At both meetings the President was understood to express himself as “deeply hurt” that there are American Jews who don’t believe he adequately understands their concerns and that he has not done enough to look out for Israel’s interests.

Participants at the first meeting were not as receptive to the view that the President is the aggrieved party as between him and Israel, while those at the second meeting were described as far more supportive.
