More than a million citizens are protesting in the streets of Sao Paulo to demand the resignation of President Dilma Rousseff as she enters her second term.

Demonstrators were expressing outrage over a rapidly dropping value of the real and the deteriorating economy under the ruling Workers Party (PT).

Protesters are demanding the impeachment of the president, who has just begun her second term in office following re-election in 2014.

Rousseff severely condemned Israel’s defensive counter-terror Operation Protective Edge against Gaza’s ruling Hamas terrorist organization last summer.

Although Brazil and Israel have long enjoyed strong diplomatic relations, last year Brazil’s ambassador was recalled home for “consultations” following a retort to Rousseff by Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson Yigal Palmor.

Over this weekend, tens of thousands of protesters in Brazil accused Rousseff of silence in response to scandals involving the state-owned Petrobras oil company.

Among the accusations were implications that the president herself may have been among those who milked the company for profits.

Demonstrations were held Sunday in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador de Bahia, demanding Rousseff’s ouster.
