Israeli high school students pay their respects to Holocaust survivors who fell fighting during Israel's War of Independence in 1948 on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

In a twist on the standard school strike by teachers, Israel’s national student council ‘closed’ all high schools in a non-attendance action for two days this week.

Students went on “strike” Tuesday and Wednesday to protest a six week-long strike by the country’s driving examiners. Students have been unable to take their road tests and get their drivers’ licenses because of that strike.

In addition, the Secondary School Teachers’ Association announced it would stop extra-curricular activities in a work slowdown as well. Among the activities to be suspended by the teachers are field trips and class outings.
