Naval engineer attempted to pass military secrets to Egypt about the US Carrier Gerald R. Ford

The Ford carrier has been under construction in dry dock since 2009, and was launched last month, into the James River. It is scheduled for delivery to the U.S. Navy in 2016.

According to the Virginian-Pilot, Awwad cried during a brief court hearing on Friday. He remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the federal courthouse in Norfolk.

As several defense media have pointed out: Egypt has no aircraft carriers, and does not operate nuclear ships.
