Romney to Visit Israel Before November

Mitt Romney will visit Israel during the presidential campaign.

A campaign official on Monday confirmed a New York Times report that the all-but-certain Republican presidential candidate will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and other top officials later this summer.

The Times quoted Ron Dermer, a top adviser to Netanyahu, as saying that Romney is a “strong friend of Israel and we’ll be happy to meet with him.”

Romney has said that his first foreign visit as president would be to Israel. Barack Obama visited Israel as a candidate in 2008, but has not visited as president.

The former Massachusetts governor has faulted Obama for not making more clear to Iran that it could face military consequences if it does not stand down from its suspected nuclear program and for calling on Israel to negotiate based on the 1967 lines.

Obama’s support among Jewish voters remains in the low 60s, about 15 percentage points ahead of the general population, but below the sky-high approval ratings at the outset of his presidency. Pollsters attribute the drop mostly to the economy, which dogs Obama among the general population as well.

Obama’s  campaign has been emphasizing the closeness of the U.S.-Israel military relationship, noting that in October, Israel and the United States will stage the largest-ever joint anti-missile exercise.

  1. Chas Holman says:

    Good..

Maybe he can talk with them about medical cannabis.. he was so arrogant/ignorant about it last month.

See, the Israeli's are on the forefront of cannabis research and are insisting cannabis be a FIRST line of defense before strong and deadly narcotics (their government even grows it for the patients).

They also, like Europe, have the prescribed "Sativex' that is being approved in the US as we speak FOR MS (Mitts wife has MS), but at 18 dollars a one time spray, and you have to spray several times a day, well.. cheaper to make your own.

Anyway Mitt, instead of getting snarky next time a reporter asks you a question a thinking man should at least be able to answer honestly, instead of saying 'Don't we have something important to talk about', maybe you might want to consider it ain't all about you.

Please, for God's sake Mitt, talk to the Israeli's.. you need schooling bad on this subject. 1960's are over.

    • Yori Yanover says:

For the record, Chas, Obama was asked the exact same question in '08 and was exactly as snarky in his response. The only way to get a serious pot discussion going is by removing Florida and Arizona from the voting lists for one term — that's where most U.S. citizens who were born before 1930 live.

    • Chas Holman says:

Hi Yori.. Obama has a horrendous record when it comes to Medical cannabis.. this is WHY I am asking Mitt to go and 'get informed'.

But actually Yori, what Obama said in 2008 wasn't snarky, what he said in 2008 made sense.. what he DID after 2008 as President is a great big tarnish as far as I am concerned.

    • Yori Yanover says:

I never understood the difference between getting high on booze and getting high on anything else. I'm yet to hear a rational explanation that isn't misinformed, biased or plain lies. I don't have the energy to fight for legalization of all mind expanding substances, but as far as I'm concerned, the very distinction is an example of madness.

    • Charlie Hall says:

The Likud policies on most issues are rather to the Left of the Democratic Party in the United States. It keeps its financial sector on a short regulatory leash and as a result did not have a banking crisis in 2008. It has an excellent government-funded universal health care system without private health insurers. University tuition is much lower. Public transportation is inexpensive and goes almost everywhere. Tax rates are much higher than the US as the country's citizens know that they must pay for these services. The US can learn a lot from Israel.

Perhaps Benjaman Netanyahu can talk some sense into his friend Mitt Romney.

    • Chas Holman says:

      Hii again Yori.. good morning..

I don't know a lot about getting high.. when I first started eating it it made me dizzy and nauseated for the first few times (but nothing like the morphine) but unlike the morphine, after you keep marijuana in your system (I guess it is tolerance) for a few weeks (those of us with medical conditions) you simply don't even know it is there anymore.. you don't get sleepy, your head is clear.. the only time you know your on marijuana is when you are NOT on it and a few days have passed and the prosthetic get red and swollen and start locking up severely.

The same guy who invented Green tea about 3000 bc was the first guy to write about marijuana as medicine (or anything) that we have on record anyway. He touted it's anti inflammatory properties.. and indeed, I have found it is a good one. (My doctor says to avoid tylenol if possible because years of the heavy narcotics (I am no longer dependent on) have really done some damage to my insides, liver etc.

This is why I implore Mitt to talk to the Israelis.. if I had of started my jounrney being able to try cannabis first, instead of going through months of darvaset, parcadan, lortab/vicodin/, oxycontins and then finally just settling on strait up morphine, I could of saved myself, my doctor, my family (my lovely bride of 35 years is the one who demanded we had to do something to get me off the morphine) and my actual soul a whole lot of trouble and misery.

    • Chas Holman says:

Hi again Yori.. yes, that was actu7ally the platform he mostly won on.

Since Vincente Fox started his coordinated efforts with US (starting under Bush, now Obama) over 56k Mexican citizens, have been murdered. Take a look at this.. https://sites.google.com/site/policereform/leap-mexico/narco-killings

The part that seems so glaringly obvious to me, is that during alcohol prohibiton, Us Murder rates and criminal activity was MUCH HIGNER than now per capita.

People are willing to kill for the stuff, booze included.. crazy world out there indeed.

One thing is certain, Mexico probably doesn't have a lot to lose 'experimenting' at this juncture.. and as an estimated 65% of their profits come from marijuana, and considering marijuana it's self haas never killed anyone, it MIGHT be time for the US to re-evaluate our policies totally, all medical marijuana aside.

When you start destroying peoples lives, in order to protect them, and more people are being killed in a few years than anyone in the the entirety of human existence has been harmed by the actual substance.. I dunno.. doesn't seem like too much of a head scratchcer to me.

Two businesses donate more than any other business to maintain lobbys to keep Marijuana illegal, it is a multi million dollar effort for them year in and year out. The alcohol industry, and the pharmaceutical industry. Of course when you read the link I give you next, you'll see the 'real gateway' drug.. and what is 3 billion dollars when you already hooked a nation and made a bazillion times that much.. .. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/jul/03/glaxosmithkline-fined-bribing-doctors-pharmaceuticals?newsfeed=true
