Nearly 40,000 New Yorkers lost electricity on Saturday night at around 7 pm in some of the busiest sections of the Big Apple.

Traffic lights, elevators and street lights were all knocked out on the Upper West Side, in Midtown and into Hell’s Kitchen, according to Con Edison spokesperson Michael Clendenin.

“It’s equipment issues and we are working to restore customers,” Clendenin told the NY Daily News.

He could not predict, however, how long it would take before power would be restored.
