Sick Gaza Lioness Brings Israeli, Hamas Officials Together

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Written by Jesse Lempel In a surreal scene at the border between Israel and Gaza, a 440-pound lioness was hoisted by a crane on Monday and sent through the border into Israel.

The eight-year-old lioness was forced to leave her home in Gaza’s Rafah Zoo in order to receive urgent medical treatment in the Palestinian Authority city of Tulkarem in Samaria.

The rescue mission was jointly run by the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) and the Hamas-run Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza. It was the latest in a string of Israeli-Hamas collaborations to rescue Gaza’s ailing lions.

Another lion was rescued from the Rafah Zoo last month, also passing through the Erez Crossing en route to Tulkarem, in a collaborative mission that COGAT dubbed “Operation Peace.” In the last year and a half, four other lions and two cubs have been evacuated from Gaza through Israel.

Many animals in Gaza zoos suffer from severe malnutrition and inadequate living conditions. Four Paws, an international aid organization devoted to animal welfare, has conducted several emergency missions to Gazan zoos — in Rafah, in Al Bisan, and in Khan Younis.

“There are now only 21 animals left in Al Bisan Zoo in northern Gaza,” the group’s website reported in February. “The others have died due to starvation.”

IDF Foils Major Terror Attack in Samaria Moshav

Monday, February 1st, 2016

IDF soldiers foiled an attempt by an Arab terrorist Monday morning to attack Jewish residents living in Moshav Sal’it early Monday morning.

The moshav is located in the eastern Sharon plains, around eight kilometers south of Tulkarem.

Ahmed Tobah, 19, was spotted by IDF soldiers deployed in the area as he tried to penetrate the Samaria community’s security fence.

When soldiers approached to arrest him, the would-be infiltrator tried to stab them instead – and was immediately shot and killed on site. Tobah was allegedly a Palestinian Authority resident living in the Tulkarem area in Samaria.

No Israelis were wounded in the exchange.

Twin Sisters’ Terror Cell Uncovered Near Tulkarem

Monday, January 25th, 2016

Israeli security personnel have once again managed to prevent Arab terrorists from wreaking havoc, mayhem and untold tragedy upon the People of Israel.

Twin sisters from the Arab village of Shuweika, near Tulkarem were arrested in a joint sting operation last month by the IDF and the Shin Bet for plotting a terror attack against Israelis.

It’s the third terrorist cell to be caught in the Tulkarem area in recent weeks.

The forces confiscated homemade explosive materials in the home of the two sisters, 18-year-old Diana and Nadia Huwila, according to the IDF.

Hidden in the home was a fully assembled bomb complete with a detonator, the IDF said in a release cleared for publication.

Also uncovered in a search of the premises was bomb-making equipment, including a knife, fertilizer and other weaponry, as well as Hamas propaganda.

Questioning by the Shin Bet revealed that Diana had purchased the bomb components and used instructions obtained on the Internet to assemble them into an explosive device for use against Israeli targets. She had spent hours watching extremist Islamist videos online, which had contributed towards her radicalization. Nadia aided and abetted her sister, hiding the evidence in the home the two shared.

Over the past several days, the two sisters faced indictments on charges in Samaria Military Court. Diana has been charged with a number of illegal weapons offenses and producing an explosive device. Nadia faces only the illegal weapons charges.

“This investigation emphasizes once more the continued motivation to carry out terror attacks, even among those who are not [directly] linked to terrorist organizations, and among them, women,” the Shin Bet said in a statement.

Palestinian Authority Intelligence Member Arrested by Shin Bet

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Israeli security forces have arrested a three-member Arab terrorist cell in Samaria that included an employee of the Palestinian Authority intelligence service.

An elite military unit joined forces with the Shin Bet to capture two terrorists who attacked IDF soldiers four days ago.

One IDF soldier was wounded in a shootout that ensued in Samaria when his unit came under fire during an early-morning raid near Tulkarem, in the village of Din’aba.

The two Arab terrorists who were involved in the shootout managed to escape. The PA intelligence member later aided the pair with their escape and hiding the weapon, according to the Shin Bet.

Under questioning, “The operatives confessed to plotting and carrying out the shooting, and surrendered the weapon used in the attack,” the IDF said in a statement.

Ala’a Barqawi, 32, is an employee of the Palestinian Authority intelligence agency. According to the Shin Bet, he aided the other two detainees after they attacked the IDF unit, and hid the weapon they used in the shootout.

Amar Anbess, 27, has already served prison time in 2008 for terrorist activity. He and Samir a-Haq, 30, opened fire at the IDF soldiers who were operating in their village on January 20.

All three of the terrorists are residents of Din’aba. They were arraigned Sunday in military court.

5-Member Hezbollah Terror Cell Nabbed in Israel

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Cleared for release: In a joint operation, IDF, ISA and Israel Police arrested a terror cell funded and guided by Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

The five-member cell was based in the Tulkarem area and was plotting a shooting attack.

The leader of the cell, a Hezbollah operative, was recruited online by Jawad Nasrallah, the son of Hezbollah terror chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah.

According to a statement released by the IDF, the cell received instructions and guidance from an additional Hezbollah operative named “Fadi.”

It was “Fadi” who directed other operatives regarding the execution of terror attacks using explosives, training suicide bombers, gathering information on security forces and purchasing weapons.

The Hezbollah terrorist organization has for many years been generously funded, equipped and trained by its patron, Iran and continues to function as its proxy in the region.

Mahmoud Za’alul, 33, was recruited by the younger Nasrallah via the Internet, according to the Shin Bet, and reported to “Fadi,” who told him to open an email account. It was after he did so that Za’alul was given instructions on how to recruit other cell members and conduct reconnaissance in order to carry out terror attacks.

Hezbollah paid $5,000 to the cell via foreign currency transfers, according to the report.

Muhammad Massawareh, 20, and Ahmed Abu al-Az, 20, two of the five suspects who were arrested, were both from Tulkarem. They purchased weapons from Za’alul, intending to attack Israeli security forces, but were arrested before they could carry out the attack.

Also arrested were Muhammad Za’alul, 20, and Rabah Labdi, 29, both from Zita. Labdi is a convict who was incarcerated in Israeli prison from 2002 to 2007, and 2008 to 2011.

“The Hezbollah organization is trying to latch on to the recent wave of terror flooding Israel and is working vigorously to fan the flames,” said the Shin Bet, “Contributing to the growing incitement by exploiting the Palestinian population and tempting young people to carry out terror attacks under its instruction, for payment.

“The organization is using remote enlistment and handling of terror cells over the Internet with the goal of perpetrating terrorist acts from afar, without leaving a signature,” the Shin Bet warned.

All five of the suspects were indicted in a Samaria military court.

They were charged with membership in an illegal organization, contact with the enemy, channeling enemy funds into the region, intent and involvement in manslaughter, arms dealing, intent to shoot people, and interfering with legal proceedings.
