jews Are Cursed or Apes According to Islam?

Those Muslims who say “All Jews are cursed” are mistaken. They do not understand the Qur’an. They do not pay attention to the provisions in the Qur’an and interpret it only superficially. Yet if they read the verses with care, they would know that God would never issue an unjust commandment.

Every child is born innocent; this is a fundamental aspect of Islamic theology. How can a child be born cursed? Such a claim is incompatible with God’s justice. Such people are ignorant of the existence and attributes of God. They think that God could commit such an injustice. They think a child can be born cursed for reasons beyond its control, cursed for no crime, and that no matter what it does it can never escape that curse. This has nothing to do with Islam. To expect such injustice from God means to truly not understand Him. No true believer in God could ever say this. In the Qur’an

God says:

“They said ‘Our hearts are wrapped up in covers.’ Nay, God has cursed them for their disbelief. Little is that which they believe.” (Qur’an, 2:88)

They have obviously failed to pay attention to what is set out in the verse. Why does God curse people? For disbelief. If someone denies God’s commandments and does not repent, and if God does not forgive him, he will go to hell; that person is already cursed. God imposes the condition of denial. God does not say ‘I have cursed every Jew, I regard them as cursed en masse.’ He says He curses people who deny Him. Some people who have set themselves up as hodjas and scholars misunderstand this and use it as anti-Jewish propaganda. In another verse, God informs the crimes of some people from the community of the Prophet Moses:

“And for their covenant we raised over them (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai); and (on another occasion) we said: ‘Enter the gate with humility’; and (once again) we commanded them: ‘Transgress not in the matter of the sabbath.’ And we took from them a solemn covenant. (They have incurred divine displeasure): In that they broke their covenant; that they rejected the signs of God; that they slew the Messengers in defiance of right; that they said, ‘Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve God’s Word; We need no more)’;- Nay, God hath set the seal on their hearts for their blasphemy, and little is it they believe.” (Qur’an, 4:154-155)

Yet all the things listed in these verses are crimes. God lists those actions that are unlawful. People are cursed because of these, and those who commit them in any case go to hell. What about the provision regarding people who do not do these? Why should they be cursed? God imposes these conditions and says that people who do these things are cursed.

God also speaks of the existence of believers. Believers are obviously not cursed. God does not regard people as cursed if they abide by His commandments. People who are immoral, who are cruel or declare war on God’s commandments are cursed. People who do these things in any case go to hell. There are also Muslims who will go to hell. If they disobey God’s commandments, then they go to hell, and they are cursed. It is wrong to ascribe this to the Jews alone, or to interpret it in such a way as to apply only to Jews. God regards all those who declare war on His commandments as cursed. Many people misunderstand this.

The Qur’an refers to the community of the Prophet Moses who must abide by the Torah. God sometimes mentions their crimes and sometimes their good acts. For instance, in one verse we are informed about the existence of righteous Jews as such:

“Of the people of Moses there is a section who guide and do justice in the light of truth.” (Qur’an, 7:159)

This is actually very similar to the threat of a curse in the Torah. God explains the potential curses in great detail in Deuteronomy, chapter 28 if they don’t obey the His commandments and the reason for this curse is stated as such:

“However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all His commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country… All these curses will come upon you… because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees He gave you…” (Deuteronomy, 28:15-45)

Furthermore some Muslims unwisely say that all Jews are apes based on this verse:

“When they disregarded the warnings that had been given them, We rescued those who forbade Evil; but We visited the wrong-doers with a grievous punishment because they were given to transgression. When in their insolence they transgressed (all) prohibitions, We said to them: ‘Be ye apes, despised and rejected.’” (Qur’an, 7:165-166)

However, God says that they are cursed if they rebel or insist on doing something they should not. God does not call people apes if they do not rebel against His commandments but some Muslims fail to understand this and say Jews are all humiliated like apes. God does not say this unless they rebel against Him.

It is also important to remember that God curses people because of their denial. If a Muslim stands in denial, then he is cursed as well. This is a valid statement for all people, and thus Muslims are also addressed in these verses. To present this as a curse on all Jews or calling them all apes is against the Qur’an. Most of those who say such things are mistaken and they expound on these verses falsely. However the verses are more than clear, and God discriminates between innocent people and those regarded as cursed, and He explains the conditions of what causes some to be cursed in a clear and straightforward manner.

Why It Is a False Statement to Say Jews Are the Army of Dajjal (Anti-Messiah) According to Islam?

People keep asking me if Islam is as I say, then why there is so much hatred and violence among the Muslims. And the answer is given by the Prophet of Islam 1,400 years ago. He reveals the hypocrisy prevalent in the Muslim community in the End Times as such:

“Such a time will befall my community that rulers will be oppressive and scholars will be avaricious and without fear of Allah, those who worship will be hypocritical…” (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 23, p. 22)

In another hadith (saying of Prophet Mohammed) he says:

“People will spring up in the End Times: but their brains will not function. They will speak fine words when they. The will read the Qur’an, but their faith will go no further than their throats…” (Buhari, 3611, 5057, 6930, Muslim, 1066, Abu Dawud 4767, Ahmed ibn Hanbal, Musnad 1, 81, 113, 131, 289; Al-Tayalisi, al-Musnad, no. 1984.)

So it is clear that people will read the Qur’an but not think and live according to the teachings of the Qur’an. This is what I call the religion of the bigots. They implement a faith they have largely invented themselves under the name of Islam. And in this faith there is hatred, violence, darkness. These people who follow the religion of bigotry are the enemies of beauty, art, aesthetics and science as well as women, children etc. They attach no value to human beings and their hearts are far removed from love or compassion.

This is why their life and spirit contradicts the Qur’an concerning love, peace, affection, brotherhood and unity; and the Qur’an encourages beauty, art and science. They only speak hostility and they espouse bloodshed in the name of Islam, spread hatred toward Christians, Jews and even other Muslims. These loveless, misguided people are most definitely not Muslims, but bigots or radicals -however you would like to name them. And this is why we also see hatred for Jews in their mindset.

In Islamic eschatology, there is a hadith that the dajjal (anti-messiah/anti-christ) will come and will be followed by 70,000 Jews.

“Seventy thousand people from the Jews of Isfahan with turbans and gowns will follow the antichrist.” (Muslim, At-Taj Ali Nasif al-Husayn, vol. 5, p. 627)

Based on this hadith, some people who present themselves as Muslim clerics falsely claim that all Jews will be the army of the dajjal, in other words anti-messiah. It goes without saying that this hadith is not referring to each and every Jewish man, woman or child. It is referring specifically only to some who are against God’s way. Like many things from the Qur’an and hadiths, this particular example has been taken out of context and used by extremists to justify their desire to commit wanton slaughter.

However there is an apparent evidence to this hypocrisy. In another hadith, Prophet Mohammed says that “Seventy thousand scholars from my community, all wearing turbans, will follow the dajjal [anti-messiah].” (Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Musnad, p. 796)

In referring to the people who will follow the anti-messiah in the hadith, Prophet Muhammed speaks in particular of those who are from the Islamic community and what is more, he draws attention to the ones who regard themselves as scholars.

The army of the anti-messiah will emerge from every religion, and they will constitute bigots who seek to damage their own faiths and the world. Among them there will be Muslims, Jews, Christians and others who are insincere in their faith and who are removed from God’s will. As a matter of fact, backwardness, fanaticism and bigotry is a real threat to Islam as well as to all humanity. Prophet Mohammed himself also warns against this threat:

“My community will be destroyed because of evil scholars and ignorant servants.” (Darimi)

And in another one he says:

“Such a time will come that scholars will be an element of mischief.” (Abu Nuaim)

These statements are all talking about the corruption and mischief among the Muslim community. The harm done by some religious scholars is highly destructive to be sure because they lead many ignorant people astray with their false teachings. And just as it was in history, to this day they are largely responsible for the disasters that have befallen Islamic states.

Mahdi (King Messiah) Will Surely Not Kill Jews:

These people who misuse the hadiths while referring to Jews as an army of the anti-messiah also claim that the Mahdi will kill all the Jews. This is far from the truth. This anti-Jewish hatred does not reflect anything about Islam.

First of all, the Mahdi that Muslims are waiting is the same holy person that the Jews are waiting for as King Messiah and this leader’s attributes are similar in both Islamic and Judaic accounts. The Mahdi will govern the world through love, not through war. He is someone who avoids war, a man of peace, who is full of love and compassion for all humanity. The way he will operate is described as follows in the hadith:

In the time of [Mahdi/King Messiah] no one will be woken up from their sleep or have a bleeding nose. (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi ‘Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 44)

“People will seek refuge in the Mahdi [King Messiah] as honey bees cluster around their sovereign. He will fill the world that was once full of cruelty with justice. His justice will be as such that he will not wake a sleeping person not even one drop of blood is shed. The earth will return to the age of happiness.” (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi ‘Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 29 and 48)

“Enmity and hatred between people will cease… Like the cup fills with water, so will earth fill with peace… There will be religious unity. Nobody but Allah will be worshiped. War will put down its burden.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, 10:334)

The climate of peace in the time of King Messiah -the Mahdi- is described very similarly in the Judaic scriptures:

“… In the last days… He [the Lord]… will settle disputes for many peoples… Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” (Isaiah, 2:2-4; Micah, 4:1-3)

“… Burn them [the weapons] up—the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears… They will use them for fuel… declares the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel, 39:9-10)

Consequently it is not only false information that the Mahdi will kill Jews, but it is also against Islamic theology in every way, shape and form. “Not one drop of blood will be shed” is an indisputable expression and thus the Mahdi will not shed the blood of anyone from any religion.

  1. Thank You for establishing a humane minority opinion in Islam. I know there are also a few other Islamic thinkers that agree with you.

The majority opinion among scholars and politicians is quite widespread.

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s 2010 description of Jews as “the descendants of apes and pigs,”.

A few years back, Sheik Tantawi — then possibly the most influential religious leader in Sunni Islam and honored in many Western circles as a moderate — also denounced the Jews as “the enemies of Allah, the descendants of apes and pigs.” (He’s an expert of sorts; his doctoral dissertation was devoted to identifying the unflattering traits of Jews.)

    * The Hamas charter incorporates verbatim sections from Hitler’s old favorite, “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” a forgery produced in late 1800s by the Czarist secret police.

    * Mahmoud Abbas, the “moderate” Palestinian Authority leader, once penned a thesis arguing that Jews — for political purposes — deliberately inflated the Holocaust death toll from 1 million to 6 million.

    * When Malaysia’s former prime minister, Mohammad Mahathir, denounced Jews in vile terms at a conference of top world Muslim leaders, he got a standing ovation and not one word of protest.

    * Iran hosts an annual Holocaust-denial conference.

    * And Saudi-sponsored educational materials loaded with Jew-hatred are distributed worldwide, including at some schools and mosques in the United States, Britain and other Western countries.

  2. Tim Upham says:

It is going to be the leaders, who are covered by the world media, that will be printed and recorded. World Jewry is just going to hear "apes and pigs" just ring in their heads. But the Muslims leaders that say anything different, will just be ignored. I think how many times I have been in ecumenical dialogue with the Muslim community, and how many Muslim nations I have lived in and visited, and was never greeted with hostility at all. But still to World Jewry, the "apes and pigs" will just ring in their heads.

How does any of this fit the circumstances in evidence today? This sweet, rational sounding rhetoric says nothing about a major dilemma for the Muslim community and that is the personality and character of Mohammad as the Islamic world's "perfect" being vs the personality and character of Jesus Christ.

Whether you are religious or not this history cannot be ignored. Was Mohammad a pedophile? Did he engage in necrophilia? Was he directly involved in murdering those who opposed his ascendancy to the status of Prophet? Is he not put forth as the one to be emulated by all Muslims and is that not, in large part, their justification for the violent Jihad and its escalation around the world? The emulation of their prophet?

None of these allegations surrounding the life of Mohammad appear in the historical evidence pertaining to Jesus. Jesus was a Jew and is one of the three pillars of the trinity that together form the foundation of Christianity. By all accounts His was a life of chastity, devotion, peace, love, tolerance, forgiveness and compassion for all of humanity.

In my (a layman's) view the contrast between the history of these two men is at the root of the contrast between the Judeo/Christian and Muslim cultures and the turmoil that exists around the world now.

Islam and its official interpretation in the Islamic world has created a Muslim culture mired in the 7th century, a fanaticism that is committed to achieving Islamic hegemony by converting, subjugating or murdering every adherent of any belief system other than Islam. These are not "Fanatics who've hijacked a religion." These are Muslims who have the most literal interpretation of the foundational documents that define Islam, Allah and the prophet, Mohammad.

The most disturbing fact concerning this existential dispute is the unlikelihood of it ever being resolved by reason or by ignoring its root causes as is the predominant approach in the West today. The West is mired in the misguided platitudes of diversity and multi-culturalism uber alles. Until the West recognizes that Islam is the threat, not western Imperialism or Islamophobia or bigotry, or racism or any other “ism” the West can invent to justify and accept Islamic militancy and indulge in self flagellation over some intellectually derived, ill conceived, imaginary offense that, if corrected, will mollify the Islamic community who will then love us and leave us alone. Orthodox Muslims hate us, everything about us and the only thing they seek is nothing less than overwhelming, global dominance.

Israel and America, being considered the bastions of western debauchery and evil, are high on their list of adversaries. “Little and big Satan.” They can grovel, appease and accommodate ad-nauseum or recognize the threat, discard the existing rules of engagement and react to violent Jihad, wherever it occurs in the west, with the only deterrent they'll understand, massive retaliation where they live. The “Hearts and Minds” strategy has been tried and, after over ten years, what's been the result? Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and the Middle East are roiling with turmoil and increasing violence while the leader of the free world declares Osama bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda has been decimated. Really?

Appeasement, extending an olive branch, etc. are the desired, civilized means to settle disputes between two or more adversaries. Unfortunately, like most solutions based on a benign, Utopian view of human nature, it only works when all the parties desire a peaceful, bloodless solution. The West can continue to pursue its Utopian dream or recognize that 21st century civilization is a long way from that idealistic vision.

  5. Daniel Greenfield says:

“The Last Hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews. The Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: ‘Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him;’ but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.”.

(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Fitan wa Ashrat as-Sa'ah, Book 41, 6985).

  6. And that ringing in the head will be used and exploited by Jewish "Leaders" to try to keep Jews from meeting Muslims and forming friendships, alliances, and, God willing, peace.

  7. Too much information. Why do I have to study the Koran to understand why Jews are not descended from apes and pigs!

  8. False Hadith, fabricated, and totally irrelevant, Im sorry to say but so are your comments, who instead of uniting people to into peace, they call for hate!

  9. Where do you get your facts from?

Any empiric studies, or they only represent your hateful thought toward Muslims.

Who says "your arguments represent the major Muslim dilemma?

What do you base that on?

Where do you take your information on Muhammed peace be upon him, and Jesus peace be upon him?

Read Karen Amstrong's book on Muslims and Muhammed peace be upon him.

We are protecters of Jews, just like we have shown in Prophet's time peace be upon him, during the Andalusian time, during the Ottoman time, when the Jews were slaughtered and chased out of European Spain and dring WW2, when my country Albania saved all the Jews, and was the only European country (Muslim by Majority) who had an increase of the Jewish population during WW2.

Please unite, and stop spreading hate and propaganda

  10. Yori Yanover says:

Why do we study anything? To understand the world around us. If we stay inside our echo chamber we may feel self righteous, but that won't help us grow as thinkers. Curiosity is the foundation of intellectual development.

The members of Sanhedrin had to speak many languages and be fluent with arts such as witchcraft, to better understand the world around them — so that their understanding of themselves would also grow.

  11. By focusing on some false hadiths we cannot come to a peaceful resolution. When we want to see if a hadith is true/authentic or not, we look at the Quran and compare the hadith with the commandments of the Quran. If they are compatible then the hadith is authentic, if not, it is a fabrication of some radicals/bigots.

  12. Dear Chaya, as a Muslim I study the Torah and the Gospel as well as the Psalms because they are the word of Almighty Allah (God) as well. And I find loads of similarities with the Quran and this makes my opinion that we are indeed brothers and sisters much firmer. We need to be in peace with one another and love one another for a better world.

  13. Liad Bar-el says:

Temple Mount, Jerusalem not in Quran; therefore, all Muslims should get out of Jerusalem immediately and pay for all damages done to our priceless antiquities of which all the gold on the dome of al-Aqsa Mosque will not pay for. If Turkey is to be the spiritual center for all, then all Muslims should vacate Israel completely, donate all buildings to the Jews as well as donate all oil imports to Israel. Muslims should pay for all damages they did to the Holy Land as well as for loss of life to all Jews. Then present yourselves as serious individuals to talk peace. Until then, you can follow your prophet Mohammed's advice and drink Camel urine.

  14. Yehuda Cohen says:

As I read in another site: "Look at Mohammad life. In the koran it says clearly to kill non believers where you seem. Beating your wives , sex slaves , lying are all permitted. If decide to leave islam and become an apostate you will be subjected to death. Mohammad had ordered the killings young boys and men numbering 900. He married a young child age of 6 and married his step son's wife because he told them its was an instruction from Allah."

  15. Cheryl Suzette Owings says:

Very good article from a thinking person.

  16. Ali Ismail says:

Minority opinion? you obviously don't know what you're talking about her opinion is in fact mainstream but of course people like you don't want to hear it.

  17. Hi Gorkem, your point is well taken. I have always said that Jews and Muslims are close relatives and that makes the conflict intra-familiar and thus very intense.

I also believe that Muslims and Jews pray to the One and Only G-d. You call Him Allah. We call Him a name that I'm not allowed to write or even pronounce, Ado-shem. And yes, King David's psalms are a gift and a comfort to all of humanity although I must admit that I never knew that Muslims say them.

But here our paths diverge. And I realize it is politically incorrect to say this: I believe there is no prophet like Moses. There never was and never will be. And I believe that the Torah is not the product of a human mind. The more one studies it the more one becomes aware of that.

So unless I am studying comparative religion I believe there is no efficacy in studying the Gospel or the Quran. No offense intended.

I believe that there will be peace in what you call Palestine and we call Israel. The name "Yeru-shalayim" (Jerusalem) means "They will see peace." May it be speedily and in our days.

  18. Jews don't have a problem flying to Tehran and Beirut to meet with holocaust deniers (Neturei Karta, Chomsky), so who is going to stop them meeting moderate muslims?? Besides Half of world jewry live in Israel where the population is 20% muslim. The vast majority of leaders who use the "apes and pigs" line to discourage a meeting of jews and muslims are muslim (mis)leaders.

  19. It is not totally irrelevant when so many self-proclaimed muslims not only consider this hadith to be gospel but also act on it.

  20. Umut Aslanerler says:

Thank You very much Sinem Tezyapar, it is great Article, I wish you best.

  21. Yehuda Cohen says:

The Quran is a book of hate.
Quran Surah 8, verse 60 “Prepare for them whatever force and cavalry yes are able of gathering to strike terror to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies, of Allah and your enemies.” Example: destruction of WTC and 3,000 people murdered. Muslim leaders, Imams, stated “What makes Allah happy? Allah is happy when non-Muslims get killed. Annihilate the infidels and the polytheists. Your (Allah’s) enemies and the enemies of the religion. Allah, count them and kill them to the last one, and don’t leave even one.”.

Quran Surah 4, verse 56 “Those who have disbelieved our signs, we shall roast them in fire whenever their skins are cooked to a turn, we shall substitute new skins for them that they may feel the punishment: verily Allah is sublime and wise.” Muslim leaders stated: “If Allah permits us, oh Nation of Mohammed, even the stone will say, ‘Oh Muslim, a Jew is hiding behind me, come and cut off his head. And we shall cut off his head! By Allah, we shall cut it off! All Jews! Allahu Akbar! (Allah is great) Jihad for the sake of Allah! Victory to Allah!”.

A little Muslim girl was interviewed: What is your name (Question-Q)? She said (Answer-A) Basmallah. Q: Bashmallah, how old are you? A: Three and a half. Q: Are you a Muslim? A: yes Q: Basmallah, are you familiar with the Jews? A: yes Q: Because they are what? A: They’re apes and pigs. Because they are apes and pigs. Q: Who said they are so? A: Allah Q: Where did he say this? A: In the Koran.

Quran Surah 47, verse 4 “Therefore, when yes meet the unbeliever, smite at their necks and yes have caused a bloodbath among them bind a bond firmly on them.” Mohammed B published a hit list to murder certain people one of which was Theo van Gogh. After the murder, Mohammed B stated: “If I had the opportunity to get out of prison, and I had the opportunity to do it again, what I did on November 2nd, Allah, I would have done exactly the same.” On the Iqra TV, Saudi Arabia, Muslim leader states: “Throats must be slit and skulls must be shattered. This is the path to victory.” Jewish reporter Dan Pearlman was slaughtered on video.

Quran Surah 4, verse 89 “They but wish that yes should reject faith as they do, and thus be on the same footing as they, so take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah. But if they turn renegades, seize them and ill them wherever yes find them and take no friends or helpers from their ranks.”.

Quran Surah 8, verse 39 “Fight them until there is no dissension and the religion is entirely Allah’s.” Muslim leaders state: “Islam is a religion that wants to rule the world. It has done so before and eventually will rule it again.” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran stated: “The message of the Islamic Revolution is global, and is not restricted to a specific place or time. Have no doubt…Allah willing, Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world.”.
Other Muslim leaders stated: “We have ruled the world before, and by Allah, the day will come when we will rule the entire world again! The day will come when we will rule America. The day will come when we will rule Britain and the entire world! Allah commanded us to spread this religion worldwide. We will take over Britain, America and Europe! Muslims will defeat them all! You will get victory! You will take over Egypt! We trust in Allah!” Public demonstrations are held with signs reading “Islam will dominate the world.”, “Freedom go to Hell”.

It is not up to me but to Muslims themselves to tear out the hateful verses from the Quran. Muslims want you to make way for Islam but Islam does not make way for you. The Government insists that you respect Islam, but Islam has no respect for you. Islam wants to rule, submit and seeks to destroy western civilization. In 1945, Nazism was defeated in Europe. In 1989, Communism was defeated in Europe. Now, the Islamic ideology has to be defeated. STOP ISLAMISATION. Defend our freedom.

Good point, Yehuda. Islamisation is happening right here in the Jewish Press and there are people falling for it.

  23. Thank you for this great article Miss Sinem Tezyapar. Because of the biggots there are lots of misunderstaning about the Islam. Those people spread hatred around themselves under the name of Islam. On the contrary Islam defends the love, peace, unity. It is very important to learn about REAL Islam. With ayats and hadiths. Thank you.

  25. Liad Bar-el says:

The Rambam didn't spread hate but rather truth over one who was spreading hate. The Rambam stated that the founder of Islam, Mohammed, was a false prophet and insane as was his predecessor, Jezeus. If you find this hurting and hateful, then it is you who has the problem of recognizing the truth.

  26. Liad Bar-el says:

Ringing in the head to keep Jews from meeting Muslims? Get real.
There was an incident at a Beersheba Hospital involving a Palestinian woman who was burned by her family as suspected of having an affair. She had received skin transplant treatments authorized by Doctor Arie Eldad, chairman of plastic surgery, who is now running for election of the Aztmah L’Israel party. This woman was invited for regular follow up visits to the outpatient clinic in Beersheba. One day she was caught at a border crossing wearing a suicide belt. She meant to explode herself in the outpatient clinic of the hospital where they saved her life. It seems that her family promised her that if she did that, they would forgive her. This is just one insane action out of thousands upon thousands of insane actions learned from their insane leader, Mohammed. If voting Muslims in Israel were sane and wanted peace, they would vote for Arie Eldad.

  34. This article is suitable to convert some one from other religions to Islam; very moderate language, emphasizes that Islam is the peaceful, tolerant, reasonable and loving religion; and its prophet is the prophet of mercy.

In an attempt to polish Islam's image, Muslim activists usually quote verses from the Quran that were written in the early days of the Islamic movement while Mohammed lived in Mecca. What you need to know about Islam is that it has something called the abrogator and the abrogated. Actually, out of 114 Surahs (chapters) of the Quran, there are only 43 Surahs that were not affected by this concept. There are 124 versus that call for tolerance and patience that have been all cancelled and replaced by one, single verse. This verse is called the verse of the sword:
"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever yes find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war)….." Surah 9:5.

You will find in Quran a mix of verses suits every occasion; Jews and Christians could be the people of the book (Torah) or the descendents of apes and pigs. And Muslims are willing to use the extreme verses when they have the upper hand.

  35. . The first lesson of the Holocaust is that the murder of 6 million Jews in 21 nations did not begin with an edict to cast the Jews into the ovens. It began with a policy of demonizing the Jews as if they were less than human. Throughout WWII, the exiled Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, operated out of Hitler's bunker and broadcast on Nazi radio his rantings that called for the murder of the Jews, in the Arabic language…a daily radio message that was beamed to the Middle East, while the Mufti actively recruited Arabs to join SS units that systematically rounded up and executed thousands of Jewish families in the Balkans.

Mahmood Abbas, the leader of what the UN has defined as the State of Palestine, issued a speech in which he praised the legacy of the Mufti of Jerusalem and of a slew of Arabs who have murdered Jews over the past generation. To ignore Abbas's message is to ignore the first lesson of the Holocaust, which is that anyone who glorifies those who murder Jews is to be held culpable in the advocacy of mass murder.

  36. It may be time for a New Jewish DEFENSE League. Morsi is another Hitler in the making. OBAMA JUST GAVE HIM FREE F16 JETS AND LIBERALS THINK ALL IS WELL WITH THE JEWISH WORLD. Israel is surrounded by enemies with nuclear ambitions, a holocaust is in the making. Wake up Jews before it will be too late once again. Rabbi DR. BERNHARD ROSENBERG

  37. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

It's always going to be easy to diminish the significance of peaceable, constructive sentiments like these, by pointing to self serving men who seize on hyperbolic language in the Qur'an to inflame their followers. Every religion is full of opportunists and salesmen. Notwithstanding that: The fact that Ms. Sinem Tezyapar's opinion is a "minority" view is unrelated to the significance of this article. The only question is whether Ms. Tezyapar's interpretation of this "apes and pigs" passage is consonant with the true nature of Islamic theology as laid out in the Qur'an. If her exegesis is the correct one—if the "apes and pigs" labels are attached to people due to unbelief in God, and not based on their ethnicity as Jews, then the only rational response is to acquit Islam of any inherent anti-semitism. There are people in schools all over the world, training to engage in suicidal bombing missions, based on the "majority" interpretation. There are Taliban forces in Afghanistan who never cease to plot evil in the name of Islam. If Ms. Tezyapar's exegesis is correct, then they are all in the wrong. Therefore, EVERYONE, both in- and outside of Islam, needs to support her world. This is why it's especially important for Christians and Jews to about the business of redefining Islam according to it's own definitional statements–to challenge the radicals in theological terms. This is precisely what Ms. Tezapar and her friends in Turkey, Aylin Kocaman, and Ceylan Özbudak are trying to do and for that reason, theirs are among the most important theological missions going today.

  38. Liad Bar-el says:

Joel, I don’t buy your mixed statements of mixed truths with falsehoods even for one moment. The prophet of Islam, Mohammed, was investigated during his life time by one of the most prominent Jewish sages at that time, the Rambam, Rabbi Mosheh Ben Maimon (Maimonides). The Rambam wrote a formal didactic (teaching) letter to the Yemenite Jews in 1172 informing them that Muhammad is a false prophet and insane. He said the same about Yeska. Now, Joel, Islam wants to dominate the world by terror force and/or by testosterone generating beautiful girls talking soft words of peace in your ears. The end result is the same, world dominance of insanity. Insanity breeds insanity. If you have a cure for insanity, then you would be regarded as one none closer to the Mosiach than the Mosiach Himself.

  39. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

@ Liad Bar-elFor our purposes, Liad, the issue is not whether whether Muhammad was a true or a false prophet. The question is whether the Qur'an does or does not teach that Jews are descended from "apes and pigs." Ms. Tezyapar shows that this is not a correct reading of the Qur'an and furthermore, Jesus Himself compared those who mock God's wod to "dogs" and "swine," and He was addressing Jews when He made that statement. Obviously, Jesus was not saying that Jews are dogs and swine. He was saying that those who mock God ar dogs and swine. Sir: since I am a Christian, I wish everyone would receive baptism and and confess Christ, both Ms. Tezyapar, and you, Liad Bar, because I believe the teaching of the Apostles. But the question is not whether Christianity or Judaism or Islam is true. The question which Ms. Sinem Tezyapar is addressing is whether Islam or is not inherently anti-Jewish. Therefore, her explanation from the Qur'an refuting this view is something that serves the cause of peace in the world. That's why you should support it without penalizing her merely because she happens to have a pretty face.

  40. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

@djdacosta I am a Christian and I also have heard terrible things about Muhammad, but those reports, whether they are true or false, do not obscure my ability to engage in rational thought; much less to determine what is or is not RELEVANT to a given question. The issue is not the life, character, or authenticity of Muhammad as a true prophet of God. The issue is whether Islam, as prescribed in the Qur'an, in inimical to Jews; whether it does or does not teach that Jews are descended from apes and pigs; viz. whether the Qur'an teaches people to hate Jews. Ms. Sinem Tezyapar establishes from the text of the Qur'an that those within Islam who preach hatred as a matter of religious faith are in the wrong. Upon my life, I don't understand why Jews would rather attack Islam than reach out to support a Muslim voice that speaks words of concord and peace.

  41. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

@Liad Bar-el Did you just say that Jesus was insane? Tell me I misunderstand you.

  42. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

@ Liad Bar-el I don't understand why you would blame Muhammad for the actions of the woman in your story. The man has been in the grave for 1400 years and I don't think he taught people to requite good with evil.

  43. Joel Stephen Gehrke says:

    Wow. You're just a sweetheart, aren't you? :)

  44. Anonymous pro-Israel blogger Elder of Ziyon, who first picked up on the story, took issue with the assertion. “This is, of course, a sickening implication. There were contacts before World War II as Zionists tried to save Jews from Germany; for example, the Ha’avara Agreement. Abbas is however trying to spin it as if Zionists and Nazis were cooperating in genocide, which puts him beneath contempt.” rabbi dr. bernhard rosenberg

  45. Josef Pozarski says:

http://sheikyermami.com/2013/01/11/sinem-tezyapars-obfuscation-jihad/ In this entire lengthy piece that purports to establish that Islam “does not command war against Jews,” Tezyapar never mentions Qur’an 5:82, which designates the Jews “the most hostile of men to the believers.” She never mentions 5:51, which tells Muslims not to take Jews or Christians as friends and protectors. She never mentions Sahih Muslim 6985, in which Muhammad says that “the last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him.” – read it all.

NO-GO AREAS FOR JEWS IN EUROPE, by Giulio Meotti, 12/26/2012.

Thinking of visiting Europe? Keep your kippah in your pocket (or like me, wear a baseball cap–then they only hate you for being American). –

Giulio Meotti is an Italian Christian journalist…truly a modern day Righteous Gentile -of which, thank the Lord, there still are quite a few, even in Europe where Jew-hatred as always rampant.

No-go Areas for Jews in Europe.

    By Giulio Meotti Arutz-7 (Israel).

December 18, 2012 — Surprised that Israelis entering Jordan are required to deposit religious Jewish items, like skullcaps and tefillin, for "security reasons? It's happening in many European countries as well, where Jews are once again in grave danger and Judeophobia has become the common currency of politics. Jews in Denmark have just been warned by Israeli officials not to appear publicly wearing Jewish religious symbols such as yarmulkes or stars of David in order to avoid increasing anti-Israel and anti-Semitic altercations. “We advise Israelis who come to Denmark and want to go to the synagogue to wait to don their skull caps until they enter the building and not to wear them in the street, irrespective of whether the areas they are visiting are seen as being safe,” said Israel’s ambassador to Denmark, Arthur Avnon.

Got that? To be identifiable as a Jew in public in Europe is to invite violence. There are European areas in its bigger cities where you cannot go outside looking like a Jew – it's like being in Gaza. In the last few weeks, an Israeli representative of the Magen David Adom was attacked at Copenhagen Central Station, while in central Copenaghen Jews who were wearing a kippah were have been physically and verbally attacked.

An elderly Israeli man was assaulted by a group of Arabic-looking men when he ate a kebab at Nørrebro. They kicked the victim several times and tore his necklace, on which a visible star of David was hanging, off. That's why today most of Danish Jews think twice before deciding whether to wear a necklace with a Star of David on it.

In the enlightened Europe of today, there is witch hunt against any authentic Jew with a beard and a skullcap. Jewish students have been advised not to wear a kippa in the streets in Germanyeither. The Jewish Abraham Geiger Theological College in Potsdam advises its rabbis against wearing a kippah in public, while the orthodox Or Avner school in Berlin has issued similar guidelines.

Whenever its pupils go on trips to the zoo or the museum, Jewish pupils are warned: "Speak German, not Hebrew, put a baseball cap over your kippah so you don't give stupid people something to get annoyed about." Camouflaged in this way, young Jews travel on Berlin's metro trains. The rector of the school has explained that "it is safer to not appear to be a Jewish person".

A few days ago Finland's Jewish community was advised not to wear the skullcap in public for fear of anti-Semitic attacks. In Malmö, Sweden, the country which once gave the world saints like Raoul Wallenberg, members of the local synagogue decided not to keep on their kippahs upon exiting their synagogue.

Norway's Jewish Community has advised its members against speaking Hebrew loudly on the streets or wearing Jewish emblems. Norwegian police have just increased security around Oslo’s main synagogue. A teacher, Inge Telhaug, who was wearing a Magen David around his neck under a T-shirt, was informed by the Kristiansand Adult Education Center that wearing the star could be deemed a provocation towards the many Muslim students at the school.

In France several Jews were attacked and beaten in the streets after wearing the skullcap. In Paris it is safer for young Jewish men to walk in groups, not alone. They should wear baseball caps instead of the traditional head covering to avoid being attacked by anti-Semites. In many neighborhoods of Marseille and Lyons, it is no longer safe for Jews to walk the streets. A few weeks ago a Jewish man was attacked and rendered unconscious in a Paris metro. How did the anti-Semitic mob recognize that he was Jewish? Because of a philosophy book by the chief rabbi of Paris that he was reading in the metro when he was attacked.

Meanwhile, half the Jewish families in Villepinte, working-class suburb north of Paris, have left due to anti-Semitism, fleeing to other Paris neighborhoods considered safer for Jews, or out of France entirely. Villepinte's 40-year-old synagogue, already torched in 2001, will close because it often lacks a minyan.

In the UK, there have been many cases like that of an Orthodox child, who was wearing a kippa and tzitzit, verbally threatened and physically intimidated by a hooded youth as he travelled on a London bus. When the faithful leave Rome's main synagogue they immediately hide the skullcap. Police patrol the area day and night.

In the Netherlands, the country of Baruch Spinoza, police officers began wearing yarmulkes to catch Dutch Jew haters in the act of physical or verbal assault. Jewish students are told to "put a cap over your kippah".

In Amsterdam, the shelter of Spanish Jews who fled from Inquisition, the twenty-five Lester M. Wolff van Ravenswade described the difficulties faced by Jews living in an open letter to the newspaper NRC Handelsblad: "I cannot go to public events dressed as a Jew, let alone go out on Saturday night. Which party do I have to vote for in order to live safely with the kippah on my head?".

Everywhere in Europe, steel barriers are in place outside certain buildings with Jewish or Israeli connections to prevent parking. In many British areas where Jews live the "Shomrin", or guardians, patrol the streets like Israelis do in isolated "settlements" in Israel. Last autumn the ancient Dutch synagogue of Weesp became the first synagogue in Europe since the Second World War to cancel Shabbat services due to the threats to the safety of the faithful.

Eighty years ago next January, Adolf Hitler seized power in Germany. Every time I see a Jewish child walking down the street in Vienna, Paris or Rome wearing a kippah, I know that Hitler did not get to finish his job. It makes me feel proud – or at least somewhat better. But the Holocaust, in which two thirds of European Jewry were annihilated, did not end when Nazi Germany and its satellites were routed militarily. The spirit of annihilation continues eighty years later. That's why Israel's former chief rabbi, Meir Lau, predicted that European Jewish history is nearing its end.

Indeed, it seems a tragic but unavoidable process: Europe as a Jew-free continent or a realm of fear in which Jews will survive as "invisible", like during the Inquisition, where even lighting candles on Shabbath is a hazard because someone could see the holy flames from the street.

Europe’s streets are getting very dark these days and the sublime orchestras are playing Richard Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde” and “Die Meistersinger” once more, while the faith in “truth as beauty and beauty as truth” can again meet its horrible end.

He is the author of the book "A New Shoah", that researched the personal stories of Israel's terror victims, published by Encounter. 47. Rabbi Chaim Vital wrote in the 16th Century, "At the End of Days, Israel is destined to experience the Ishmaelite exile. This fifth and last exile will be the most difficult of all. It is the exile of Ishmael, who is called 'pe're adam,' a wild man." Be strong, cling to your faith and we will see Moshiach wipe all this away. As we sing in Shir Hamaahlot (Psalm 126), we were like dreamers, meaning before our redemption, now in the end times. RABBI DR. BERNHARD ROSENBERG
