Obama’s Bribery and Emotional Blackmail to Sell Pollard and Buy Time

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is scheduled to return to Israel Wednesday and meet Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah to conclude another black chapter of Israel’s winding itself around President Barack Obama’s little finger.

Everything is apparently is place for the proposed deal of “Pollard in exchange for terrorists and another year of talks,” in reality a stretched version of Palestinian Authority ultimatums.

Palestinian Authority officials are to meet tonight in Ramallah in preparation for Kerry’s visit. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has called for a special Cabinet session Wednesday to approve the deal, if Ramallah does not throw a monkey wrench into the ring.

The American and Israeli governments have been spoon-feeding the Israeli public the past 24 hours with the idea of Obama’s granting Jonathan Pollard freedom from his life sentence in jail, even though he is eligible for pardon in November 2015.

That might be the reason Obama is playing the “Pollard card” now because next year, time would have expired to the point that offering Pollard would be useless for solving the next crisis, which can be expected if Kerry then comes up with a creative device to divide Jerusalem while calling it something else.

Morally, the idea of freeing Pollard for terrorists, and for extending the talks that have brought Israel nothing except a pat on the head from the Obama administration, is reprehensible. For good measure, there will be an “unofficial” building freeze in Judea and Samaria, which means no one really knows what it means.

It also defies logic from the side of the American government, which now has to explain to its citizens that the position that Pollard “committed a serious crime and must pay for it” suddenly subservient to need to continue the mediation of Obama’s point men who keep Israel and the Palestinian Authority from abandoning Kerry and Obama.

Yair Shamir, a Cabinet minister from the Yisrael Beitenu party, told Israeli radio Monday that the proposed deal is “bribery and emotional blackmail.” He said will oppose the deal if it comes to a vote.

Likud Minister Yuval Steinitz, loyal to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, said that the deal defies logic but that Israel has a moral commitment to do whatever has to be done to free Pollard.

Labor Knesset Member Nachman Shai expressed the most accurate estimate of reality. “The Palestinians feel that Israel is in a severe crisis and they can demand more and more,” he said.

Israeli governments, especially those of Rabin-Peres, Sharon, Olmert and now Netanyahu – have consistently turned themselves on their heads to perform stunts that are incomprehensible.

Each one is more unbelievable than the prior act, which is a cause for worry, because what’s next?

Abbas and Kerry in Cahoots to Throw the Peace Talks Bomb at Israel

Monday, March 24th, 2014

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called Mahmoud Abbas Monday, just by coincidence when the Palestinian Authority chairman was sitting down for a chat with U.S. Middle East Peace Envoy Martin Indyk in Amman.

The PA’s official WAFA news agency reported that Abbas’ negotiator Saeb Erekat and his spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh also were at the meeting.

The same day, an official of the Palestinian Authority who spoke on the basis of anonymity, told the Bethlehem-based Ma’an News Agency that Abbas will extend the talks if Israel simply will make a couple of peace-loving gestures. All Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has to do is see his government collapse by prohibiting Jews from building in Judea and Samaria and freeing Arab terrorists, including those with Israeli citizenship.

The conditions were widely expected but the timing of the statement with Kerry’s phone call is impeccable.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has been playing along with this diplomatic farce with both hands tied behind his back and his ankles chained to the diplomatic time bomb that will explode in Israel’s face  – not because the talks will fail but because they started in the first place.

The script was written with the recent visits of Netanyahu and Abbas at the White House, where President Obama welcomed them into his Machiavellian den.

Before Netanyahu’s plane touched down, Obama already was on the attack, using as his mouthpiece Jeffrey Goldberg, a journalist he can count on to toe the party line.

If Netanyahu “does not believe that a peace deal with the Palestinians is the right thing to do for Israel, then he needs to articulate an alternative approach,” the president said. “It’s hard to come up with one that’s plausible….

“Do you resign yourself to what amounts to a permanent occupation of the West Bank? Is that the character of Israel as a state for a long period of time? Do you perpetuate, over the course of a decade or two decades, more and more restrictive policies in terms of Palestinian movement? Do you place restrictions on Arab-Israelis in ways that run counter to Israel’s traditions?”

We’ll leave it to the reader to figure out President Obama’s understanding of “Israel’s traditions.” Maybe he has a secret Zionist past when he went to school in Indonesia.

Other comments from the U.S. president who has an “unbreakable” bond with Israel,” included, “We have seen more aggressive settlement construction over the last couple years than we’ve seen in a very long time.” True. All it takes is a building freeze to fix that problem.”

Obama and Netanyahu then held their usual photo-op conversation before their talks and a high-profile conclusion.

But when Abbas visited, there was a short prelude and then, “Lights out. No sound. No action.”

Zilch.

Obama was totally non-committal, with no demands from Abbas, after having previously repeating time after time the lie that Abbas has stopped incitement and is against terror, simply because he says so. His war against terror consists of the IDF arresting and killing terrorists under Ramallah’s nose.

All the president had to say to the press was, “It’s very hard; it’s very challenging. We’re gonna have to take some tough political decisions and risks if we’re able to move it forward.”

Who is “we,” Kemosabe?

We is Israel.

Obama made no comment on Abbas’ recognizing as a Jewish state. He made no comment on Abbas’ silence on dropping the demand to import a few million Arabs into Israel to guarantee the end of a Jewish state of Israel, and Obama did not say they he told Abbas that if a deal is reached, it is final. No ifs, ands or buts. No “it’s a deal if…”

UK Architects Vote Against Israel

Monday, March 24th, 2014

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is advocating to suspend the Israeli Association of United Architects (IAUA) from the International Union of Architects (IUA).

According to a report on the BDS movement website, RIBA voted 23-16 with 10 abstentions on March 19 to boycott the Israeli organization.

The motion called on the IUA to suspend the Israeli organization’s membership “until it acts to resist these illegal projects, and observes international law, and the IUA Accords and Resolution 13….[which] states that ‘The IUA Council condemns development projects and the construction of buildings on land that has been ethnically purified or illegally appropriated, and projects based on regulations that are ethnically or culturally discriminatory, and similarly it condemns all action contravening the fourth Geneva Convention.’ “

There is rich irony in that motion, given the definitions of “ethnic purification” and “cultural discrimination” and the countless examples of its lack of relevance anywhere in Judea and Samaria, let alone in Jerusalem.

The land referred to in the motion is polka-dotted throughout Judea and Samaria with Arab and Jewish farming villages and towns – so much so, in fact, that negotiators on both sides still cannot figure out a realistic way to separate them. That’s because they live ‘cheek-and-jowl’ – the truth is, many of those communities are close neighbors and if they would have been left alone, would have remained at peace.

Anyone who has driven through Judea via Highway 60 and stopped off to shop at the Rami Levi supermarket also knows how ridiculous the accusation is. The bustling enterprise, owned by Israeli Jewish businessman Rami Levi, employs both Palestinian Authority Arabs and Israeli Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, most of whom are observant Muslims, Christians and Jews. Moreover, the store is crowded from morning till night likewise with shoppers of the same ilk: Palestinian Authority Arabs and Israeli Jews, all of whom are residents of Judea and Samaria – all intent on one thing: making sure they get what they need for their families and getting home in time for dinner.

In Jerusalem, the accusation of “discrimination” is even sillier: there is not one major Israeli hospitality industry institution in which Arabs do not play a major role. Step into any hotel, be it rated at two stars or five, and see if you can find any staff without at least several high-ranking Arab employees. Likewise the health clinics, hospitals and other offices in the holy city. Hadassah Medical Center is headed by an Arab professional, in fact.

The word “apartheid” in the British Oxford dictionary is defined as “a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race” that historically began with South Africa. Although it has been flung at Israel over its security and defense policies, nevertheless the facts on the ground belie the charge – as anyone with clear eyes can see.

Perhaps United Nations personnel should step out of their white cars once in a while, rather than simply drive through Arab villages, and up and down Highway 60 in the night. Were they to do so, the BDS movement would have a lot less traction.

Netanyahu Planning to Visit Pro-Israel Australia

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

The wheels have been set in motion for Binyamin Netanyahu become the first Prime Minister to visit Australia, the Australian reported Wednesday.

It said that his diary has been cleared for a week-long visit starting on July 14 in the capital of Canberra and then with business and community leaders in Melbourne and Sydney.

Israel and Australia are interested in promoting economic ties, especially in the areas of information and defense technology.

However, no final decision has yet been made on the trip, and plans could be upset by the constantly changing security situation in and around Israel.

Netanyahu has visited Australia as a diplomat and in 2001 opened Chabad Rabbi Joseph Gutnick’s new synagogue, a replica of Chabad headquarters in Brooklyn.. Kevin Rudd, when he was foreign minister  in 2012  invited Netanyahu  to visit, and the Prime Minister told the Australian in 2012, “In a world where Israel is vilified, castigated, where a beleaguered democracy is defending its very life against radical Islamist forces, we don’t always get credit. We don’t always get fair play. We feel that happens more often than not with Australia.”

Current Foreign minister Julie Bishop angered the Palestinian Authority by questioning claims that expanding Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria violates international laws.

Last year, Bishop told Austria’s representative in the United Nations to withdraw Australia’s support of a resolution for an order to stop ”all Israeli settlement activities in all of the occupied territories.” Joining only eight other countries who abstained in the lopsided anti-Israel vote. Six countries, including the United States and Canada, voted against the resolution.

Former Labor governments in Australia condemned a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria.

PA Websites Mock Kerry (Video)

Monday, March 17th, 2014

A YouTube video-song buy a Palestinian Authority singer has gone viral on Palestinian Authority websites and provides evidence that Mahmood Abbas has no intention of taking President Barack Obama seriously when they met today in the White House.

The video was posted this week as a statement of encouragement to Abbas and mocks the United States in general and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in particular. Whoever translated the YouTube couldn’t even get Kerry’s name right, spelling it “Kire.”

The 5-minute message sums up every demand of the Palestinian Authority and dumps on the Obama administration for pleasing the “Zionist interest.”

“Go tell Obama and America that my land is not a piece of cake for you to share,” croons the singer, but in the background is a PA of Israel that clearly is intended as Palestine, exposing the honest intentions of Abbas to eventually whittle Israel down to non-existence.

Listen up,” John Kire, sings songwriter Qassem Najjar, whose artistic propaganda was posted on Facebook sites and all over the Palestinian Authority website. Gatestone Institute contributor Khaled Abu Toameh wrote Monday that a senior Palestinian Authority official explained that the new song is “100% accurate and honestly sums up the whole Palestinian position toward peace.”

Speaking of peace, the video-song states, “In the name of martyrs, prisoners, home and revolution, Jerusalem is our free capital and will always be.”

The songwriter then blames Israel for spoiling this “dove of peace, “which undoubtedly will be emblazoned on Abbas’s shirt when he sits down with Obama.

As for Kerry’s “framework,” the lyrics say it is an “American plan for killing the Palestinian cause to please Zionist interest[s].”

It chides the United States for not following the vote of “the great Russia and China” for voting to recognize the Palestinian Authority as a new Arab country based on Abbas’ own definitions of borders.”

One popular Arab website, Al Watan Voices,” posted articles Monday encouraging Abbas to stand up to Obama.

If he doesn’t, Abbas might as well design and make his own coffin on the way back to Ramallah. One article in Al Watan stated that “brother Abbas,” who will meet President Barack Obama today in Washington, “is armed with a majority of the Palestinian people, and clearly announced his rejection Israel’s conditions of extreme dictations [of] America, and it was clear in his refusal to recognize the Jewish state, as well as the refusal of a request Israelis ignoring the right of return of refugees, or the survival of any force occupying the borders of a Palestinian state.”

The article noted that the real loser in Kerry’s Peace Talks Follies is none other than the United States of America, which it said “will record her next successive loss in the Middle East.”

Lieberman: Israel Won’t Agree to ‘Further Conditions’ for Talks

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman blamed the Palestinians for lack of progress in peace negotiations, and said Israel would not agree to additional conditions for the continuation of the talks.

“The Palestinians are the ones torpedoing the talks by setting conditions,” Lieberman told Israel Radio Thursday, according to the Times of Israel. “Israel would not agree to any further conditions for the continuation of talks.”

The statement comes in response to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ call for Israel to freeze West Bank settlement expansion in order for talks to continue.

The negotiations, which began last July, are nearing the nine-month deadline that Secretary of State John Kerry set at their start. Kerry hopes to persuade both sides to agree to a framework for ongoing negotiations that would extend beyond the original deadline. Recent reports indicate that significant gaps remain between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Lieberman is set to meet Kerry in Rome later in the day Thursday.

In Time for Obama Meeting, CBS Shows 123% Rise in Settlement Housing

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Hours before a scheduled meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Obama in Washington Monday, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics released the figures on Jewish housing starts in Judea and Samaria for 2013 and they show a stunning, 123% rise compared to the year before.

According to the CBS, work began on 2,534 new Judea and Samaria homes and apartments in 2013, compared to 1,133 in 2012. Of these, some 1,710 units were in apartment buildings in the larger Judea and Samaria settlements, and 824 were single-family homes in smaller settlements.

The same data shows a 19 percent drop in housing starts in the Tel Aviv area.

The total number of housing starts throughout Israel rose 3.4 percent in 2013 compared to 2012, according to the CBS.

Housing starts in Judea and Samaria have been lower since a 10-month freeze in building in Judea and Samaria settlements that began in November 2009, as part of the Netanyahu government’s capitulation to American pressure.

It took until 2013 for many new housing tenders to be issued for Judea and Samaria settlements, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Housing starts in Judea and Samaria comprise 5.7% of all the starts in Israel. In the south of Israel there was a 12% rise, in the Haifa region 8.1%, in Jerusalem 2.9%, and up north 1%.

The 19% drop in housing starts in Tel Aviv appears dramatic when juxtaposed with the rest of the country.

And now for a word from our friend at Peace Now Yariv Oppenheimer who issued a statement saying that at this rate of growth there’ll be no room left for a Palestinian State.

The other friendly NGO, the “Geneva Initiative,” faulted Netanyahu for creating a one-state solution through his action, and warned that in such a state the Jews would be in the minority.

No they won’t, just check birth rate figures for Jews (on the rise) and for Judea and Samaria Arabs (on the decline since 2005).

Some JTA content was used in this report, but we had to replace all the “west bank” references with the proper “Judea and Samaria.”
