YouTube Reinstates Cancelled PMW Account

Monday, March 7th, 2016

The video sharing YouTube service has quietly reinstated the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) watchdog account.

Without fanfare or announcement, the PMW videos that expose Palestinian Authority media incitement against Israel and Jews have been reinstated to the site.

The video sharing site suspended the media watchdog’s account last Thursday for allegedly violating its “terms of service” by exposing the violent incitement broadcast on Palestinian Authority TV.

Israeli Arab MK Ahmed Tibi Hosted at White House, State Dept. [video]

Monday, February 8th, 2016

Israel Joint Arab List MK Ahmed Tibi was hosted for meetings over the past several days in Washington DC by officials at the White House and State Department.

Tibi met with U.S. President Barak Obama’s chief adviser to the Middle East, Robert Malley, and other senior officials at the White House.

The Israeli Arab lawmaker met with U.S. Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations Frank Lowenstein, and Christopher Henzel, director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs, at the State Department as well.

“Simultaneously with our struggle within Israel, the Knesset and outside it, it is necessary to spread the word regarding the Arab public’s situation and distress to the international community, including the United States,” Tibi told journalists at a news conference.

He spoke about the “institutionalized discrimination against Arab citizens in all walks of life, including the demolition of homes, the lack of employment and racist legislation.

“Once again I found a lack of knowledge on our social and political situation, and this requires all of us to increase our efforts in the important international forum,” Tibi said.

“There is not a single member of the current Israeli government, including [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, who publicly supports the vision of the two states and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state; whereas all the Palestinian ministers support that vision,” he added.

It is especially important for readers to understand exactly who MK Tibi is, and which “struggle” he refers to when he appears in the White House and the State Department to lobby for “his people.”

Tibi — who is currently Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and paid generously with Israeli taxpayer money – was seen at a September 2011 Palestinian Authority event carried on PA TV openly praising Arab terrorists with the symbol of the late PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat (the black-and-white keffiyeh) around his neck. The footage is provided and his remarks are translated by the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) monitoring organization.

“Nothing is more exalted than those whom Israel dubs ‘terrorists-shahids,’” he said. In local Arab culture, the word – which literally translates as “martyrs” – is used to refer to those who die while trying to murder Israelis. “In the history and struggles of nations, the shahid is the ultimate glory,” Tibi told his audience at that time. “There is no value more August than the Shahada (the act of dying for Allah.) The shahid is the trailblazer, drawing with his blood the path to freedom and liberation. The shahid is the symbol of the homeland.”

While Tibi has been visiting with U.S. officials his party colleagues in Israel were visiting with the families of Arabs who were killed while carrying out terror attacks against Israelis.

This past weekend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit weigh the possibility of taking legal steps against Israeli Arab MKs Hanin Zoabi, Jamal Zahalka and Basel Ghattas of the Joint Arab List in connection with their visit last Tuesday to the families of several Arab terrorists.

Palestinian Authority Government Incites Arab Women in Media Campaign

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

The Palestinian Authority government is now actively targeting Arab women in a new media campaign, the Palestinian Media Watch organization warns.

In this latest campaign, according to the PA Minister of Women’s Affairs, women in the Palestinian Authority are “different” from all others. Minister Haifa Al-Agha, herself a woman, extolled their “uniqueness” in an interview translated by PMW.

The Arab woman living in the Palestinian Authority is differentiated “from the women of the world as [only] she receives the news of her son’s Martyrdom with cries of joy,” Al-Agha told the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida in its November 7 edition.

“By praising mothers for their ‘cries of joy’ Minister Al-Agha is sending a message to PA society to attack Israelis without fear of death because Martyrdom for Allah is said to be the highest value and highest achievable status,” the PMW pointed out in a bulletin.

The minister also added the such women are noteworthy not only because they celebrate death, but because they also fight, praising their “significant presence in the field and battle arenas.”

In the current wave of terror, there have been a number of cases – including one this morning (Tuesday, Dec. 1) – in which Arab women and girls have attacked, or attempted to attack Israelis. Some, including those as young as 14 years old, have succeeded and a few have managed to murder people.

Arab Families Are Learning: Terrorists’ Glory Doesn’t Fill Their Bellies

Tuesday, November 24th, 2015

Praises sung for the Palestinian Authority Arab murderers of four rabbis, a fifth Israeli worshipper and police officer who died in last year’s bloody massacre at the Har Nof synagogue in Jerusalem may create the illusion of Islamic family pride — but apparently the glory is filling no bellies, despite the best efforts of Arab media to pretend otherwise.

The independent Wattan news website dedicated a full article on November 18 to praising the two terrorists who carried out the hack-and-stab-and-shooting attack. The report referred to the horror as the “heroic Dir Yassin operation” and an “epos written by the heroes.” Dir Yassin is a reference to the Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Nof, where Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal chose to carry out their butchery and end their own lives.

The Wattan news agency also praised Ala’a Abu Jamal, another terrorist and family member of the Har Nof butchers. Abu Jamal was the terrorist who last month carried out a ram-and-stab attack in the middle of Jerusalem on Malchei Yisroel Street, murdering one rabbi and wounding three other people before he was shot and killed by a security guard.

But in a translation by the Palestinian Media Watch organization (PMW), a longer segment of the Wattan article reflects the changing reality in Arab Jerusalem, and possibly in the Palestinian Authority as well. Reading between the lines tells a tale of aching loss and real need — possibly even actual hunger. Widowed women in Arab society are placed in a very complex position, often for the rest of their lives.

“Nadia Abu Jamal, Martyr Ghassan’s wife, said in her answer regarding the first moments after she received the news of her husband’s death as a Martyr: ‘The news shocked and surprised me. Afterward, these feelings began to be mixed with pride over the scope and quality of the operation he carried out. Of course I did not expect this, and I am still hurting over his parting.’

Muawiyah Abu Jamal, Ghassan’s brother, said: …’all of the steps carried out by the occupation forces were harsh, but the harshest was the blowing up of our house that took place on the 6th of this past October, and which was meant to harm our resolve.’ He clarified that the fact that the occupation forces blew up the house of Martyr Ghassan caused direct damage to the homes of his 4 brothers, out of clear, methodical policy to collectively punish the family… Likewise, he noted that the Jerusalem district announced in the past, in a news item published in the media, that it would stand by the Martyrs’ families, but that until now it had not given any services or aid to the families who were harmed!

I called Martyr Uday Abu Jamal’s mother, who answered us in a voice full of sorrow at the parting of her son: ‘How I miss Uday.’ She added chokingly: ‘They sealed the house with cement, and drove us from it. Today we live in a rented house. All of our lives have changed since the operation, in which we take great pride.'”

One wonders how much pride the Abu Jamal elders, women and children really take in the butchery of those who should have been the heads of their families, supporting those who depend upon them for their daily needs. Clearly, the promises of the “Jerusalem district” that vowed to “stand by the Martyrs’ families” have proven as empty as the evil souls of the leadership that has led them and recent Arab children into the useless jaws of a far too early death.

Meanwhile, the mother of a trained, bloodthirsty killer chokes back her tears as she is left to confess that she misses her son and her lost home from which she was “driven.” But even while lamenting, “All of our lives have changed since the operation,” she is forced to tack on the words: “in which we take great pride.”

Abbas Awards Order of Merit to Cartoonist for Glorifying Stone-Throwing Terrorists

Sunday, October 25th, 2015

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has awarded the entity’s Order of Merit for Culture, Sciences an Arts to the cartoonist at the Al-Ayyam daily newspaper who has been glorifying terrorist stone-throwing attacks on Israeli motorists.

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas awards Order of Merit for his career-long work to anti-Israel, anti-Semitic cartoonist Al-Bukhari.

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas awards Order of Merit for his career-long work to anti-Israel, anti-Semitic cartoonist Al-Bukhari.

The Palestinian Media Watch organization (PMW) picked up and translated the news article announcing the award to Baha al-Bukhari. PMW monitors Arab news media around Israel.

Abbas explained that al-Bukhari received the award because his work “fits Palestine and its resolute and full culture,” according to the announcement, which ran in several Arab news outlets.

“The president [Abbas] awarded the Order of Merit for Culture, Sciences and Arts to the creator and artist al-Bukhari in recognition of his creative path in plastic arts and cartoons, and out of recognition of his life full of giving, actions, struggle, and beauty, in a way that fits Palestine and its resolute and full culture,” announced the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida last Thursday.

Nearly two weeks ago (Oct. 13) in the Al-Ayyam, a cartoon showed a whole Arab family prepared with rocks in their hands and ready to attack. The text above the cartoon proclaimed, “The rocks of 2015!” and the text on the text on the man’s arm read, “Allah is with you, Abu Al-Abed” – the name of the cartoon character.

Another cartoon by Al-Bukhari, published in the Al-Ayyam on October 9, encouraged more rock throwing, calling Arabs to “Advance, advance.” The cartoon showed an Arab throwing a rock, with a Palestinian Authority flag in the background.

Al-Bukhari has in the past (March 23, 2014, Al-Ayyam) drawn Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bathing in blood. The cartoon referred to an incident in which the IDF came to Jenin arrest a Hamas terrorist, but he and others started shooting; subsequently the fugitive terrorist and two others were killed.

The same cartoonist also has presented Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin in much the same way (Al-Ayyam, June 12, 2014) in a cartoon in which he is seen carrying what appear to be buckets of blood. The same cartoon adopted the libelous claim by the Palestinian Authority that the two stripes on the Israeli flag represent the Nile and the Euphrates, or the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, representing an alleged Jewish plan to establish “Greater Israel” ruling over all of “Palestine.”

Al-Bukhari two years ago presented Israel as an octopus wrapping its arms around Al-Aqsa Mosque, criticizing the Arab nations for “sleeping!”

On the same note, he prepared a cartoon that supported the claim by the Palestinian Authority that Israel “Judaizes” Jerusalem while attempting to “erase” all Arab and Muslim traces in the city. The cartoon featured a huge mushroom to represent the Hurva Synagogue, which was rebuilt and restored by Israel a few years ago in the Old City of Jerusalem. The mushroom-as-synagogue was overshadowing the Dome of the Rock, with Arabic text on the mushroom literally meaning “destruction,” but also translated as “Hurva Synagogue.”

Palestinian Authority Incites Summer Camp Kids with AK-47 Rifles

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

The Palestinian Authority has copied Hamas’ version of summer camp for children and teaches them to dance in military uniforms, holding assault rifles and reciting anti-Zionist slogans.

The Palestinian Authority (PMW) has translated and published the gross incitement of terror by the Abbas regime, which still wins praise from the Obama administration for supposedly renouncing terror and ending incitement.

PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas has not uttered a word on last night’s Palestinian Authority terrorist attack in Samaria that left one person clinging to life and three others with moderate to serious injuries.

The names of the groups of children in the summer camps say it all. One group of 150 children is part of “Martyrs and Prisoners” and participated in the camp known as “Jerusalem in the Eyes of the Lion Cubs and Flowers of Palestine.”

And who runs it? Not the Boy Scouts.

It is operated by the Palestinian Authority’s National Security Forces in coordination with the youth movement in the Fatah party headed by Abbas.

The camp’s activities highlighted by Palestinian Authority media are not tennis or playing tag.

The little kiddies wore military uniforms for the final ceremony of an early summer camp and danced. No, they did not dance with each other. They danced with AK-47 assault files, one of Abbas’ tools to further the peace process and a probably violation of the Geneva Convention

PMW reported that the official Palestinian Authority daily, after Israelis Independent Day (Yom Ha’Atzmaut) included the Al-Asima bi-weekly in which an article referred to Israel as:

The so-called ‘Israel’;
The occupation state;
The Zionist entity.

The article also described the Israeli army in the 1948 War for Independence as “90,000 terrorists.”

Another blatant incitement of violence was recorded on a Fatah posting on Facebook last month, where it referred to “the weapon with which we will confront our Zionist enemy.” An image showed from Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades with rifles and rockets:

The posting stated, as translated and published by PMW:

We promise that we will meet the enemy with two weapons in our hands – faith in Allah and in the inevitable victory, and the weapon with which we will confront our Zionist enemy. We will defend the honor of this Arab and Islamic nation. #Al_Aqsa_Martyrs’ Brigades.

Itamar Marcus, the founder and director of Palestinian Media Watch, stated:

The PA message to U.S. leaders in Washington is that they want peace. The PA message to their kids is that killing Israelis is heroic. It’s time the U.S. figured out which is the true message.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon directly charged the Palestinian Authority with inciting the latest round of terror that has escalated since the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. He said:

People sit during the [Ramadan] holiday in their houses, watch television program and go outside and act [accordingly].

Palestinian Media Watch Director Itamar Marcus Awarded Israel Media Prize

Sunday, February 8th, 2015

PMW director Itamar Marcus is to receive the Abramowitz Israel Prize for Media Criticism this month. Sponsored by Kenneth and Nira Abramowitz, the prize is awarded by Israel’s Media Watch.

The goal of the award is to encourage journalists, pundits, public figures and organizations to contribute toward a critical review of the media.

“One of the topics that the Israeli media is loath to cover seriously in the Palestinian Authority,” wrote Israel Media Watch chairman Eli Pollak and vice-chairman Yisrael Medad in describing the award.

“The Israeli media is dominated by those who believe that Israel’s future depends on the realization of the two-state vision. Our pundits describe PA President Mahmoud Abbas as a relative moderate, with whom one may cut a deal. This may be true or not, but the public deserves to know whether the facts support it.

“This is why Israel needs an organization such as Palestinian Media Watch. The organization, founded in 1996 by Itamar Marcus, has during the past two decades reported on the PA. Its material is available to all, yet the Israeli media is very loath to bring to the fore some of the egregious hate incitement in the PA, condoned by Abbas.

“This hate is not against the “occupation” per se, but is anti-Semitic. It encourages terrorism against Israelis and aggrandizes those who commit despicable crimes, such as killing infants in their beds, just because they were born to Israelis or “settlers.”

Why does the media ignore these warnings? One reason is that the idea of peace is so tantalizing that facts are not allowed to interfere. A more sinister motivation is racism – the Palestinians are not considered to be sufficiently civilized to be held to Western standards, and their behavior is discounted as that of primitives. Be it what it may, we at Israel’s Media Watch have found the Palestinian Media Watch and its founder and leader Marcus to be worthy of the media criticism prize this year.
