IDF Attacks Syrian Regime Position Overnight

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

In response to the errant mortar that hit Israel on Wednesday evening, the Israel Air Force hit a target on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights that is under control of the Syrian regime.

Yesterday’s mortar landed in the northern end of the Golan Heights. It was presumably a misdirected shell from the Syrian civil war. There were no injuries or damage reported from the Syrian mortar.

The IDF said it holds the Syrian regime responsible for all that happens in its territory, and Israel will not accept any violations of Israel’s sovereignty or threat yo the security of Israel’s citizens.

Reports indicate that Hezbollah and Iranian troops are currently massing in the town of Quneitra on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, preparing to attack the Syrian rebels positioned nearby.

Iran Claims Hezbollah – Not Iranian Troops – Preparing for Large-Scale Operation on Golan Heights

Tuesday, September 6th, 2016

On August 20, JewishPress.com first reported on Iranian military reinforcements entering Quneitra on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.

Syrian sources said the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were replacing Syrian regime troops. The Iranians were being positioned there to allegedly attack the Syrian city of Daraa, near Jordan’s border.

At the same time, there was concern that the Iranian troops, once in place, would first attack Syrian rebel forces on the Golan Heights – and that Daraa was just an excuse to position them there to attack the rebels, and more significantly, to embed Iranian troops alongside the Israeli border on the Golan Heights.

There are estimates that as many as 60,000 Iranian troops are fighting in Syria.

On Monday, the official Iranian Islamic regime news outlet, FARS, claimed that the troops being stationed in Quneitra are Hezbollah and Syrian regime troops.

The report says, “Hezbollah has deployed a large number of its forces at Quneitra passage which has connected the Syrian territories to the occupied Golan.”

Both Syrian and Iranian news sources agree that forces supporting Assad are massing near Israel’s border on the Golan Heights in order to attack the Syria rebels positioned on the Golan Heights, but they apparently disagree on the identity of which of those allies of Assad it actually is.

In the past, Hezbollah operatives trying to set up terror networks on the Golan Heights have been attacked and killed, presumably by Israel.

It’s unknown which report is more accurate as to the makeup of the forces in Quneitra, are they Hezbollah terrorists or Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards – or perhaps both?

Israel has previously stated that Iranian troops along its borders is a red line that it won’t accept.

Syrian Army Uncovers Nightmare in Palmyra

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016

In Palmyra’s ancient Temple of Bel, conquering Syrian soldiers found ISIS terrorists buried human sacrifices and land mines alike.

The site was recaptured from the Da’esh (ISIS) terror group a week ago by the Syrian military backed by Russian forces. Da’esh had seized control over the UNESCO heritage site in May 2015.

Forty-two victims of the bloodthirsty faith of Da’esh (ISIS), of whom 24 were civilians and three were children, were found Friday in a mass grave at the site, AFP reported. All had been beheaded or shot to death.

The news agency quoted a military source who said the soldiers “uncovered a mass grave of officers, soldiers, members of the popular committees (pro-regime militia) and their relatives.” At least 280 people were murdered by Da’esh during the time the terror group held the site, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The ruins of the ancient city were also honeycombed with land mines as well, according to a Reuters reporter who quoted a Syrian officer, in hopes of creating an even larger mass grave.

Thousands of mines were rigged in the main streets and side roads of Palmyra, weighing up to 50 kg, and planned to detonate simultaneously as conquering forces moved in.

“All the government buildings are rigged in a network connected to the Da’esh leadership headquarters,” the Syrian officer said. “The idea was that as we enter it would all go off at once, not just bomb by bomb. And there are a really huge number of bombs.”

More than 3,000 of the roadside bombs and land mines have already been defused since the site was retaken, according to the report. He did not explain why the explosives did not detonate.

Defense Minister Ya’alon: Assad Has Lost Control

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

Against the background of the gas attack in Syria and the reports about hundreds of victims, perhaps more than a thousand, Israeli Defense Minister and former IDF Chief of Staff Moshe (Bogie) Ya’alon said on Wednesday that “the Syrian regime has lost control over the country, is present only in about 40 percent of its territory and is finding it difficult to subdue to opposition forces.”

Speaking at a ceremony welcoming the new Jewish year at the defense ministry compound in downtown Tel Aviv, Ya’alon said that “for some time now this has not been an internal Syrian conflict. We decided not to intervene in this conflict, but we drew red lines to make sure our interests are not harmed.

The defense minister expressed skepticism about the ending of the war in Syria. “We don’t envision the end of this situation, since even the toppling of Assad won’t bring about a conclusion. There are many open, bloody accounts yet to be settled by the various elements.”

“It’s a conflict that has turned global, with one axis receiving support from Russia and the other bein helped by the U.S. and Europe. Lebanon is connected to the massive Iranian support and therefore the war has been dripping into its territory as well. Inside Lebanon there are focal points of confrontation as well. But, generally speaking, the borders are peaceful and we are watching to make sure the cannons are not trained on us,” Ya’alon said.

According to rebel sources in Syria, the number of dead as a result of the chemical gas attack on a suburb of Damascus has topped 1,300, including women and children. The rebels are claiming this was a massacre of innocent civilians, who were hurt by poison gas in the area of the Guta camp, a rebel held spot outside Damascus.

A Syrian government spokesperson has said in response that those claims are unfounded, and are intended to sabotage the work of the UN inspectors who have just arrived in Syria to investigate earlier reports of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian army.

Swedish scientist Ake Sellstrom, head of the 20-member inspection team, told news agency TT that he finds the reports of such a high number of casualties suspicious.

“It sounds like something that should be looked into,” he told TT over the phone from Damascus. “It will depend on whether any UN member state goes to the secretary general and says we should look at this event. We are in place.”

Minister Ya’alon referred to situation in Egypt as well, saying there has been relative quiet on the Israeli border with Egypt, but noted that extremist elements like the World Jihad will attempt to destabilize the border.

He warned against the recent developments in the Sinai, such as the execution by Islamist terrorists of 25 Egyptian policemen, spilling over into Israel.

“Over the past week, the Sinai border has been the hottest, and it obliges us to realign for it.”
