Minister of Defense Moshe Yaalon (R) with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Jerusalem.

The United States  rebuked Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon Tuesday for having reportedly said that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is “messianic,” that the U.S. proposal for security arrangements under a Palestinian Authority state are worthless and that all of us would be better off if Kerry would just pick up his Nobel Prize and leave us alone.

Ya’alon has not denied or commented on the report of his comments, made in private, exposed without a source by Yediot Acharonot. Presumably, Ya’alon has a political enemy who snitched on him.

The United States was understandably insulted. “The remarks of the defense minister, if accurate, are offensive and inappropriate, especially given all that the United States is doing to support Israel’s security needs,” U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a brief statement.

The beauty of the diplomatic faux pas is that the Israeli government – if it is not comatose – will realize that it is possible to say what it thinks about John Kerry without the world coming apart.

The United States was insulted. So what?

Ya’alon finally has done what no other Israeli leader has done –  call a spade a spade and call a Secretary of State a messianic jerk.

Ya’alon is not a diplomat. He is not the greatest politician, and that is to his credit because he is more intellectually honest than others. It was Ya’alon, as Chief of Staff in 2005, who refused to turn Israeli soldiers into an Iranian goon squad to expel Jews from their homes in Gaza.

At the same time, his three-year term as Chief of Staff was due to end. The usual practice is for the Prime Minister to extend it by another year, but faced with the possibility of a loose spoke in the wheels of destruction, then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon dumped Ya’alon and replaced him with Dan Halutz.

Let’s not forget that it was Halutz, one year later when he was supposed to be totally focused on two Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah, who was on the phone with his bank to sell shares on the stock market. When he hung up, he got back to work to lead Israel into the debacle of the Second Lebanon War.

Ya’alon is not a diplomat, but he should know that whatever he says, anywhere, can be quoted. He would not dare stand on a podium and call Kerry “messianic.”

Here is what Ya’alon was quoted as saying:

“Kerry has come to act out of an incomprehensible obsession and a messianic feeling {and} cannot teach me a single thing about the conflict with the Palestinians. The only thing that can save us is if Kerry wins the Nobel prize and leaves us alone.”

He  added that Kerry’s security arrangements “are not worth the paper they are written on.”

Ya’alon issued a written statement after the report that the United States is an important ally. “When there are disagreements, we work through them inside the room – including with Secretary of State Kerry, with whom I hold many conversations about Israel’s future,” he said.

The State Dept. reprimanded him. “To question his motives and distort his proposals is not something we would expect from the defense minister of a close ally,” said Psaki.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stepped on the damage control pedal in a speech in  the Knesset, which marked on Tuesday its 65th birthday.

“We are working to advance regional security and defend our interests,” he said. “True peace is founded on recognition of the nation state of the Jewish people and on security arrangements guaranteeing that territories in Palestinian hands do not turn into launching pads for terrorists. But all that [must be achieved] while respecting our important ties to the United States. We continue to defend our national interests, one of which is the continued fostering of our relations with our ally, the United States.”

  1. This peace plan seeks to give up more of God’s land. If those currently in support of this peace plan don’t break with it; it will then break all of those in it’s support. God has not changed; He is the same as he has always been. From the day that he gave this land to Abraham until now, He is the same. In recent decades there have been many attacks followed by a time of settling and then renewed trouble and more attacks. Today we see this same scenario but with greater weapons involved and with less time settling in between attacks with more and more troubles mounting. There are even terroristic attacks within the settling periods. We see the Muslim nations getting closer to Moscow as time goes. This looks to be setting up the national alignment of the attack made in EZ 38 that takes place in the middle of the tribulation period. I believe that the rapture/departure of the Christian church is to take place very soon and that an evil peace deal will be made for 7/360 day years, between Israel, the Arabs and a person who will head the one world government. That man will be the anti-Christ. I wrote a book in 2012 that discusses some of the prophecies written about in the Bible. It’s a short read of 6 or 7 pages and it’s totally free. I hope you will have a look: http://www.booksie.com/religion_and_spirituality/book/richard_b_barnes/after-the-rapture-whats-next

  2. Yaalon picked the wrong word. Kerry is definitely not "messianic." More accurate words to describe Kerry in his campaign to destroy our ally, Israel, would be, "dishonest," or "hypocritical," or "genocidal."

  3. Kerry thought Assad a reformer. Now Bogie Yaalon a lifelong professional military person has gotten tired of him telling what is best for Israel's security. Yaalon has basically said getting out of the Jordan Valley and withdrawing from Judah and Samaria will lead to a second Hamas State. Yaalon should said Kerry their is also warm weather in Turkey go visit there.

  4. I am going to give a big "boo-hoo" to Kerry on this one. I can't agree with certain commenters that he is a dunce. He has an agenda, as does Obama. But a "bigger" person would be able to shake off comments like Yaalon's, said in private, or even utter a chuckle. What it amounts to is this: diplomats like Kerry are just too thin-skinned for words, believing their own juice as we used to said in the 80s. A diplomat by necessity needs a thick hide against the retribution for all the lies they tell.

  5. Not even going to read full article. Mr. Yaalon should not be expected to apologise to a drip like Kerry. Who incidentally is barely out of diapers for his knowledge of the ME and serious war. Kerry and Obama just don't get Abbas and his cronies just want Israel off the map, basta. I live outside Israel and every article I read about peace proves so called palestinians just want to take over and already well run nation and it's Oil and expertise in the collection of water and desalinization brilliance. Arabs are lazy by nature.

  6. Don't say your sorry with the illegal Obozo as president he hates Israel anyhow, when he waved getting off his private jet meant for the President, the real one, he waved his right hand like a Hitler moment as he is left handed, then in a speech he said all he want is Peace and Securty for Israel. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:3 and see it was a curse and not a blessing, watch out for yourself Israel the Islamist in the White House won't.

  7. Another formidable artiicle. Finally a paper that I enjoy readiing! This debacle between "Bogie and the swiftboat Brahmin" has got me in stitches. Thank you , Mr Ben-Gedalyahu. We'll see how it proceeds. If things keep deteriorating here and conservatives don't get both houses in November…look out! With a daughter pregnant with twins in Jerusalem, it looks mighty tempting to consider a move.

  8. Perhaps Mr. Ya'alon should learn the definition of Messianic. No true Messianic would ever try and broker a peace with the Palestinians. The land of Israel belongs to Israel and YHVH will judge all on the basis of their actions towards Israel. Studying the Torah and Tanakh would serve everyone well. All should read the book "The Big Lie" by Michael Cohen.

  9. I don't know whether or not Kerry is Messianic, but associating with the Weather Underground and tossing one's military decorations over the wrought-iron fence onto the White House Lawn certainly leaves the impression one's brain is quite Messy.
