Russian deputy defense minister described his country's successful cooperation with Iran in the fight against international terrorism.

Bolton, who served as US ambassador to the United Nations for the GW Bush administration, is known for his tough approach to Iran.

The Russian leader said getting Iran out "would be difficult," but agreed in principle that it must be accomplished, sooner or later.

The Russians also insist that the only acceptable outcome to the civil war must be reinstating Bashar al-Assad as the president of all of Syria.

Putin also stressed that Iranian troops are not present in the de-escalation zone in southern Syria.

"The friendship between Israel and the U.S. has never been stronger."

"We absolutely would like to work in order to help Israel, and Israel will be working with us."

"We are not prepared to accept any attacks against us and we will respond appropriately."

The conversation will mark Putin's first interview with U.S. media since June 2017.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the summit, noting, with a hint and a nudge to the White House, "As long as we remain united (within NATO), we can dialogue with Russia."

The festival also blocked a Freedom of Speech Village that was to include an "I am Charlie" exhibition.
