The director of al-Istishari Hospital in Ramallah, Dr. Saeed Sarahneh, said on Sunday that the health of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has been rapidly improving following a full week of hospitalization for pneumonia.

Dr. Sarahneh said the results of new health exam of the chairman showed he has gradually been getting well-to-normal.

Sarahneh said the medical staff overseeing Abbas’ health has not yet set a date for his discharge from hospital, but they are currently following up on his latest health checks.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the chairman’s office announced that he would be leaving the hospital at 2 PM on Monday.

Abbas, 82, was admitted to hospital a week ago after he had been diagnosed with pneumonia.

Ma’an cited Abbas’ press office’s brief statement: “The president’s exit from the hospital has been postponed.”

Abbas is referred to as President, much the way his Palestinian Authority is referred to as State.
