Robert Bernard Sherman, who died in London this week at age 86, composed, with his brother Richard, the scores for films including “The Jungle Book,” “The Aristocats,” “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” They also wrote Disneyland’s anthem, “It’s a Small World After All.”

Robert Sherman was born on December 19, 1925 in New York City. His parents, Russian-Jewish immigrants Rosa and Al Sherman, the latter a well known Tin Pan Alley songwriter. It was rumored that the couple paid for Robert’s hospital delivery bill with a royalty check on Al’s “Save Your Sorrow.”
