Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told interviewer Andrew Marr in Britain on Sunday that rather than being a perpetrator of torture, Israel is a beacon of democracy in the Middle East.

Netanyahu said Iran has hopes of destroying Israel from within a short range, perhaps via one of its proxy terrorist groups along Israel’s borders north or south.

He pointed out that the Islamic State terrorist organization is rapidly losing the remainder of its territory in Syria. But as that happens, said Netanyahu, Iran filling the space left behind.

The Islamic Republic is trying to establish a permanent military presence it Syria, along Israel’s northern border. But Israel won’t allow that to happen, he said.
