Greece to Ignore EU’s Anti-Israel Labeling Rules

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

The Greek government has told Israel it will disregard European Union guidelines advising member states to re-label any good manufactured in communities past the 1949 Armistice Line, also known as the “Green Line.”

The guidelines, published earlier this month, advise that anything produced in Judea and Samaria cannot be labeled “Made in Israel.”

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said in a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Athens would oppose the guidelines one day after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited Jerusalem, according to a report by The Times of Israel. There was no coverage of the government’s decision in any Greek media.

Hungary declared its intention to defy the EU guidelines earlier this month, almost as soon as the directive was issued.

But since 2003, there had already been a numerical code placed on Israeli imports by the EU, in order to differentiate between products made anywhere beyond the “Green Line” and those produced within “pre-1967″ Israel, according to The Guardian British newspaper.

In response to the EU’s labeling, Netanyahu announced Sunday at the opening of the weekly government cabinet meeting that Israel would end cooperation with the EU’s role in peacemaking with the Palestinian Authority.

Earlier in the month, Israel’s Ambassador to the EU, David Walzer explained, “This for us in Israel feels like we have been singled out for quasi-sanctions using economic tools for punishment.” The EU has not applied the same guidelines to products manufactured in territories “occupied” by several other nations, including Morocco.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry indicated meanwhile that although individual relations with various European nations would continue, there would be no dialogue with the EU “until the reassessment is completed.”

Nevertheless, a European Union spokesperson insisted the entity would “continue to work on the Middle East peace process” independently.

Past activities by the EU have included generous funding and unauthorized construction of illegal homes and other structures for Arab squatters in Area C territory that is supposed to be under Israel’s complete control, in accordance with the internationally-recognized Oslo Accords.

Given that history, the mammoth rate of Arab immigration to most European member states in the EU, and the overwhelmingly negative voting history of the entity when issues involving Israel are raised at forums such as the United Nations, one might question whether independent work by the EU is really possible.

UPDATE: German Store Sells ‘Made in Israeli’ Goods from Settlements

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

Galeria Kaufhof, one of Germany’s largest department store chains, says it will continue to sell Israeli “settlement” products even if they do not have the new required label “Made in Settlements.”

The store reiterated a statement last week that it is the importers’ responsibility to follow the new European Union requirement that all products from the Golan Heights, Judea and Samaria be labeled without indicating that they are made in Israel.

Product from the Golan Heights (Israeli settlement)’ or ‘Product from West Bank (Israeli settlement).’

An earlier report carried here quoted Channel 10 as saying that Galeria Kaufhof, which operates more than 100 stores in Germany, is removing “settlement” products from its shelves. The company vehemently denied the report, which also quoted a store manager as saying:

The EU is waging a religious war against Israel. It is one big political madness.

Galeria Kaufhof firmly stated today, as reported by Globes:

Our company has not removed any of those products from the shelves. We import the goods via European importers who are responsible for correct declaration. We do not get involved in politics with our assortment. Our core customer’s demands set the standards for the products we sell.

The company stand is directly opposite that of the large KaDeWe supermarket chain that yanked Golan Heights wines, Ahava cosmetics and other goods from its shelves.

KaDeWe later said the merchandise would be returned after being labeled according to the new EU regulations.

Under the new rules, products are from Arab areas will carry labels declaring: “Product from West Bank (product from Palestine), “Product from West Bank (Palestinian product),” “Product from Gaza (Palestinian product)” or “(product from Palestine).”

However, the EU says the labeling is not intended to recognize the Palestinian Authority as a country.

IDF to Bar PA Arab Motorists from Gush Etzion Roads

Wednesday, November 25th, 2015

Following the wave of Arab terror attacks in Gush Etzion, the IDF announced a series of measures it will take in order to improve the security of the citizens.  ,

The Gush Etzion junction has become one of the most popular spots for Palestinian Authority terrorists to stab, shoot and run over Jewish motorists, hitchhikers and soldiers. This central junction, located just south of Efrat, interconnects Jerusalem to Hebron, Alon Shvut, Kfar Etzion, and the communities in Western Gush Etzion. It is located adjacent to the Rami Levy shopping center.

The Gush Etzion Regional Council spokesman told The JewishPress.com that the road between the Gush Etzion Junction and Alon Shvut/Kfar Etzion will be closed to Palestinian Authority Arabs, and on Highway 60, traffic will be divided to separate PA Arab and Jewish vehicles under new IDF directives to reduce potential terror attacks.

The latest wave of terror, which follows years of dozens of murders and attempted murders of Jews in Gush Etzion, prompted the military to launch security arrangements to reduce the danger.

Previous improvements to security have proven to be short-lived, and it is not known if these new measures will be permanent.

The new steps the IDF are announcing include:

  1. Separate lanes for Palestinian Authority and Israel motorists approaching the Gush Etzion junction on Highway 60 from the north (Bethlehem, Hussan, El Hadr) and south (Hebron region);
  1. Prohibiting Palestinian Authority drivers from using the road that runs west from the junction to Alon Shvut and Kibbutz Kfar Etzion;
  1. Separate entrance to the parking lot at the Rami Levy shopping complex, located 500 feet west of the junction; and
  1. Deploying a special IDF unit at the junction.

The IDF also will deploy a special combat unit and will establish checkpoints at the exits from Hebron area villages.

The military also will take more action to arrest rock-throwers, will establish more lookout outposts on the roofs of strategically located Arab houses and will establish a second guard tower at the Gush Etzion Junction.

The plan to bar Palestinian Authority motorists from the road from the junction to Kibbutz Kfar Etzion, the same road where Hamas terrorists kidnapped and murdered three yeshiva youth two summers ago, could face a challenge in court.

Left-wing groups several years ago won their case in court against barring Arabs from Highway 443, the road that connect Jerusalem with Modi’in and which serves as an alternative to the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem Highway 1.

Palestinian Authority terrorists have since carried out several deadly attacks on Highway 443, including the stabbing death of an Israeli soldier at a gas station two days ago.

Netanyahu to U.S.: Green Light for ‘Settlers’ in Return for ‘Good Will’ [video]

Tuesday, November 24th, 2015

Netanyahu has check-mated Obama.

The Prime Minister and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met on Tuesday, two weeks after Israel reportedly told the Secretary of State that more “good will measures” for Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority must parallel good will to Israel by giving the green light for building homes in settlement blocs.

The Obama administration obviously was far from happy with the Israeli demand, according to this morning’s report by Haaretz, which directly quoted a government spokesman as saying:

The Americans want Israel to implement a package of meaningful measures in the West Bank. The prime minister made it clear that we want American recognition of the settlement blocs and of the fact that we can build there.

The office of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has not denied the report, and it makes perfect sense. Abbas has figuratively shot himself in the head by not dampening incitement to kill Jews. He also not only has not condemned murders of Israel, his regime also has continued to praise the “martyrs.”

Netanyahu, the master of timing, has exploited the impossible situation in which Abbas has placed himself by promoting lies that are too ridiculous even for President Barack Obama and most of the international community to buy.

The Palestinian Authority recently has accused Israelis of “executing” terrorists who they claims were innocent people, has charged that soldiers and “settlers” plant knives next to terrorists who were shot dead, and has tried to create a change in the definition of the “Temple Mount status quo” to mean no Jews are allowed even to visit, let alone pray.

The inevitable change in the image of Abbas, along with this past week’s blood-letting by Palestinian Authority terrorists, left Kerry in the unusual position of not demanding “both sides” stop the violence when he met Prime Minister Netanyahu Tuesday.

The Prime Minister’s remarks released for publication were:

Good morning, John. I’d like to welcome you again to Jerusalem. You are a friend in our common effort to restore stability, security and peace. There can be no peace when we have an onslaught of terror – not here or not anywhere else in the world, which is experiencing this same assault by militant Islamists and the forces of terror. Israel is fighting these forces every hour.

Kerry was incredibly bland, limiting his comments to his concern about the attacks, although he did not specifically use the terms “Arabs,” whether from Jerusalem or from the Palestinian Authority. The usual “balance” was absent. Kerry did not even hint that Israel has to show “proportional response” and did not utter a sound about Israeli settlements being an obstacle to peace.

He didn’t even use the word “occupation.”

Kerry stated, for public consumption, at least:

I come at a time that, as the Prime Minister has just said, is very troubled. Clearly, no people anywhere should live with daily violence, with attacks in the streets, with knives or scissors or cars. And it is very clear to us that the terrorism, these acts of terrorism which have been taking place, deserve the condemnation that they are receiving and today I expressed my complete condemnation for any act of terror that takes innocent lives and disrupts the day-to-day life of a nation.

Israel has every right in the world to defend itself. It has an obligation to defend itself…. So I’m here today to talk with the Prime Minister about the ways that we can work together, all of us – the international community – to push back against terrorism, to push back against senseless violence and to find a way forward, to restore calm and to begin to provide the opportunities that most reasonable people in every part of the world are seeking for themselves and for their families.

He added that the Islamic State (ISIS) state also is one the agenda of his discussion with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Labor MK: Netanyahu Sold Out Settlements to the EU Long Before Product labeling

Thursday, November 12th, 2015

(JNi.media) MK Stav Shaffir (Zionist Camp, a.k.a. Labor) addressed the issue of product labeling, saying “the right-wing government has long ago sold out the settlements in exchange for a long list of economic benefits from the EU.”

Writing in a Wednesday night Facebook post, Shaffir, not a friend of the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria, wrote: “In the coming days, you’ll be hearing Netanyahu government ministers and the Prime Minister himself crying in front of every open microphone: ‘Settlement products labeling?! Differentiating between products on the basis of their place of manufacturing?! How can those anti-Semitic Europeans imagine such a thing!’ The general hysteria, which has already begun today, will combine—as is traditionally accepted—as many references to the Holocaust as possible.”

“So Let me tell you something,” Shaffir continues, “The State of Israel is a signatory to a variety of agreements with the EU and international organizations. Economic, scientific and technological agreements, which include a clear legal distinction between sovereign Israel and the occupied territories. And the signatory to these agreements it is not Hitler nor his friend, the Mufti, but the Israeli government and its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. Why? Because these agreements are worth tens of billions to the Israeli economy.”

Stav Shaffir is as close to a grassroots leader as you get in Israel. She gained national attention as one of the founders and organizers, and the unofficial leader of the summer of 2011 Israeli social justice protests, in which more than half a million Israelis took to the streets in huge, persistent public demonstrations. From that moment on, her rise was truly meteoric, elected to the Knesset on the Labor list at age 27, and then placing second in the January 2015 Labor primaries. Had the Zionist Camp won that 2015 election, Shaffir would have received a major government portfolio.

She writes on: “In short, just like the right-wing minister can ramble on all day long about how bad the Oslo accords are—but will never dare to cancel them and return our soldiers to the heart of the casbah in Palestinian cities, so it is in this case: nothing but shrieks and nonsense. The purest right-wing government we’ve had in years has long since sold out the settlements for a long list of economic benefits from the EU. What the European countries are doing now is to extend this ongoing, mutual understanding to the supermarket shelves.”

In a challenging tone, as befits an opposition MK and a populist leader, Shaffir concludes: “Incidentally, last week Acting Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely stated that the [EU Commission] new guidelines are [tantamount to] ‘a yellow star and delegitimization of Israel.’ If all that is true, then, in effect, the Israeli government — which has signed these agreements — is performing self-delegitimizing, and must eliminate those agreement as soon as possible, possibly tomorrow morning. Let’s see them doing it…”

European Jewish Leader Exposes EU Hypocrisy

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor has called on the new European Union labeling regime for products made by Israelis in Judea and Samaria “very problematic.”

Shortly after the EU publicized its decision Wednesday, Dr. Kantor stated:

The EU has been consistently asked why Israel is made a special case without any other precedent.

The EU has refused to answer even though we see it signing agreements to profit from and contributing to Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara and Turkey’s occupation of Northern Cyprus.

In many other disputes the EU actually supports or profits from an internationally designated occupation.

The European Commission, the executive arm of the EU in Brussels, released today new guidelines regarding the labeling of products from Israeli companies in the West Bank that are sold in Europe.

Dr. Kantor said that the EU decision “is clearly discriminatory and stands in stark contradistinction to the EU’s own mandate to be fair and free of prejudice.

He added:

After studying the issue deeply we have concluded that there are no comparable guidelines for any other territorial dispute or what are perceived as occupations anywhere else in the world….

Furthermore, these guidelines may contravene international treaties and agreements like the World Trade Organization.

Palestinian Authority: It’s Really About Israel’s Existence, Stupid

Sunday, November 8th, 2015

A semi-official news outlet that carries statements for Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas proclaimed on Sunday his oft-repeated wild incitement that Israel is out to destroy the central Al Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. And of far more international interest, the site added, “the current Palestinian uprising has its roots in 67 years” of Arab rage over the rebirth of the State of Israel.

The “Palestine Solidarity Network (PSN)” mouthpiece was quoted by the Palestine News Network (PNN) in the accusation against the Netanyahu administration on Sunday of ordering the destruction of the Al Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount.

Moreover, the PA government confirmed publicly that the issue of “new settlements” is not behind the latest round of Arab violence — nor has the issue of “settlements” been the issue igniting Arab violence over the past 20 years. It is the issue of Israel’s entire existence — as the more direct Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization explains in its forthright founding charter, which proclaims its determination to annihilate the State of Israel at all costs — that the Palestinian Authority finds so upsetting.

“The current Palestinian uprising has its roots in 67 years of being forcibly and brutally pushed out of their lands and homes,” stated the PSN on the homepage of the PNN website.

PNN, the official Internet mouthpiece for the Palestinian Authority, posted the piece at around the same time a flight bearing Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was arriving in the United States for a meeting with President Barack Obama.

“Three months ago, Israeli illegal settlers burned down a Palestinian home in Duma (occupied West Bank), killing an infant and his parents,” the statement went on, promoting a theory that has yet to be substantiated. Jewish terrorists who in the past carried out “price tag” attacks and atrocities against Arab neighbors were caught by Israeli security personnel and jailed within days of the crime.

The Palestinian Authority instead glorifies Arab murderers, naming public squares, streets and children’s summer camp programs after terrorists who carry out attacks against Israelis and Jews. In the case of the Duma incident, it is still not clear who carried out the despicable arson murder of the two parents and baby.

“The incident was followed by an increased Israeli military and settler presence around the Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem,” PSN continued, adding, “Under orders from the far-right Israeli administration, parts of the mosque were burned and destroyed. Moreover, Israeli claims of access to worshipping sites are often a first step for more colonization of land and are inevitably met by a wave of rejection and anger.

“More than 70 Palestinians have been killed in the last month by the Israeli military and armed settlers, many of them civilians who were not involved in violent attacks,” the Palestinian Authority website claimed.

Actually, since October 1, there have been dozens of Arab terrorists — many of them teenagers inspired by the endless incitement broadcast over PA government-run media and taught in PA-approved classrooms — who have carried out more than 60 stabbings, six vehicle ramming attacks and five shooting attacks against Israelis and Jews. At least 10 Israelis died and well over a hundred have been wounded. There were four such attacks within a six-hour period just prior to the posting of the PSN article, in fact.

Most of the attacks have been carried out in and around Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem, and the ancient holy city Hebron. Both cities are sacred to Jews and contain sites holy to Muslims as well.

The blood spilled in our cities is a stupid, useless tragedy for everyone. It serves no one except the evil, corrupted Arab leaders who have destroyed nearly every bit of progress their people manage to achieve, and have succeeded in brainwashing the last three of those generations. They sadly managed to produce an ample supply of young expendables who grew up inspired to give birth, raise “martyrs” and give birth again. And now they are bringing up a whole generation of those silly enough and impulsive enough to rush into death without giving thought to the value of life, the value of true honor, as opposed to the travesty of “honor” sold to them by the fakers in their TV screens.
